Looking back are you happy with this strategy of buying one or two very rare coins? They are beautiful and much nicer to look at than standard modern coins. Have they increased in value more than bullion? Hard to tell I suppose without knowing their value today.

I never called them florins when I spent them in the 60s but two bob. And I never ever heard anyone call them florins in my day.

I would love the 1839 Proof sovereign. No budget for that. That would be absolutely gorgeous. Nice to see those slabs inside a bit of polythene so they don't scratch the slab.

Met Steve a few times in 2003 and 2004, along with Bruce Lorich, who was over from the States. Steve worked for Spink then, already an expert of course 20 years ago and totally embedded in the world of coins!

It's a shame that a sigma machine doesn't tell you your coins have been swapped when you send them for grading. There's too much of that going on these days.

Having smaller stars on the headband would have been a better artistic choice since it obviously bothers a lot of people. However, I personally like the stars. Not only is it a bold choice but gives the coin a more art deco aesthetic.

You can also easily get 1920 Threepences that are still sterling silver, they have a whiter yellowish look that the gungy green most worn 50% coins have. There is rumours some 1920 6ds may also be sterling. Given they were low face values, the mistakes were less lamented. Whereas all Shillings, Florins and Halfcrowns dated 1920 are known to be half silver ones.

For Florins, most common dates in stacks - 1921, 1922, 1942, 1944 and never seen 1924,25,32,37 and 38. First 3 are rarer dates, but 37 and 38 are less common, but not rare. Halfcrowns always 1921, 22, 40, 42 and 44. Finally 1929 is a good year you see a lot of - but for some reason EF/AU 1929 coins seem to be very common. Rare ones for Halfcrowns are 1924, 25, 26, 30, 34 and for GVI - 1938.

92.5% silver, not 90%. I have a decent stack of 50% Florins and Halfcrowns and a few of the Sterling coins. In all I have around 3kg of stacking silver coins in addition to my "A" collections - date runs. Most of the coins are British, Australia and NZ 50% and 92.5%. I also have a kg or so of American 90% silver, mostly Mercury dimes and around 20 walker halves. Also some Canadian quarters and 80 x New Guinean 1/- holed coins and finally a pound or so of mixed world including Switzerland and France.
