    Uh, the Gretsch guitars built in Japan at the Terada plant are pretty much universally praised by Gretsch players. Gretsch was seriously slipping under Baldwin's care and the sale back to the Gretsch family, and the move of production to Japan saved the brand.

      @ChristopherDowning Před 3 lety

      Yep - I remember looking at a green 6118 with the harp tailpiece in 1964 - it was horrible to play and made in such a slipshod way - not surprised in the end that USA manufacture finished. I was buying but bought an early Rickenbacker 1997 - the first year of production. The current Gretsch's are flawless.

      The new gretches made in Japan are way better than anything they ever made in the United States back in the day. Haven't had any of their new USA custom stuff in my hands though but I imagine those are pretty nice too.

    Per Wikipedia, Friedrich Gretsch died in 1895, but there are several generations of "Fred Gretsch". Fred W. Gretsch did a deal with Fender in 2002, and retained ownership whilst FMIC handles "most of the development, distribution, and sales". Thanks as always for a fun video

    I love my Japanese Gretsch 6120 - it's the real deal. Brian Setzer seems happy with his signature line (he actually plays them), all made in Japan, too. The new Player's Edition is a great line, too. All the retro sound and feel but with better upper fret access, locking tuners, pinned bridge, treble bleed, no-load tone pots, string-thru Bigsby - what's not to like? If I wasn't already flush with guitars, I'd probably get a hollowbody and a Jet player's edition with the Bigsby and Filter'trons. The hard tail ones are more rock machine, but still very cool. Thanks for the demo.

      I think nowdays you spend your money on what inspires you to play better, to write the best music you can, thats the point if investing lots on money on a guitar, if not we would all just buy an inexpensive guitar like a schecter or a squier idk, the notes all are the same, but the feel, the mojo...its like woman, they all have boobs ans vagina, some of them have ass, most of them are beautiful, but not all of them make you feel that spark that makes you be a better man, in this case a better guitar player.

    I bought a Gibson "The Paul" in the '70s, which has paid its dues many times over and I'll never willingly part with. That said - and I hate to say it - if it was a choice between pretty much guaranteed quality on the Japanese Gretsch against almost playing Russian roulette on a modern Gibson - I'd opt for the Gretsch every time. I wish Lee and Rob had devoted more time to the cheaper non-Japanese option, because there's probably a huge potential market for these - and I'd seriously consider one as an extra option for recording with.

      @@DavidMorissetJapanese Gretschs are not the same universe as "import" Gretschs, and that's saying something because even Chinese Jets are not bad guitars at all and get gigged all the time. Resale on Gretschs are hurt by people that don't know what they are or how to play them. Anyone can play an SG or LP. Current prices for Ginson are ridiculous. From the experience of owning a couple vintage Gretsch and a couple modern ones I must say.....The Japanese one are much better quality wise. With the factory's in japan that produce these, you can really tell these builders/luthiers absolutely love making the best instrument they can, every little detail is taken care of. And you can see the respect for the brand reflected in the final product. I'm not knocking any American made vintage Gretsch, I've owned a Falcon and a Rally. I used the Rally in a music video (on our channel) but you can tell even for being American made there were corners cut and they weren't build to last so much as something like an old 335 or strat. BUT THATS OK!! Still love both!

    After playing Gibson Les Paul Standards, Custom Shop LPs, and Classics, plus both Charvel and Jackson customs, and Fender Select Strats, (in other words, I've played some really great guitars) I've just purchased one of these in the dark cherry metallic. Definitely curious to hear these pickups with the chambered body. I still have a lot of Gibson Les Pauls, Charvels and a custom Jackson Rhoads, I think this will sonically fill a hole I've been wanting to close up. I almost bought the Malcolm Young signature Gretsch, but I just couldn't do it. As much as I love Mal and his dynamic rhythm playing, I don't like buying signature guitars. Really, for my skill level, I should be playing a Fender Squier, lol. We'll see how she sounds!

    Lots of people aren't aware that the later American-made Gretsch guitars were terrible, and the current Japanese models are far better in quality.
