- "The Arabic", performed by John Doyle (www.johndoylemusic.com) in concert at the Institute of Musical Traditions (www.imtfolk.org), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA on November 16, 2011.
John Doyle is renowned as one of the most talented guitarists performing in either the Irish or Appalachian traditions. As an accompanist, he adapts to and compliments the style of those he plays with, but his rhythmic and melodic contributions do much more than simply provide a background, creating complex, fascinating layers within the tunes without ever overshadowing the principal performer. Fans who have seen John Doyle perform as a band member or accompanist have also been treated to his solo guitar work, his wonderful, lyrical singing and, more recently, his dynamic fiddling.

John and his guitar magic as usual
I saw him perform this amazing song two nights ago on a guitar-shaped instrument that was either a bouzouki or a mandola, and let me tell you, dear reader, that he moved everyone in that room with a spine-tingling performance.
I must have listened to every version of this. Several times each.
Every time I hear this it gets better. He's such an awesome musician.
He shreds like Buckethead, but doesn't use a bucket, only a tassel. Massive Irish talent on full display.
Why do I always have tears in my eyes listening that ....?
Yep
This song is brilliant in every respect.
Extroadinary!
Me too! It's called profundity!
such a skilled musician
Simply Great....
Such a great song and rendition!
Merci et Bravo !
It's a Type of C tuning. It's fairly savage.
Superb. Unstoppably interesting guitar performance, lovely singing. Will be purchasing soon, and cruising the imtfolk clips. Thanks. Any more suggestions anyone?
It is CFCGCD I think.
I believe it's DADGAD tuning maybe with capo on fret1
he's almost always in Drop D tuning
what guitar is that? and how does he get that rhythmic high end sound?
