    My main issue you addressed in this is my schedule. With Caleb in the NICU and dealing with insurance, family then nurses and just dealing w the NICU environment in general I REALLY slacked on my schedule. I knew I needed to pump every 2-3 hours but scheduling has been my biggest stumbling block personally. But now my schedlue is 8 AM-2 AM every 2 hours. As well as fitting in an extra 2 pump sessions when I can during that time frame. Plus trying to start my own business and keeping up with the house took some of my attention away from making a solid schedule. And yeah the first 12 weeks IS so damn hard. I've been discouraged and close to giving up several times. Especially with the misinformation I've recieved even from the hospital staff. There are so many mixed messages out there about supply and breastfeeding in general. Definitely agree on having a positive mindset. The spectra is such a pleasant feeling pump and I'm much more comfortable sensitivity wise than I ever felt with the Medela or Hygeia. Yeah and output of pumping moms has also been discouraging as well but I get that comparing yourself is also a mental thing. I shouldn't worry so much about getting my supply back.
    Also I already got the Medela adapter saved to my pumping amazon list as I have spare Medela parts. Definitely a great thing to have an adapter and also have the S2 saved along with a spare kit of spectra parts including duckbills. I've got this covered hehe ;)

    I really like ur outlook...it's comforting to know that we as mom's are doing our best for our kids.. I'm 5 weeks pp and make only 1 ounce during pumping..that too with the right boob as I don't get any thing on my left due to which I end up giving formula.. I feel really flustered when I see ppl getting almost 33 ounces a day ..I will continue to pump and hope I will be able to provide for my child and eliminate formula in the coming weeks

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 5 lety

      Supported & informed is best in my opinion. You’re doing your very best and an ounce is still an ounce of that liquid gold! Some women over produce, some under produce and some make just enough. Either way we need to support each other! Keep up the hard work momma!!💕

    Your videos just made me feel better about myself as a mother. I was beating myself up because my baby amd I are having such trouble to latch and feed and it breaks my heart to not be able to give her the nutrition she deserves. My husband and I had decided to exclusively pump, and being a part of Hispanic communities where moms breastfeed exclusively for like 2 years, I felt judged and was my milk would go dry. Bring 2 weeks PP this literally me cry the whole night, didn't get any milk and just started getting super depressed. So your videos are shipper helpful, everyone's situation is different.
    Thank you for you're videos 😭 i needed this.
    Is it true your milk will dry up if you don't latch your baby anymore? 😢

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 5 lety +1

      If you have no underlying inhibitors and have a good pumping routine, you can successfully breastfeed! Your milk will not dry up. Many moms may find this to be the case because of all the misinformation about pumping out there. It's easy to not understand the requirements of exclusively pumping and the price is your milk supply unfortonately. That's why I made my videos. So mommas like you who made need guidance know exactly what you'll need to do and hopefully have the best odds at being successful! It is completely normal to grieve your nursing relationship but please do not let others tell you that determines your worth as a mother. Feeding our babies is obviously super important but it is not the only purpose to being a mother either. Keep your head up momma, you're doing your best!

    I’m a silent viewer most of the time so I don’t comment much on anything. But I’ve started watching you since delivering my third baby 4 days ago and I’m so pleased with how informative and encouraging you are in every single video. I am exclusively pumping right now as my daughter is in the nicu (born 35 weeks) and it’s really hard because I’m only producing 1 ounce from both breasts every time I pump which is every three hours. I pump for 30 minutes each time and I’m wondering if I’m making enough milk for my baby. I drop off the milk every day at a certain time and can breastfeed her while I’m there so it makes me really paranoid that i might not be giving her what she needs. Do you have any advice on increasing milk supply in the first week and do you know if 1 ounce every pump session 4 days pp is normal or if it’s not enough? I formula fed both of my other children so this is new to me and I really want to stick to breastfeeding/pumping for at least 1 year. Thank you for all your informative and positive videos!

    Hi mommy! Much love from Singapore and your videos are not only very informative, encouraging yet straightforward. Would love to ask a couple of questions, please.
    1. Been EPing for almost 2 months now, 14 weeks pp. However, it seems like my supply has regulated by only producing enough (100-120ml) for my baby boy who is 3 months + now. Once supply has been regulated, can I still try to increase my milk supply?
    2. My current flange is 24mm Medela PersonalFit with a nipple diameter of 15cm after pumping. However, with it, am almost touching both sides with probably 1-1.5mm on each sides. Im wondering if its the correct fit afterall?
    3. Whenever I put on to pump, Id feel a slight prickly sensation over the areola instead of the nipple. Any idea why? And also the nipples gets super sensitive after a pumping sensation.
    4. Is it advisable to wear handsfree bra on all day long?
    5. Do you pump immediately after giving birth?
    6. Im constantly pumping for 30mins or more during each of my pumping session, not only still I feel like the breast arent completely empty and sometimes theres like a 'clump' or 'clog', how do I address this issue? Sunflower lechitin?
    7. For Medela Freestyle, can I interchange to the letdown mode again during the pumping session once the moment milk is not flowing? Reason being is that, I still feel full even almost reaching my 30 minutes usual mark. Or should I just keep going on expression mode instead till am empty?
    Hope to hear from you soon! Take care and stay safe always!

    So glad I found your channel! You mentioned how when you pumped 4 times a day you only pumped 1-2 oz, when you went back to pumping every 2-3 hours how much did your supply go up by?

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 5 lety

      Me too! I did have a natural oversupply with my daughter so please keep that in mind. Our bodies aren’t designed to over supply. The normal amount of milk to produce is exactly what baby needs. So while my numbers are higher it is completely normal to make only what baby eats in a day! I made this video years ago in reference to my journey with my oldest daughter who’s now 4.5 years old so I’m not 100% sure. I know it took weeks of consistently staying on track with my schedule and other things to see it even increase a little. But eventually I got back to over supplying and making around 40 oz per day. So maybe around 6-8 ounces every 3 hours.

    Alia, when you pump until empty, can you stop pumping a single side if one boob empties faster then the other and just continue to empty the other one or will it cause problems in supply between the 2?

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 8 lety +1

      +Andrea Tackett Yep, you can stop pumping the one that empties faster. If it produces less than the other boob and that's the reason it empties faster you could continue to pump it while the other empties to try and even out supply though(:

    Love your videos momma but had some questions.
    1. You talked about massaging/shaking the breasts is that while pumping or before/after? Won't they leave their place or fell off?
    2. For refridgerating the pump parts should we run them under tap water first or put them in the fridge directly?
    3. If I heat milk up from the refridgerator but my LO doesnt eat from it like licked the nipple and left it can I put it in the refridgerator again n reheat when needed?
    4. How did you decide upon the ounces your child needed?
    Thanks in adv. Hope you'll ans them all.

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you! 1. Any and all! Before is good to get milk flowing. Then during (just take the flange off you before) will help milk flow again if it stops. After is good to make sure you emptied! 2. You can do either with a healthy, term baby. But running them under what does make it a bit cleaner and would give more longevity to them. 3. If they just licked the nipple I’d say that’s fine. But if they even take one actual drink from the bottle just leave it out at room temp and use it before 4 hours is up. If they don’t eat it in that time frame, use it for a milk bath! 4. This is a question I get a lot that I wish I could be more help with. My oldest two had been diagnosed with GERD by the time they were a couple months old. Because of it we never had a normal approach on feeding. With their conditions we didn’t set any set rules for feeding. With Lexi we’ve just been following her lead. If she’s ever seemed like she wanted more we offer in 1 oz increments to not waste milk and not overfeed. Our pediatrician is pretty knowledgeable about breastfeeding so her recommendations on how much she should be eating have been helpful too. Happy to help momma!

    • @MommaAlia
      @MommaAlia  Před 5 lety +1

      You want to pump until empty. For me that was around 30 minutes each side but I was a massive oversupplier so that’s why it took so long. Everyone will be different in how long they take to empty!
