  • My Sunless Skies Retrospective: • A Sunless Skies Retros...
Sunless Sea was developed by Failbetter Games in 2015 for the PC. I'm a huge fan of it and enjoy long-form gaming critiques/reviews, and so I thought I'd have a go at making a video of my own.
    Cheers for watchin

First video? Are you kidding me? What a great first attempt. I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos and enjoying all of them. You’ve got my sub, and I’m excited to see what you put out in the future.

Haha, thanks man. This vid was literally my first attempt ever at writing about games, recording, and even editing, and so it's a little rough around the edges, but still a pretty fun vid I think.

Such a lovely retrospective! As someone who had been playing the game for the past five years and has hundreds of hours in it, I absolutely agree that its world and atmosphere remain unparalleled. Very few games before and since it had hit that sweet spot that SS does. And while I love Skies for different reason, I always return to Seas, just so I can experience certain storylines again (Except Traveller Returning. Because that one is just...too good. I am afraid of playing it again because I don't want to ruin it for myself). And not only storylines, but locations themselves. To this day, Irem remains my single favourite location in all Failbetter games. And whenever I find myself in far East, I spend few minutes just idling at the dock and soaking in the atmosphere.
My rambling aside, it's great to see another retrospective on my favourite game of all time. Now, onto your Skies video! Oh and I already subbed! Keep up a good work!

Thanks you so much for your thoughts and support!
This was the game that even got me into making videos in the first place. I'd never even thought about starting a channel like this, but I got into Sunless Sea so much that I just wanted to create something in tribute to it! It literally is my all-time favorite game and like you, I always find myself returning back to it for that special atmosphere and the uniquely compelling writing. I love Sunless Skies too, but this game will always be number 1 for me!

Awesome retrospective man, I've had the same relationship w/ Sunless Seas.
Would you ever consider taking on Sunless Skies?

Thanks very much dude. And yeah, funnily enough I'm likely going to start work on a Sunless Skies vid today cos I really love that game too, so expect that retrospective too in a couple of weeks!

My biggest hesitation with the game is how unforgiving passing on to the next generation is. even if you go through the work of securing an heir, you still start almost from scratch each time unless you put tons of prep work in. A mod which improves that aspect would go a long way to letting me enjoy the game and take more risks.

Too much reading. And I like crags like planescape that have a lot of reading. Sunless sea was a bit shite
