    I do have to point out, that during the 1st world war and before, solders never saw sovereigns, indeed the reason most of the sovereigns in top grade you show, were in bags in bank vaults and never circulated. The same as many of American Morgan dollars. The same for Australia and Canada gold sovereigns. The only gold coins that working people ever saw were half sovereigns. If you had a really good job in those days, you might be lucky and get a sovereign, but they were never able to keep them as it was a full weeks wages, and they had to pay rent and food etc. I knew an old lady who died in the 70s her name was MRS strange, she worked in a bank, just before the 1st wold war as a bank cashier. She saved very hard, and managed to save a sovereign with a months pay. It was a 1913 London mint, nothing special but that just shows how the sovereign had such high value. She died at 92, and told me many things about how many people heard of Sovereigns, but never saw them. People have no idea, what the old days were like, and people take so much for granted these days.

    Instead of giggling like a little girl as you’re handling all these Sovereigns, your voice is calm and composed. HOW? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! 👍

    I reached the end and was wishing for more. All of my sovereigns from 1909 up are MS and include 1911C, 1917C, 1918I and 1919C. It's a real treat to see so many Edward and Victoria sovereigns in MS. My earliest sovereign is 1833 and there are many YH's and shields but none better than XF. They have always been my favourite gold along with the short lived Canadian five and ten dollars series. For modern gold, the US Buffalo coins are up there as well.

    Another great video. Beautiful coins. I wish the collector all the best when they are graded. The updated Gold Sovereign book is excellent and highly recommended. It has many new entries, with just a few documented sovereigns missing (1837 tailed 8, 1957 specimen, 1974 proof).

      Robertw, you can better take George than Edward. Only the Canadian Edwards are scarcer then the others; very many Edwards are struck. George has many more scarce and rare coins. The Marsh book is a very good gide to begin with.

      Hi J Silver, Numistacker does put on a good show. Canadian sovereigns almost never show up at the shop, but we do see nice Canadian $5 and $10 coins. Right now we have an ICCS graded AU55 1912 $5, which looks better than that. Thanks to the hoard, they are available, but I suspect they will gradually disappear with time.

    Oh Numi,
    I think it's so sad that this wonderful collection is being sent to the amateurs at NGC.
    The people who can't spell piedfort. The people who can't tell the difference between proof and brilliant uncirculated or matte proof.
    The people who are going to charge this collector £12 for him identifying the special varieties. What this collection needs, and would probably cost less, is a beautiful bespoke wooden display case with labels. Not horrible plastic slabs with ignorant descriptions. Sorry to be an NGC hater but I've seen nothing to convert me, and frankly I'm quite horrified by how many people seem to be sending you coins to be slabbed.
    Beautiful, beautiful coins though.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  Před 6 lety

      +AG Smith thanks for the opinion. The coins are beautiful and I'm sure there will be many left I slabbed for you to buy )) it's not my job thankfully to convert anyone just a personal choice and preference of mine.

    Yes that book Is a must have considering Im wanting to learn more before I buy. But finding it to buy is as rare as the most prized coins it likely features in Australia. I can get plenty of used older versions but for someone wanting to buy now that would be silly, prices havaardinge surely changed & coins added or changed in valuations as time goes by.
    I commented previously regarding some random Gold sovereigns that were used not graded & asking approx AUD $750 each...and my dislike to the hard plastic sealed graded packaging coins of value are purchased. I understand why with grade # protection etc....but locked in ugly cheap plastic packages after spending alot of money looses the coins full appreciation. Look but dont touch...I see them presented in accessible velvet boxes with authenticity....but how do you know the real deal hasnt been swapped by some low life thief..
