Reading a caliper came up on a final so I just had to Google it. Thanks man!

i'd like to understand why it has a metric scale. it seems like it would only be useful to eyeball the metric measurement to the 0.1cm accuracy (dial appears useless for metric), and to get the accuracy of the dial you'd need to measure in inches and multiply by 2.54 anyway

This might seem like a simple question, but why does this dial have two different zeros on the dial? Every set of dial calipers that I have ever used only had one zero on the dial (from 0-99). Thanks

I have noticed that too when I first used them. I guess the great ratio is different?

Yeah it's easy to overcome but

I have also wondered that. It seems like no advantage to the user - if there is only one span from 0-99 then the numbers and grad marks will be larger and easier to read. I can't think of an advantage to having two ranges.

seems unnecessary, but maybe so it's easy to tell if you're above or below the graduation mark

Do one on a Vernier Caliper. Very few people can read those.
