Just left a DEVO concert and saw this once I got in my car, best night ever
It’s meant to be!
WOAH I didn't expect this! I love Devo and all of the music Mark's made for TV, cartoons, movies and video games. I just noticed recently that the music from a lot of my favorite games and cartoons were made fully (or in part) by him. Even the Super Mario World cartoon opening theme, if any one remembers that.
I asked and you guys listened. I'm sure I'm not the only one that asked, but thank you for inviting Mark on. I've got an uncontrollable urge to listen to this podcast.
let us know any other suggestions :)
How about Gibby Haynes?
@@juniperbordeaux5988I second that - either of Gibby or Paul Leary would make for a fantastic conversation.
It always blows my mind how many great stories Mark has
Just read the title and I KNOW Tony is going to be stoked this whole episode for sure
As a skater, devo fan and postcard collector this was great.
yesssss so glad :)
Word. I saw Devo Sunday night and I was thinking about being excited to send Mark Mothersbaugh’s postcards to my friends that joined me for the show. The show was so great, this is so great, you’re so great ⚡️✨
It’s hard to even explain how influential and rad Devo is and was. If I’m skating I’m probably listening to Devo.
💯
@@HawkvsWolfare you not Tony Hawk?!
I got to perform in Mark and Tony's musical workshop - one of the most fulfilling experiences ever. Great episode!
this feels special. bob dobbs would be proud.
Another great episode with 3 legends
Thanks for watching!
Guys your turning the best podcast around!
Awesome 👍😎
I am going to be tired as hell tomorrow, great interview
Hell yeah! More musicians!
Definitely!
Gotta have a Devo rep for sure. Love it!
Thank You again! Been a fan of DEVO since i saw them on SNL - was already skating then. Loved during the Secret Agent Man phase. The Freedom of Choice video blew my mind - and got to see them in a small NJ THEATRE on New Traditionalists - 82/83 - Ohio Spudboy for life. So bummed to have missed ny when covid cancelled the show
A great podcast. Thank you. My first board was a Logan Earth Ski. Are we not men, Duty now, and Freedom of Choice were our anthems.
Thanks for watching!
def never recorded myself playing the rugrats theme on piano when i was a kid to send it to this guy
Holy Crap! Tony getting to chat with Mark would be like Me getting to chat with Tony Hawk. all I ever wanted from ‘86 to ‘90 was for Hawk to marry my sister…she put zero effort into it & I’ll never forgive her.
😂😂
YES!!! This podcast ruled!!!
🔥
Bottle rocket is secret gem for sure! Killer interview
Mark is awesome.
Great interview!!!
Got me so nostalgic with his music, especially in the video game sections. OG Crash Bandicoot on the PS1. This man is my shape of childhood !!
This was up there with the early gems🔥
I love Devo and all of Mark's work, even when I didn't know it was Mark's work. Hearing him talk, you can better understand the wit and wildness behind Devo. Nobody has ever read "Gravity’s Rainbow." Not even the author. It makes no sense. To grab inspiration from it takes inherent intelligence, creativity, and some seriously flexible thinking.
Music sounding like Captain Beefheart and some 60s Italian sci fi movie that got early Devo kicked off of stages is music I'd like to hear.
Richard Branson as a brain-eating ape is a fun take. Above all, Mark is so talented. Another great podcast. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hell yeah. Favorite episode yet. And I officially feel ancient, but in a proud old punk way. I learned about DEVO in fourth grade, my friend Issac had two cool older brothers, he told me all about them before I ever got to hear them. He wound up owning his own record store Jackpot Records in my hometown. Record stores were heaven growing up during the kill the weirdo 8Os. Thanks guys!
A Working In The Coal Mine 2:47
AA Working In The Coal Mine 2:47 One side is recorded in stereo, the other side is recorded in mono.
Mentioned Josh Freese...no greater rock drummer on earth. Played on over 500 albums and now drums for The Foos.
Give me a break. This isn't about how great Josh is as a drummer. Its about how badass Mr. Mothersbaugh is.
I dunno about the best **rock** drummer ever, but man, Freese is a legend... and I don't think it's even a question that he's the best **session** drummer of the last thirty years, if not longer.
Thank you for another awesome video. 😊 Waching Tony and Jason just being buddies is a great way to start the week with or without guests.
Please keep sharing, you are highly appreciated. 😃🫡
some new episodes with just them two would be rad!!
sprinkle them in hawkwolf
whip it 😂❤
Thanks for watching - so glad you like the show :)
Giving both of you the cred and flowers you deserve without sounding at some level of kissass are to say at least a challenge.
To be specific about HawkvsWolf podshow, I've followed from your first episode and can only say thank you for keeping a part on "normal" CZcams for those of us who don't have patrion. ✊️👍 As a member of the gray beard company it is awesome to hear about your new perspective on next goals. Even though some tricks are done the machine are still up to new experiences.
I'm here for Macula Dog
YOU GUYS WERENT KIDDING!! haha I love DEVO, my dad and I have matching shirts
Thanks so much y’all!
Here come the comets are amazing. Nice shout-out. Guitarist played with Rob Dickinson (Catherine Wheel) and almost took over James Iha spot in the Smashing Pumpkins.
Holy cannoli ! Freedom of choice in the house hawkwolfers! First skating in a music video I ever saw. All around same time it was the movie foxes, some kinda after school special surf movie with a very young CAB, and Devo's freedom of choice! Wasn't Jay Smith in that video? Was it filmed in Reseda? Ok ok I'm gonna listen now- maybe he mentions? Stoooooked!
Fired up that freedom of choice again: dayum! Alva, Peralta, who are the other skaters?
I believe Andrect (spelling.?)
Monday's can be rough, a little better now for sure. Thank you!
Dude! How are there not more people watching an episode like this?
John Lydon's "security" was a guy called John Rambo, his best friend from childhood. Rambo was no joke man especially if he thought you were disrespecting John. Saw them in October just before Rambo passed away. He was on stage keeping an eye out and dancing the entire gig. Legend.
I'm almost as old as Mark. When I first heard Devo's Satisfaction on the radio (WXRT Chicago) in the '70's I did not catch the name of the artist. I was sure that it was Joan Armatrading doing a Stones cover. Then I heard it again and found out it was Devo, and they like me were from the rust belt. If I had to pick an all time favorite band it would be Devo. I saw them live twice The New Traditionalists tour at the Aragon in Chicago. Devo were on treadmills and everyone in the crowd were jumping up and down on folding chairs. I remember Bob1 climbing on top of the stack of amps and almost falling off. Then I saw Oh No I't's Devo tour in Merrillville Ind, couldn't be a more perfect place to hear booji boy sing Beautiful Word then that.👽🐇🕳
Tony is fanning out. I love it. Tony is the man.
Thank you for asking that final question, Tony Hawk. I'm inspired. Pocket post card art salutations to a pre-tiktok realm that you can touch, feel & collaborate through.
Yeeeeees, I've been waiting for this one!
Ps. Nice socks, Mark! 💚
Thanks for watching!
@@HawkvsWolfalways! Your podcast instantly goes to the top of my watch list every time it comes out 💚
The band he is referring to is called “The Comet is Coming”
Took me a minute to figure it out! Lol
Oddly there is a band Here Come the Comets, but nothing like Mark described! Yes, The Comet is Coming. I'm pretty sure they didn't throw instruments around though.
Thank you!
Aha! I found a band called "Here Come The Comets" and they didn't sound like what Mark described. That lead me to "Here Comes The Comet", which it turns out is a song title by a band called Tele Music (and a damn good tune). I'm listening to The Comet Is Coming right now..... OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes!!! Thanks guys!
Thanks for watching!
Still remember my first Devo album. Smooth Noodle Maps 🤘🏻
Wondering if he meant The Comet is Coming at 1:03:26? Searching "Here Come the Comets" also brings up results but none that sound like trippy jazz...
I'm sure that is who he meant.
Still waiting for tony to get in the ice bath
Devo is the best skate music!! Thank you for creating such a great sound!!
Devo is the best!
@@HawkvsWolf yes indeed! Love Devo and I love your podcast! Thank you guys!
Tony is so cute trying to school Jason
Like a puppy, “see that see that.. you need to recognize that..”
Alternative music and Skating go hand in hand.
Ellis makes laugh so much on these podcast’s
Wow, you guys go hard on the ads
That was a fantastic interview, but odd that the Freedom of Choice video was never talked about!
Loved Mark's work without ever knowing Devo or who he was... He wrote the soundtracks of my childhood. Truly a Great.
Jason that pastry life gets OLD...fun for a while though not gonna lie😂
The devo video of freedom 0f choice was so huge when it came out canyon jumps ,i was blown away

The song on Heavy Metal that devo is playing is ,Through Being Cool
Hey, Tony, what about Steve Olsen on your show?? Or salba
Tony's look when Mark says "his DNA is all over it" 🤣
Nerds unite. Devo and being creative for the sake of it is the best thing after sliced bread
Hey Mark, its not how many people you touch, its the way you touch them.
All praise Bob, all praise the slack! ❤❤❤
We are Devo
Blaze it
The Comet is Coming!
We're through being cool.
Was hoping to finish the interview but seem this had way more ads than usual
It’s Booji Boy!!!!!!
I guess Rune Glifberg is never coming on his show?
😊
How odd, this episode is really jam packed with ads
DEVO does not get enough respect
i'm wearing my energy doom right now
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍
great podcast. Can you please ad timestamps so we can forward the ads? God, so many ads...
Great suggestion - yes definitely will do that
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I wanna see you guys camp now lol
DEVO
Anyone know how i can get an copy of Birdhouse Untitled??
25:46 BODY
Can someone PLEASE tell me why a bloody video of TONY HAWK in the same room as MARK MOTHERSBAUGH only has 22k views??
"PistachiOW"
It seems like Jason and Tony want to hear themselves talk more than their guest.
Random skate name your havent heard in a while.
I'll start,
Uuuhhhhhh
Colt Cannon.
Anyone and everyone leave a name that comes to mind.
Tony get johnny on the show if he can!!!!
Planet Earth is on the b-side
But..i still wish there was a Devo and Johnny Rotten song...would be fun to hear...
😂
Would love if Taylor Swift wore DEVO merch in the near future

Are we not human?
are we not men? ❤
D-E-V-O
Unwatchable with the amount ads between CZcams and Hawk
