    Those find are not just for appearances....by making contact with the cylinders they absorb the the heat and help to further cool the engine....so basically the engine is both liquid and air cooled.

    Cool video. Father son rebuild? I just bought an 03 shadow spirit 750 and I was curious about the valve train thanks for the video. Now I know it's just like any other Honda car engine I've done D series B series. I will do a valve adjustment at some point in its life

    I have a question…
    2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 750
    It starts up fine, runs okay but after it warms up a bit at idle it’s blowing out VERY light smoke from the rear tail pipe or somewhere behind the base of the pipe where it connects to the engine, possibly somewhere behind it where I can’t see it but also out of the rear exhaust only… If I pop the throttle at a stop light or idle I get a big plume of smoke, then it stops until I come to another stop light or if it’s idling and I pop the throttle I get plumes but it’s not smoking going down the road. I’m wondering if you might be able to steer me in the direction of the fix… I’m a classic car mechanic but I’ve never done a motorcycle engine, I just don’t want to blindly aim for a fix that could’ve been easier. Thank you in advance, if you have any questions feel free to respond here…

    Curious, what was the reason for the teardown?

    • @MichaelWittner
      @MichaelWittner  Před rokem +1

      the bike was sitting out side with the spark plugs out so it was seized up

    you mentioned the pistons being seized, that being the case, how did you manage to get the cam chains un done to get the jugs off? ive got 2 motors now... one with a cracked crank case and one with a locked up engine and i cant get to the cam gear bolts....

      @MichaelWittner  Před 3 lety

      yea we tapped it a little to free it up but still removed the jugs we still haven't returned to this project, my son has a problem with completing projects sorry if it were mine there would have been a update already

    So Im new to motorcycle motors and have no idea what I’m doing as far as rebuilding them. I know it’s a lot to ask but is there any way you could do a video of a full rebuild? I have to pull the heads to put new pistons in but I’m not sure how to do timing on these. I’ve rebuilt a couple motors in the past but not any motorcycles.

      sorry this project isn't finishing anytime soon. best thing you can do is find a rebuild book for the motor they can be pricey but well worth the money spent, they will give you detailed instructions for any timing marks or torque values you will need and usually any special instructions for installing certain parts
