I’ll check it out!
That last one doesn't work
Urgent: Hello, I wanted to warn you that you displayed your network settings in the video. I'm no hacker, but I world think a hacker could use that info if they wanted..??
The video is for online ROKU Network settings, I have a ROKU TV and the settings are different.
@@menotyou1234 they are only my settings on my internal network, no worries
Forced arbitration has to be made illegal ! WHERE is the I DO NOT agree button !
I wish there was a way to get rid of those annoying political ads during political season.
Me too, what I really wish is that they couldn’t start campaigning til 6 months before the election, like in Australia - THAT would be GREAT, instead of 2 years of that mess
Yes!! And the drug ads also!
ummm. turn off the ads box... or weren't you paying attention.😂
When you first initialize it do not enter a location or home City then you will never ever ever ever ever get political ads dumbass
@@joelp3562 doesn't work
My menus were different than yours, so it was hard to follow some of your directions. Once before, I had tried turning off the thing that shuts you down for not saying "yes I'm still watching". That only worked on the roku channel. But your directions actually worked! Thank you, thank you! Once I realized your hints worked I came back to give you the thumbs up you deserve.
Ruth I did how he showed to turn off the are you still watching prompt but still get them.
I did step by step. There's still an ad on the right hand side. Thank you for this channel.
Same here
Same here, even after reboot
Same here ROKU Hisense TV, no workee
Same Here as well
I have Samsung 2011 tv.. I don’t have ads now🎉
i tried all 3 demos and the ad is still there, you do have a nice informative channel here and i subscribed
Screensaver is actually a good thing as some TVs can get burn in from sitting on a single screen too long. Turning it off is a bad idea. It doesn't take that much for system resources to use.
Also Very good for falling to sleep on radio apps like Tune In Radio.
It depends on type of TV you have. Not all types of TVs are at risk of burn in. That said a lot of people these days have OLEDs and those you absolutely have to worry about burn in.

Shoutout to all the real connoisseurs still rocking the plasma panels in 2023! :D
@@Grasshopper-MediaPlasma….🤔Must have low watch time on it. Enjoy it while It’s still working especially if you were the person that probably shelled out 3 to 5 grand they costed when they were brand new. Remember don’t store them laying down.👍
I am so glad I came across you channel here on YT. Now I can go thought my apps and menus with out having to mute my sound, Thanks alot.
Yes...me too!!
Thank you for helping everyone protect their privacy. The ad banner removal at the end seems to be a problem for a number of people including me. I don’t know if it’s possible to help or if ROKU got wise and made it harder to remove. If you are collecting info on an attempt to find another way of helping people remove it here is what I tried.
I am using an old Emerson tv with a ROKU Ultra LT. After getting to the secret menu
I changed the Cycyle Home Screen banner ad server to Demo 3 and restarted the Roku by going to system->power-> system restart. It rebooted and the ad was still there. I repeated the same steps alternating from Production, QA-QA3, Staging-Staging4, Demo1-Demo3.
Thank you for your advice.
On the subtitles menu, a tip for you is to have it turned on for replay. If you haven't heard or understood what someone says, rather than have to keep rewatching the same bit of film over and over to get what is being said, subtitles on on replay will show you what they are saying.
I use that one too….stumbled upon that setting quite by accident. But I still can’t remove the large square on the Right where Roku promotes movies.
Home button 5 times, then the directional arrows was a “no go”. Even when I slowed down the video & wrote down each command (settings, network, remotes & devices, settings, secret screen 2)… just didn’t work for me.
But more importantly, I’m much happier with my updated privacy settings!
Nice, cheers. Personally I turn Auto-adjust display refresh rate on, on mine. I find it provides much smoother playback with less stuttering, at least on my ancient TV in the lounge.
The downside is the glitches you mentioned, it often takes a moment while the TV adjusts to the new input and outputs a black screen for up to a couple of seconds, which can be quite irritating when watching content with ads, as it will happen each time a new one loads.
I find the improved playback quality worth it the minor irritation, in my use case.
Great Help ! Thank You !
Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Cheers
New to the channel!! Ty for all your great knowledge! We appreciate all your help!
Fantastic. I had no idea how to do this but my privacy and security are important so thanks for the help!
Thank you so much for the info! 😊 I had to go back into "secret menu" and change the ad banner settings to Demo1 in order to remove the ad, so my roku may be a bit different. But again, thank you.
And btw... I'm digging your channel name. 😄👍
Outstanding video!!!! Keep up the great work, Sir Doc Squiffy❤🎉💯
Im just SOOOO happy about the "bandwidth saver" I like the TV on low while I sleep and it shuts off and i have spent hours trying to figure out why?!
Thank you!!!!
Everything went great, except the ad on the right side is still there. Also, an ad in the bottom left-hand corner for peacock 99 cents for two months. I checked and rebooted twice. It shows scrollable ads as always disabled, but the blasted things won't go away. Thanks for the tips! 🎉
Thank you! for the wonderful tips brother
Thank you! Subscribed.
Thank you I really enjoyed that
And it was so easy to follow along and I appreciate that
Thanks for that Doc! Another great video.
I got lost from fast explanations! I suppose I will register and try again! Thank you for your information!
You rock🙌🏻 THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for the tips!
Excellent video ty Cheers! Already subscribed and liked Thanks for your effort.
Thank you for this video. It was VERY HELPFUL.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing!!
awesome... thank you! subscribed!
Hmm the last secret setting thing didn’t seem to work for me, ads are still on that screen.
Same here
It worked with one tv but not the other
I think it's funny that he thinks they'll stop recording if you don't want personal ads. We all know they'll just keep recording, just not send personal ads.
thanks!!! subscribed!
I have been considering getting ROKU, but with just me and my older brother. We have stuck with DirecTV. I love my DVR...Thanks for the video.. I will save it.. hugs
It worked! Thanks!
Impressive improvement in response time changing channels
Hey. Thanks so much for this information. Keep it coming.
Thanks for doing this video!
Great Video Thks!
Good walkthrough and steady approach to settings
Thank you. Very informative video 💯👍
Got rid of the ad! Thank you! Hooked up my antenna for locals, scanned them in but can’t figure out how to get to them! 😩
Thank you for this video! Especially Bout the privacy!
Thank you so much for this I have done this all!
1st time here, appreciate the info! Subscribed, commented and liked
Do you have a Roku channel
I just bought my husband a Roku, I’m not interested in it . But, I better learn everything I can about it. I had a bad feeling about this. I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you !
Wow! Amazing! Thanks!
I appreciate that video you posted about the settings highly appreciated💯💪
Thanks for the Roku tips! I’ve wanted to get rid of the ad on the right side of Home! 👍👍 I have Firestick & Roku & use both.
I’m in Houston in US but use my VPN for UK & Australia.
Thanks for all you do!!
Cheers!
Care to say more? I live on the border with Canada so get Canadian TV OTA but would love to get all of their programs (other stations). Is there a setting via Roku to do that? Sounds like you do for UK and Australia. Thanks for any guidance.
FABULOUS INFO!! TYVM!! 👍💯💯
Thank you so very much for providing me with this helpful information!
I will definitely give you a thumbs up on this one thank you for this I've used Roku for years and didn't think about any of this. Any idea how to clear the cache on the Disney Plus app so it will stop starting the next episode at the end where it left off?
Very helpful thank you. Have a good evening
I'm leaning towards the streaming soundbar I'm trying to cut the cord with cable it's too expensive . What are your thoughts on that one ?
Thanks you gave me a lot of useful information,
Hey Doc. The ad banner on my homepage is still there, even though I double checked the settings and restarted the Roku twice. I even powered the Roku stick, and TV, off and powered them back on, and the ad banner is still there. I’m using a recent Roku 4K streaming stick connected to an LG OLED 65 inch TV.
Is there a certain amount of time that has to go by for this change to take effect? Please advise.
I have the same setup and my ad banner is still there, too.
I tried your method to get rid of the ads on the home screen, and the ads are still there.
Same for me.
Thanks so much! All made sense it’s unusual for my poor little pea brain and what I usually can understand. Thanks! Now how can I get a list of the live tv guide channel list. One that’s easy to understand so I can make a favorites list for my user unfriendly hubby? I need it too until I get used to it! Again thanks to you!
Thank you video was very informative.
I am brand new to Roku and this video helped me.
Just like to say thank you for your knowledge and sharing it to help others and me hope all, have a good day ✌️
I appreciate this information, thank you. I did have to stop is several times, guess I'm slower than you speak.
Thank you so much worth the sub
I'm still getting that ad on the home page after following instructions and rebooting.
I couldn't get the last step to work. I not only have the ad on the right, but also one on left. Any thoughts? Thank you!
HI Doc - Thanks for the video. I use older ROKU device (4210X). My WiFi connection/strength servicing it is strong. I find myself frequently restarting the device to mitigate various problems. E.g., Sling channel grid content partially disappears or channel rows become confused; Freevee programs do not fully load -- and other such problems - all of which are "fixed" by my restarting the ROKU device. I find myself restarting many times a day, which is a PITA. Is this an example of ROKU planned obsolesce? Could my problem be cache or memory related? If it's time to buy new ROKU devices, can you suggest which of today's model(s) offer memory bang-for-buck and superior cache management? Thanks for your reply.
Thank you so much! Hopefully my Roku will stop buffering!
Roku used to have a setting that was somewhat hidden that would force the Roku to use a lower bit rate. Frankly 1Mbps gives a picture that is quite suitable for me. Unfortunately Roku discarded that feature. My internet has a monthly download limit and once that is hit the speed is reduced to something similar to dial up modem. I have to use satellite internet because there is no wired internet available to my house. I live on an island which is paradise. But the monthly limit can be used up in one evening of watching Roku which is always running at the fastest rate it can get.
Hopefully starlink will offer unlimited to Islanders
Thank you. I’m keeping your channel!
I think I got part of that. Nearly 80 and all this new technology. My sister and I used to argue about who would have to get up to turn the dial to turn on and off the television. We also always had a dime in our loafers in case we had to make a phone call from a phone booth.
Still good advice about the dime. :)
Great info!!
Excellent. Thank you.
THANK YOU! Wow the ads have been driving us nutty
Great info! 👍🏻
Awesome - that 3 hour continue watching pop up has been a pain in the you know what. Thanks for that tip.
Fantastic video...this info is so important! I am hoping to use an Ethernet connection with my older 1080i plasma TV. I have 2 HDMI ports. Do you know if the ultra will work? As I understand it only the ultra has Ethernet hookup
I still get the ad banner after following the secret screen instructions even after rebooting.
Thanks Doc!
Thanks for the help! That banner thing gets on my nerves! When there is new movie or show and they put it in the box, it's like your remote moves faster and always lands on it.
Very informative, new sub!
easy follow walk thru ….thanks
I couldn't get the last one. Home button 5 X. Etc etc. It didn't bring me to any secret menu. But I'm using a roku TV so it might be different.
Much thanks.
The "secret menu" can only be accessed using a true Roku remote. I also have a 3rd party Roku remote that it didn't work with so I had to dig out an actual Roku remote to access the menu.
I used the remote on the app and it worked, fyi
@@skoofer Yes, I got it to work with my Roku brand remote fine. But first I tried it with a non-Roku brand remote that I had bought when I lost my Roku remote (I later found it). With the off-brand one, I couldn't get to the "secret menu."
Unchecking personalized ads doesn't keep them from collecting data from you. It just means they won't use that data to show you ask that you're more likely to be interested. I pretty much don't see the ads, but if I am going to see them, I would rather see ads that I might be interested in.
I have the 4K Roku box, maybe 3 yrs old, they stopped offering updates for my device, accidentally found that in an old email or I wouldn’t have known! But it’s not letting me uncheck the voice recognition??
Very helpful video. Thank You! I have a Samsung QLED 4K smart TV and a 4K Roku Streambar. But the streambar picture quality is no where close to the 4K quality of the TV itself. I am hoping I have the Display Type set wrong. Wish Me Luck!!
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for teaching me to be more aware of these 'traps'!
I did ALL the steps on mine and my daughter's!
As far as the themed background…. Pay close attention to them!!! Chose a theme and notice there are hidden movie character and objects in the moving screen. I have fun starring and trying to figure them out… wait a month and if you have figured them all out choose another. You can google the screen and get the answers to see if your right.
I just did the sequence to get rid of the advert above your head and restarted my Roku but it’s still showing, what did I do wrong?
Same. I have my settings exactly as shown, resarted the system and it's still there.
@@nickimontie frustrating isn’t it?!
@@mystikskye Yes. I wonder if it matters which Roku device it is?
@@nickimontie ,
It probably does matter which. I have a tv with roku already on there, and also have the plug in roku, and they have slightly different menus.
You still get adds, but they won't be personalized. If you want personalized adds, they will "spy" on things you watch/like/ect and then you will see more of those adds. Kinda like when Google will tailor adds to things you search.
I love the screensaver its dope
Great video! Unfortunately for me, the Demo3 setting didn't remove the ad on the home screen.
Same here. Restarted the system after doing the setting to Demo3 and even after the reboot, the ad is still there....
Same here
Same.
There is no way for it's removal, he is full of b.s.
@@Afterburner2ya I guess kinda sucks
Also followed, step-by-step, screen add, it’s still there. You advised to reboot if it is, not sure how to reboot. Unless that simply means, repeat steps. Appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Are there any cameras built into the Roku hardware?
I tried to get rid of the advertising on all three of my Roku units and no success. I did everything you said. They are still there even resetting.
Great video, though I wasn't able to remove the ads on my home screen (Hisense Roku tv). Not sure why, but "Demo3" didn't remove the ads for me. After cycling through each option (demo1-3, stagging1-3,qa1-3, etc.) and restarting afterwards, the ads still remained. Maybe the option to change it is in another secret option page (As the secret options you mentioned were "secrete option page 2", on mine.), but I was unable to change "Ad banner channel: production" on this option page.
Nice video, thank you! I would like to connect my Roku sound bar to my wired network, can I do this with the USB ports and an adapter?
I have a 32" onn. Roku bought this year. I also have a "honey well" air purifier. When I run the air purifier on low, regardless if the t.v is on or even plugged in the t.v plays music at such a low level, I thought I was going nuts for weeks. Until figured out where the constant mix of neverending music was coming from. Help me!
Was so happy to hear about getting rid of the ad box but alas it didn't work. Ughhh! Tried several times. Followed every step. Sadness.
