Part of it, I attribute to how North America and Australia view cars as opposed to Asia and Europe. For North America and Australia, a car is a necessity for the majority in sprawled out cities and people buy cars based on what they need for everyday use. For the rest, a car is a luxury/ toy and people buy them based on what they want to feel/experience and afford.

Since 2019, I've had a 2018 Altima. I was not in the market for a car when I bought mine, plus I had mixed opinions on the CVT, but pulled the trigger and took my chances. Aside from routine maintenance, the Altima has not spent a single night in the service department. Mine is the Deep Blue Pearl SR, which illuminates in the sun or after washed. I've gone on countless road trips in it, and not only is it a competent, capable highway cruiser, it is very comfortable and handles well. Not to mention how efficient it is, I rarely fill up despite driving five to seven days a week.
All in all, I think the Altima is a highly underrated, unappreciated value in today's car market where every truck and crossover uses similar design language that lacks uniqueness.
Nissan is undecided on another generation of Altima, but I think they should give it another chance by introducing the proposed hybrids, especially considering that Nissan still sells a decent amount of these cars annually despite the overall decline in popularity of sedans.

The US government tricked its people into buying these vehicles for "safety" and "family" reasons. "Get an SUV because the gas mileage is the same as regular cars and you get extra room for your kids and stuff and you sit higher off the ground and blah, blah, blah." The average American thinks the same way and fell for the okie doke. This country is just full of sheep. Everyone isn't a family man. Everyone doesn't want a vehicle with a high center of gravity. And they all look the same. I laugh at the sheep when I'm driving thru a parking lot and all these damn SUV's are lined up looking like a real car lot. Everybody has to hit the panic button in the parking lots because they can't find their SUV in the sea of them. I see more SUV's on the side of the road during the winter because those sheep who fell for it still don't maintain the vehicle and think because I have AWD or 4WD, I'm invincible. @@tjhouston1280 young man. I feel your pain. But it's not because everybody wants SUVs nowadays. Is the cafe laws for emissions that persuade car companies to make three row vehicles, as they do not fall under the same emission regulations as a four-door sedan or a coupe. Myself I like a big high performance 4-door, not necessarily an SUV. But I tell you since everyone is driving SUVs now I feel like I need to get one too. Why you may ask ..? For privacy. Everyone in these SUVs is looking at me in my car. I think psychologically they feel like they can run on my bumper and zoom around me only because of the advantage that they have been able to see everything I'm doing in my car. Super large SUVs command a different level of response / respect when people can't see who and what you're doing they seem to behave different I think. It's a freaking shame. As a matter of fact I got to tell you people didn't used to drive like this on the road either. Everyone was in such a big rush....to get to the store.... For the freaking drive-thru at McDonald's. I hope you can find you a really nice coupe or a four-door sedan but that will please you somehow someday. I've been looking at those old Acura Legends lately. Find a way to bolt on a supercharger and get it up to 300 horsepower. Some of those big old sedans even come with a 5-speed manual. Blessings to you young man. 🤟❤️💪

You could see though other sedans and see who's braking and why 100 feet ahead of you. Now for sedan drivers our only vision is the SUV's brake lights in front of us. You can't see shIt you have to figure out quickly whether the SUV/Truck is braking softly, medium, or Hard in a spilt second it's like driving with a big wall in front of you all the time. Oh, and to make a right-hand turn in a sedan with SUVs and trucks next to you (your left side) THEY ARE ALWAYS PULLED UP OVER the line blocking you from seeing oncoming traffic they're not a sedan so you can't see over their hood they're twice as high. Toyota has great foresight because they are keeping their mainstream sedans because people will soon realize that getting groceries and chugging your family around is more efficient and safe in a sedan. Plus replacement VQs are super cheap for track cars. Like most Nissan engines they do need an oil pump gear upgrade for sustained track duty, which is a quick weekend fix and the water pump, timing chain, guides, and tensioner can be changed at the same time for peace of mind. Doing the "Pathfinder mode" really helps with keeping temps in check also.

In 2015, I bought a brand new 2014 Nissan Sentra off my local lot. It hadn't sold because it was a MT. I paid 15,900 for it after taxes. Personally, I am glad I bought the MT because I was automatically exempt from the terrible transmission issues that the Sentra's CVT transmissions from that particular era had. My Sentra didn't come without its issues though. The sensor on the passenger seat for the airbags were screwed. The airbags were on all the time. I did take it to Nissan because it was recalled for that. I don't think it worked. Also, all 4 of my window switches quit working. I didn't drive my car that much so it was absolutely ridiculous that none of my windows would roll down after 3 years of ownership. Nissan wanted 400+ bucks per window switch to fix them. I pulled them from another Sentra in the junkyard and installed them myself. In 2020, when I nearly had the car paid off, a tow truck made an illegal u turn while I was on his left and totaled my car. I was paid out 9800 bucks for it, because I only had 18k miles on it at the time of the crash. Honestly, I was glad to be rid of the car after. I was going to sign the title over to my dad who co-signed with me on it and go buy a Toyota. I thought Nissans were nice cars until I had that Sentra. Such a shame.

B17 Sentra owner here. Mine's a 2014, six-speed, base model. Had it for three years and been trouble free for the most part. Just need to figure out what caused my fuel economy to tank recently. I once got up to 315 miles per tank, but now getting about 280.

Everything talk about Altima drivers, but most of the idiot drivers drive other brands.

I’m a employee of the largest rental company in the country and we have thousands of Altimas and Sentras in our fleet and people love them because of their phenomenal fuel economy and comfortable ride, after working for my company several years I bought a brand new 2019 Altima SV and it’s been one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. I’m averaging 37.3 miles per gallon and have driven as far as 590 miles on one tank of gas from Little Rock Arkansas to Atlanta Georgia. The transmission hasn’t given me any problems because I serviced it near 45,000 miles and changed the fluid. A CVT Is not meant for drag racing it’s made for fuel economy

Conspiracy theory: They are canceling the Altima because of the reputation/meme. We have them at my work, they are much faster than the Camry or Accord.

I've always hated sedans, because trunks are not practical. I only drive hatchbacks, and the rear seat stays folded down at all times

Last time I was in a Sentra the seats were rock hard. This was like 2015.

I remember when the Nissan Sentra debuted here in the US in 1982, and originally it was the Datsun Nissan Sentra and then by 1984 the Datsun name was gone and it was just Nissan. The Nissan Altima debuted in 1993 to replace the Nissan Stanza which I grew up in the 80s, I remember the Stanza. I always loved the Altima from 2005 til now.

    1. Manufacturers should stop bloating up all the cars. I am about to upgrade to a Camry/Accord/Altima until I found out they have grown beyond the size of my parking spot. And Corolla/Civic/Sentra have increased size and weight without increasing thrust. AWD, and higher class NVH.

i love my 2017 altima. Its sad to see nissan discontinue it. I do understand they wanted to focus on their suv and pickup lineups

I’m a boomer, the original Altima, and Maxima were brilliant and extremely reliable, but after the French took over Nissan’s reputation took a dive.

The Versa was the last car in the US to offer a 5-speed manual. 😢 I’m tempted to go buy one before it’s gone.

I rent many vehicles. The best one I’ve ever rented was a 2024 Altima SR in NYC. I drove it all over New England for a week.

The only thing I like about Altima is the 18month lease program and the vc turbo engine that allows you to put 93 or 87

market is moving towards efficiency, not hard to imagine when the whole car industry ends up having only one or two makers and only a handful of models for the entire world.
