    As a teen going into my freshmen year, this sounds a bit overwhelming but i already know more about nutrition than the average adult and i’ve been interested in it for over a year now. It is a strong passion of mine and this video was incredibly helpful for me to know what i am getting myself into. I will keep doing private study of nutrition on my own free time and one day I hope to become successful like you

      Registration is a national certification administered through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. You are eligible to take the registration exam following completion of an accredited program and internship. Starting in 2024, a Masters degree will be necessary. After passing the registration exam, you can apply for state licensure.

    New sub. Great video. Having looked into this, I think it’s important to understand the significant difference between motivation for nutrition and an interest in the science of dietetics. Do you want to work with people tackling disease who need highly specialised diet hence the intense science aspect of being a dietician. And/or do you truly understand the roel and responsibility of a dietician?
    It needs specific learning in science in a way nutrition doesn’t. Course syllabuses make these differences and details clear.
    If interest is more generalised then dietetics probably isn’t for you. Know what you want to do with the qualification and more importantly why you are doing it. There is a difference and a dietician and nutritionist can serve very different purposes. Sometimes it’s helpful to go to different professionals for the two specialisms re perspective and insights.

    I'm a life coach and would like to look into nutrition as a niche. Also, I think careers in nutrition and dietetics are going to soar over the next 10 years. Don't believe me? Four states have now started pulling foods with certain chemicals in them off of the shelves. We now have "healthy" junk food. People will always be interested in what they are eating and how to eat well for optimum health.

My education is in Physical Therapy (undergrad) and Human Nutrition (Masters degree). In the UK I worked as a nutritionist and was registered with the Association for Nutrition. I am going through the process of getting my degrees evaluated for relevancy in the US. I believe I will likely have to do some additional study and/or supervised practice to register as a RDN. My question is, in the meantime do you know if it is possible to practice as a nutritionist? I am in California. Many thanks in advance!

      That I don’t know, it depends if the job you’re applying for will accept your education. If you’re doing private practice stuff, it would be best to get the approval prior to seeing clients as this can pose a risk since you’re unregistered and you’re from a different country.

      For prevention you’d probably prefer being a community nutritionist! Works with providing more education

      CDR is the credentialing body that gives the RDN license

    I have a question. I am a registered nurse and have been practicing for 6 years. Is there a way I can become a nutritionist or registered dietician through a masters program? Because my bachelors degree is specified.

      Yes UNC Chapel Hill has an online program (MPH Nutrition and Dietetics), that I'm currently in now.

    If I am majoring in Biology how would i go about the pathway to becoming a dietician. Would i need to do something related to that in the graduate level?

    • @luakin
      @luakin  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you would need to do a DPD Masters or PhD program.

  • @alexisnixon-garnette8620

    I have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition & someone said they wanted to hire me as a nutritionist, but I needed to get my nutritionist certification. Does that mean they're technically looking for a RD b/c I assumed that if you have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, technically you'd be considered a "nutritionist" just not a RD

    • @luakin
      @luakin  Před 2 lety +1

      They’re asking you to take the exam that RD’s take minus the internship. I’m not sure how to register for the exam that way, but I know a few people have done so. That makes you a certified nutritionist/licensed nutritionist.

    I feel like anyone who has a bachelors degree in nutrition can call themselves a nutritionist because they have that education but only one who’s gone through the masters/dietetics certification can call themselves a registered dietician
