Thank you so much for posting these great videos they are so informative! I collect and play vintage synths and your channel has helped me with many of my synth purchases. It is awesome to see your sample collection it is fantastic! I will definitely have to start to get some of these cds before they disappear into the abyss.
Wow great sample CD collection! A couple of years ago I bought a Roland S-760 with a complete Roland CD sample library, I think about 15 cds total maybe more, from a T.V. and movie sound producer, I got it for a really good price too. The sounds really are very good, and the fact that the S-760 needs a boot floppy for the O.S. and only has 32mb of RAM is really kind of mind blowing. I like the videos, keep going. Ciao!
One of my favourite sample CD's from the day is the Roland Sample Library Preview CD that was bundled with the S-760 sampler. Being a library preview it includes a wide cross-section of different sounds, most of which still sound great today.
Nice, beautiful daughter!! :) Fun to watch this part! It's also very great to see YOU personally now! You should have done that much sooner!! :) No reason for being shy!! Very likable!! I like the sample CDs. So far you didn't explain in which way you used them. Obviously the sounds are not formated in any way. You had to load the audio wav-files into your sampler to use them at that time, right?
lol. I was just about to type "Holy shit!" when you showed the table full of your sample CD's. But, then I thought of all of my sample libraries on my external HD and thought, "ok, I guess it isn't that extreme" lol. I have thousands of samples. And someday.......I still wont use them all. hahaha
Hey if you still got them cds Would you be able to find the cd that matches this www.reddit.com/r/WeAreTheMusicMakers/comments/g0uzzh/looking_for_a_90searly_2000s_sample_pack/?
Make a couple of songs with Grace singing, if she's good or becomes good (after she's finished with her homework, of course). I like the early 80s ones, such as "Perfect Life" from 1 January, maybe also put vocals on "Grace", the one with Memorymoog. Haven't heard all you've done, but I think several are potential hit songs.
How do you not get overwhelmed by having so much? Amazing collection you own. Also, is Grace your daughter? She's funny and adorable, my friend. I don't have kids, but my paternal instinct kicked in when she started speaking. God bless her!
I've got the Universe of Sounds Roland Vol. 1 - you should do a demo of it. If you have your S-550 still, it should work directly with it. Skippy's Noizbox - John “Skippy” Lehmkuhl came over to my house a couple years ago to check out my Fairlight IIx. It was great to hear him talk about his life as a sound designer. He's a really nice guy!
Hi Kirk, yes, I have the S-550 and S-760 currently, and I'll definitely post a video of that sample CD, like you, I really like the sounds on that CD a lot. Very cool that you got to hang out with Skippy :)
Forgot to add that I have the Universe of Sounds on the Emulator II, which I think was the original format, so although it's probably from the same sampling sessions, the sound and patches are different, I'll have to do two videos at some point!
That would be great! I have those samples for my EII as well. I've never compared them. I always figured they had repackaged the EII samples for Roland. It would be interesting to see a comparison.
Im desperately looking for the complete Sonic Images CD Collection (not the one you mention in the video). I only got the first CD since the others got lost while moving the studio... unfortuneatly they are super rare.
Have any of your children developed a love for synthesisers and vintage analogue technology? Especially grace? As it seems to be harder to find girls and women who have an interest in synthesisers. It would be awesome for you as a dad if she did. X
Yes, back in the late '80s / early '90s I think the copyright laws on sampling were still kind of being defined and, let's say, "foggy" as it was a new medium. It was a different era although I think most people didn't sample to rip off other people, they just wanted to have fun with all the possibilities that sampling offered. But yeah, copyright should be taken seriously and rightly so, I still remember very well all the famous lawsuits of the era, Negativland, McHammer, The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony, MARRS Pump Up The Volume etc.
Reminds me of the documentary on the amen-beat. An example how certain samples become popular without ever being cleared and instead there exists sample cds (like Zero G) which claim to have rights to it.
Have you noticed any CD rot on these sample CD's? I paid $99 US back in the 90's fro the JJ Jeczalik Art of Noise sample CD, was supposed to be pressed on high quality CD, but now I get static when I try to extract the audio from it.
Hey Paolo - Have you finally found your Coldcut's Kleptomania CD ? If not, I can help ! I still have all my sample CDs here - I definitely can't do anything else but keep them all ! :D
I take this opportunity to ask: does some one remember some "vintage synth library" (cant remember actually label). CDs contains some moog memorymoog, roland mks series, deepbass9, farfisa, korg 700, syrinx (with classic JMJ laser harp sync sound) and some other classic synth samples. Also i remember additional samples with chord sound probably cutted from songs. Guys can some one remember that library? Im trying to find ner for years :(
I have a motif xf I wonder can you copy a file from a sample cd and have it load in the motif? I have a whole bunch of sample CD's my favorite is pro samples vol 25 pop and funk brass
Hi, I realized that in the back you have an Eventide harmonizer and some other Eventide stuff, is there any chance you talk to us about them? Thanx i.a.!
SynthMania Thanks for the info sorry i missed that part. Can i be cheeky and ask did Zero 2 have track info inside the sleeve ?. As im wondering if you can help me indentify a synth sound thanks :-)
***** Thanks for your comment . Ok no worries . I know that there were a few sample cds that actuay listed the name of synth used for synth samples and names of the drum machine hits and breakbeat.
Hey Synthmania, you have brought your channel to a whole new level including Vlogging with your family. Thats great.
Zeproo, thanks so much
Love this series. It's strange to see CDs becoming collectible items.
I'm loving these videos of you talking through your collection. Thanks so much for posting.
PacifierMusic yep
Man that whole dad thing is what makes these videos. I want a kid like Grace too one day!

Ahh, I would have loved to spend an entire day ripping these onto the computer and creating an organized sound library.
One day isn’t enough... 😅
and make scans of the cd's and covers... this is such an obsessive thing to get into....
"This is from when I was using acid..." LOL me too.
Station 2Station when did he say this

"Did you makes those cookies?"
"Yes I did."
"Are they good?"
"Yes."
You wanted a bite didn't you! haha
Wasn't aware of that Bill Bruford sample cd. I love all the prog rock bands he's played in. Talented drummer.
I love my ensoniq eps wish I had my emulator ii again. I paid 200 for it back in 2005. now they're $2,000 and more.

Ghost in the machine and q up arts pamdoras toolbox are amongst my favorite sample CDs out there.
I'd be interested in hearing some demos from those Synclavier libraries and the Club 50 Master Studio Collection.
I bought the Zero G 1, 2 and 3 as well as Xtatic Goldmine on Ebay today.
lol. I was just about to type "Holy shit!" when you showed the table full of your sample CD's. But, then I thought of all of my sample libraries on my external HD and thought, "ok, I guess it isn't that extreme" lol. I have thousands of samples. And someday.......I still wont use them all. hahaha

17:06: It is "brass and winds" instead of "bass and winds" as Grace said. BTW your synth videos are amazing!
We need more Grace in your videos! She is so cute
Just got home from Baby Sitting. True Dat!!! I feel ya!
I've got the Universe of Sounds Roland Vol. 1 - you should do a demo of it. If you have your S-550 still, it should work directly with it.

Nice, i also have many of those 90s sample cds ... but beware: many of these samples have never been cleared correctly.

Those sample cds used to be pretty expensive back then didn't they?
Mate... An arm and a leg ! The big ones were selling for about 60 GBP (around 90 EUR back then). When you see the price of sample packs nowadays...
Not to mention, there are tons of free sample packs
Do you have the original Jungle Warfare? It's so difficult to find and I lost mine years ago!
I take this opportunity to ask: does some one remember some "vintage synth library" (cant remember actually label).
