  • On the 20th Jan 2024 I uploaded a video discussing the possibility that Liam & Squire's song 'Just Another Rainbow' was actually written about former Stone Roses front man, Ian Brown (watch here: • Did JOHN SQUIRE Write ... ). In an obscure interview in another language in March... Liam & Squire actually responded to that theory!

I think you're reading too much into Liam's "Lucifer" comment. All he's saying is that since the 60s people have played records backwards and think they can hear all sorts of occult and other esoteric things.

Fair comment. Ian Brown’s solo discography stands up well in most company, in my opinion. He’s a good collaborator and doesn’t try to dominate the whole thing. Loads of creative influences are apparent from those he worked with in each solo album.
John meanwhile seemed to have fallen out of love with the music scene and was deeply into his painting, which has been a constant for him forever.

    • @nathanadler6991

@@GT380man True, Brown always had a slightly wider musical pallette - though I argue he was getting diminishing returns from it because, as you say, he has a larger discography. Always hard to get a read on whether John's heart is in it (his media appearances and live performance are a little subdued) still though, for better or worse, their album delivered exactly what I was expecting (... I wasn't expecting a better album than Revolver).

Ian Brown had a much wider musical palette. That’s what started the gradual break up of the Roses in the early 90’s.
His solo career, especially ‘98 - ‘05, was a great achievement, he’d been written off and not expected to be seen again in music, and came back with several albums containing very original, quality innovative music.
It eclipsed The Seahorses, which were ultimately not even as good as lesser mid 90’s bands like Shed Seven, Cast etc.

Diversity mate… neurodiversity… we are all neurodiverse, part of that diversity, and the ‘sados’ that see things, hear things, think things, learn things and communicate things differently, they’re just atypical - not sad. They also _enjoy_ things differently. This diversity makes us stronger because not everyone is looking in the same direction, missing things happening behind or off to the side.

There was a big noise in the US in the 80s about British heavy metal acts like Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest having hidden messages in songs, especially after two kids committed suicide after supposedly listening to messages in Judas Priest songs and the band eventually had to clear their name in court. That's possibly what Liam might have been referencing.

I’m not blown away by it, but on each play I like it more and more. Just Another Rainbow grabbed me instantly when I heard it. Basically it’s a step in the right direction for both of them and Liam is smashing it right now IMO and although I’ve never been a follower of John Squire’s music, he’s a bloody good guitarist and this album oozes 60s rock/90s indie.
These are exciting times right now for those of us who were there in the 90s with Oasis. I think Noel’s last album was a winner and apparently he’s ditching the acoustic album next and going for rock again. Happy times!

The "Zip It Penfold" comment made me laugh because there's a bit of a Roses link. Back in the late 90's there was a guy on Roses internet message groups called Burnweed who wrote chapters of stuff about there being a conspiracy that the Roses wrote the Morning Glory album. There was loads of other stuff but he genuinely seemed to believe the Roses were sending out messages for him to pick up. There was a Select Magazine cover in December1995 that had the Roses on and there was a speech bubble above Mani's head which said "Zip it Weedbrain!" which this Burnweed guy interpreted as a message to him to stop spreading the stories. If you manage to find it on the internet it was called OneLoveStory and it's written like Bible passages. Really mad stuff but he had theories for loads of Oasis and Roses events. :D

Since liam was or still is a believer of god maybe has deciphered that lucifer once the perfect angel of God himself is the founder of music itself also referring to the planet saturn since in numerology is the 8th planet.

I think perhaps, Liam is more astute than he is given credit for. By your own admittance James, you have actually been trained to hear Lucifer, in your younger years.

I just thought just another average as fuck song, album it’s not a great album,at best it’s good and I thought when I heard that this album was coming out.
I was buzzing I thought The Seahorses it’s coming around again.
As soon as I heard the start of Just another rainbow I instantly knew what we were in for and in that respect they didn’t disappoint, there’s no need for another album surely 😢

I'm just glad that John Squire's back playing and releasing music. He's TOO good to be just an artist. Best lead guitarist in the past 40 years, easily imo. Hope the 2nd album has more of his usual style of playing 🙏🍋🍋🌊🐴
Another interesting vid James, enjoyed it. Gets u thinking, don't know if there's much in the Ian brown thing 🤔 but i think u could be right about the bored with the screens thing and getting out more tho.

  • @samstager6456

    Your theory remains convincing.
John may not be ready to affirm it while the album is in the spotlight. Songwriters enjoy some level of mystique that allows them to write personal material (including digs at other public figures).

Are Squire and Brown even on bad terms now? The Roses might be over but the final gig ended with them hugging, there didn’t seem to be any animosity.

If you read an interview Squire did in 2019 about his art, and one about a month ago, both with The Guardian and both free to read online, it seems they’re not on great terms.
He doesn’t definitively say, but he basically hints it heavily, and says only Mani was invited to his exhibition I think.
Apparently they all made a pact not to badmouth each other again in the press. Similar thing with The Verve, they never say anything bad about each other but they don’t speak anymore.

I seen the video you posted. Looked deep in the words " we crossed the line" . I recon the line they crossed was not singing the Rainbow colors in traditional order. Traditional "Red and yellow and pink and green orange and purple and blue'.. they crossed the line by singing it differently there..

At the end of the day, LG, Tim Burgess, Richard Ashcroft, Rick Witter and the list goes on were all taking cues from Ian Brown.
When he started in the mid 80’s he acted like Morrisey though!

  • @kimchi_b

Can't believe you didn't watch First World Problems and get the very obvious meaning. Ian plays ALL the Roses' instruments in it, showing he's now doing it all himself. The Resurrection guitar at the end symbolises the end of the resurrection of the band that he spoke about in he reunion press conference.
John said in a recent interview that he's talked to Ian, but has only seen Reni once (at Mani's wife's funeral), which is what people who know that commented on that video also said - that as far as we know Ian and John are cool (unlike the first time). And no way on earth would Liam disrespect his hero like that.
I think this idea should be respectfully dropped.
