    The primary airport for upstate SC is the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) which is located just off of I-85 near Greer between Greenville and Spartanburg. This airport was built jointly by the cities of Greenville and Spartanburg in the early 1960’s at the advent of jet air travel, as the older airports in both cities could not accommodate large jets. GSP was the first airport to have lighting installed in the pavement of the runway.

    Visited Greenville for retirement, was too congested for me. Huntsville is on my list to check out and seems to me it looks more affordable especially if we move to the outskirts.

      I'm glad to see you're checking places out before making a decision. Huntsville is very affordable compared to many areas around the country, and even moreso when you get outside the city and closest suburbs. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. Feel free to reach out with any questions, and let me know if you decide to visit.

    Some of your info on Greenville is inaccurate. The main airport GSP international is in Greer. The outskirts of Greenville. The airport that is in the city is for corporate private planes. Gville population metro wise is almost double Huntsville. In short, Gville offers more culture diversity metro vibe in a southern setting. Huntsville is a more laid back southern town with less amenities.

      Thank you for correcting me about the airports. I covered the difference in population density, although not as succinctly as you did in your comment. I agree the videos are different, especially when considering the downtown area in each city. Huntsville has several smaller "city center" type areas with their own vibes.

      Man, if you visit Huntsville during Hockey season we have to go to a game. I can't speak for the teams, but the Havoc fans are the most diehard fans of any sports team I have ever seen. They are into the game from the moment the announcer starts calling the roster to the last buzzer. It's a great experience, and relatively cheap compared to just about any other sporting event.

      No it doesn’t they don’t add Decatur Alabama for idk what reason to the metro but if they did the Huntsville-Decatur-Albertville metro area is right at a million people and Huntsville is building thousands of structures by the year. I mean 50 apartment complex’s in a year more than Atlanta and Houston in growth! Numbers don’t lie it’s tht much smaller if a city compared to those and yet literally outgrowing them on just about every category! It’s got the same land coverage within the city limits as Chicago Huntsville just isn’t as dense. The city refuses to be like Atlanta a giant metro and small city area. It’s trying to become as spread out as Nashville or Memphis. Huntsville doesn’t want to be clustered it wants to cover all the land it seems like till it can’t anymore. Also a new establishment opens every week literally if not 5. Huntsville is covering ground extremely fast and soon it’ll be to late and people will be scratching there heads wondering how it got so large. Google maps is a obvious sign or apple maps you can see how spread out it is Decatur should be added to metro and more than likely will and then it’ll jump up to a million within a year or so drastically and confuse people when it’s been that populated before the change it’s all misleading Huntsville is basically Birmingham size rn they add Alot of towns tht shouldn’t be in Birminghams metro like cullman county and cullman city for example I guarantee more people in cullman work in Huntsville area than Birmingham.

      @@Spaceman88884 if we go by city population alone then charlotte and Jacksonville will be larger than Atlanta, 6000000 million metropolitan to is less than 500000 people in the city, and we all know that not the case. I live in Greenville it densely small, the county is huge population less than 600000 people. City is 75000. I been to Huntsville I see similar just more spreader out. If it was densed then I would agree. As for the 1.5 million people that is the combined metropolitan population not the statistic metro population which is 970000, Greenville. Overall both urban population areas are about the same
      Both midsized cities are excellent comparisons to each other.

  • @chrysr7773
    @chrysr7773 Před 5 měsíci +3

    When you speak of almost any city, I think it is better to look at the "Greeneville metro area" or "Huntsville Metro Area" population numbers instead of just the city limits. The City Limit never tells the real story of any city these days.
    I just googled Huntsville metro population 5I4K and Greenville metro population 928K.
    Also, the lakes around Greenville are Hartwell, Keowee, and Jocassee and all three are pretty large and they have bass fishing tournaments every year. That does not include three other small lakes in and around Greenville. Your comparisons sound weighted towards Huntsville.

    Good video. Id disagree with housing costs. While Greenville is more expensive to buy in good areas, it has cheaper rents. Huntsville is less to buy but higher rents....only considering good areas of both.

    • @CameronWalkerRealty
      @CameronWalkerRealty  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for watching, and for the feedback. I used a variety of websites to average the rent in both cities. Of course, I'm more familiar with Huntsville, so I have more confidence in those numbers. The average rent in Greenville is $1,429 for a 962 SQ ft apartment, and in Huntsville it's $1,195 for a 943 SQ ft apartment. Either of those could be screwed by outliers though.

      Greenville doesn’t have cheaper rent. Greenville’s average rent for a 1 bedroom is around $1400 and it’s rising. With BMW expanding all over the place, rents and housing prices are rising. Even in the neighboring counties such as Spartanburg, 1 bedrooms are going for $1150- $1200.

      Hey MJ, good to hear from you. We just put the finishing touches on an Active Adult Community Tour video. It will be coming out this week. We don't have anything in this area like a Dell Web, but we do have a few 55+ communities. The Active Adult, Retirement and Soon to Retire community will be a big focus for me this year. I'm currently putting together a video and blog on the tax advantages of retiring in Alabama, and I will be doing another video about Active Adult communities throughout the Huntsville area. Keep an eye out this week for the new video!

      @@mjpottertx You're welcome. I haven't been to one of their communities in several years. We had one nearby when I lived in Virginia, so I checked it out a few times. I have family who live in Robson Ranch in Denton which is a massive 55+ community. They have been there for a quite a while, and have enjoyed it, but they are also looking to move to the Huntsville area. Between my retired family members, and about 50% of my clients being recently retired or soon to retire, my future videos will focus more heavily on retirement living in the Huntsville area. We lack the amenity filled communities tailored to the 55+ crowd like Robson Ranch, but we're a far better fit for the truly active adult crowd that doesn't want to live within a compound. I want to get those details right, and answer the questions most people have, so feel free to let me know if there are specific topics you want to know more about. Housing costs, general cost of living for seniors, tax breaks, active adult activities, senior friendly communities, and healthcare are the broad topics that come to mind for me. I'm also working on some blogs that go into more details, and have more links so people can continue their research. I'll start referencing those blogs in future videos as well.

When several people are in similar situations within a short period of time then I usually try to make a video about it. @@Voyagephotographyplease read your own comment. It's the two different demographics part that's off. I meet with people day in and day out about moving to Huntsville, and sometimes they also consider other areas. The fact is that Greenville comes up more than any other city when potential clients are weighing their options.
      You, on the other hand don't meet with people day in and day out about moving to Huntsville, and despite that you keep commenting and replying based on your preconceived notion that no one would consider both cities as candidates for their move.
      Based on each of our backgrounds, professions, and experience who is more likely to be right in this situation? The odds so heavily favor me being correct that it should have given you some pause after I replied to your initial comment.
      Rather than take a critical look at the situation you make sophomoric arguments, and lob little insults along the way. First you implied that I just made the video to be a CZcamsr, and now it's your dismissive comment about mind tricks.
      Just admit when you are wrong and move on. You can see where I did the same in the comment section on this video. Another viewer let me know the airport in Greenville is an executive airport, and I thanked them for correcting me.
      I don't mind being corrected; it's how we grow and get better. However, I'm not the kind of person to just roll rover because someone on the internet disagrees with me.
      The time I spend on researching, recording, and editing videos only has economic value to me if my videos are informative to my, admittedly small, audience. I make my living by assisting people who move to Huntsville, not off the hundreds of views on any of my videos. Even assuming I monetized my channel (I haven't), I would probably make somewhere between $.20 and $.50 per month based on my channel's views.
      I have the professional experience to back my statements, and the economic incentive to make it worth my while to make those statements. You have neither.

      I actually think they’re quite similar. Also people make plenty of videos comparing living in Houston, TX vs Atlanta, Ga or New York vs Los Angeles. New York and Los Angeles are 3000 miles apart. I’m not quite understanding your point.
