Team Andertons. 🤘❤️
Those lessons with Justin really paid off Cap. You sound great and look more comfortable playing. Great bends.
This guy SUKS play standing up. TTK SLAPPED U AT NAMM 2018
FYI That 5655 has Broadtrons, not Filtertrons.
Damn I love you guys. In a straight manly way that is....wink wink! Not only are you hilarious, you always have all the goods and info to go with it. Cheers from the US. Boys!
Nobody with a brain cares. Two healthy young people can sit in a room together without creating a health crisis. 99.98% recovery. Carry on.
AC/DC are/were all great people. My Wife flew from Heathrow to Miami with both my kids in the late seventies (when they were toddlers), AC/DC were onboard. The members of AC/DC provided more help in getting her off the plane and through the officialdom than BA were. They carried the boys and their pushchairs - anyone with children will tell how much sheer stuff you take for toddlers on an intercontinental flight (specially as I was in Cannes for MIDEM at the time). No one is allowed to badmouth AC/DC in my presence! Best, Pete.
That's proper humanship right there! I guess you've been buying their records as a nod back?
I met Angus and Malcom when they were chilling out with their wives and kids at pool area of the hotel I was doing a wedding gig at , did not take a lot to avoid being celebrity struck as they were so god damn down to earth just joking and chatting to the guests and staff in the pool area.
Great story! Great band who were great people 🤘
Very cool story mate!
That’s an awesome story! Those guys always were and are the working man’s band and it totally checks out they would do something like that.
Pete: I can't really play that sort of thing
Also Pete: [immediately plays that sort of thing incredibly]
Sponge Pete.
I searched for that comment. Exactly what I thought! 😂😂
I just had an idea for when John Mayer (or any artist) comes to Andertons. You already did 3 Sounds Like John Mayer and tried to make his pedalboard on a budget, so why not try to make a Sound Like John Mayer BY John Mayer ? It could be really fun to see him wander around the store, choose his rig and seeing what he is thinking when he choose a piece of equipement (why does he take this pedal, this guitar/amp ? What kind of sound is he looking for etc). You could even give him a setup like he forgot his rig at home and all he has on him is 1500£, and he need something to play a Grateful Dead & Co concert, or a John Mayer Trio concert, etc ! Great video, take care of yourself !
Th3lucki just the small matter of getting hold of John Mayer then.
This is a great idea, you’re genius
.... I mean... all the yes.
I think it's a great idea ....but it would have to be _on_ a budget to be any fun. :)
@@tree267 It can work for any other artist that come to Andertons ;)
Good lord - Lee's solo in the intro was amazing! No need to say - Pete, incredible as always.
Really was some of the captains best work. He's clearly been practicing.
agreed, it sounded effing nasty! (in a good way)
Shouldn't The Captain's signature lick be in the Andertons intro by now?
That is a great idea!!!
You mean this one? czcams.com/video/X-jlA9GNjTY/video.html
@@marmadukewinterbotham2599 Yup :)
Never saw this video collage of the famous lick before... Good one bro!
Hot damn Lee that intro solo was TASTY.
Gretsches today are just like they were when they were designed 60 or 70 years ago, the cadillac of guitars. Just luxury tanks.
Friend has a Gretsch 6120 he got from his grandad, who bought it back in '57. The thing still sounds brand new and it's gem of a guitar.
These are not yesterdays Gretsch. Lets keep it real. The classic Gretsch are years above thess
Danish Pete even gave the impressed look at cap
I've had an Electromatic center block model for at least five years now. The fit, finish, sound, and playability of that thing is absolutely off the charts. I feel like I stole it.
I think the writing is on the wall.. Pete is Robs successor whether HE likes it or not. The videos have never been more entertaining or sounded as good. Farewell Chappers, end of an era.
Yes, and honestly I’m kinda glad. No offense. His attempts to make everything shreds or metal weren’t to my liking and I wasn’t a fan of his tone.
@@route6666 Might be reading into it too much too but Lee seems to genuinely enjoy making the videos with Pete too, in a way that never really came out with Rob
imo it's really just a genre preference. i liked rob sounds better, and with him the chemistry was perfect... pete it's still hit (for the most part) or miss.
he plays incredibly good and the show will get better and better.
Facts
Bog Fish think it's been that way for a while mate. Robs ego spiralled way out control and it showed in the videos. Full of himself, pathetic attempts to be funny, and his guitar tone was so high gain he made almost every guitar sound the same. He owes all of his current success to andertons, without lee he'd still be a nobody
I downsized from 11 guitars to just 2. My Gibson Les Paul Standard, and my new Gretsch G5222 Double Cut. (Partially purchased because of this review). It's a PHENOMENAL guitar. Not just for the money, just really, REALLY great. Thanks guys.
I just want to say, I love listening to Rob and Pete, but it has been pure joy listening to how much Rabea and Lee have improved over the years. Your voicing has gotten really good, Lee, and your use of space is great now as well. I tip my hat to you, sir. Your hard work is showing.
15 seconds into the video, Lee had me sold on the Double Jet. I’ll be buying one the minute they make it to Canada. That price is ridiculous. USA made means nothing in our times. I’m legit blown away by the new Electromatics.
high-end Gretsch are Japanese... Not US...
Gonna order one Monday🙌🙌
Olav Johann Orvik I was referring to Fender’s and Gibson’s etc. The USA made comment was for all guitars. Asian made guitars have come a long long way.
@@olavjorvik94 Gretsch does have a custom shop in the US
a tear wells in my eye. Godspeed Malcolm. There are rock concerts and then there are ACDC rock concerts.
11:25 Pete trying to distance himself from Cap'n's reliving of whatever well ingrained nightmare is absolutely hilarious.
Captain Lee, your solo during the intro was GREAT!! Material to study for sure.
Wow, Cap was reeeeeally feeling that intro jam! Awesome job!
That intro made my day. Long live Rock n’ Roll. Beautiful guitars!
I have owned two electramatics for 4 years now. I love these guitars . I play them everyday. My expensive guitars stay in the closet. The electramatics are so comfortable and play so well. I think every guitar should have a master volume. Genius idea.
Thanks to the Captain and Danish Pete for spreading the Gospel of Gretsch .
Thank you Lee! I just ordered one. I wish I lived closer to Andertons. I had a great time when I got to meet you right before the chaos started. See you next year as I am planning our next visit back. This is Greg from Florida saying “Thank you!
Gretsch guitars just sound so amazing! I have a Broadkaster Jr in green and it's just so nice. I really love when Anderton's and other channels feature Gretsch. Don't feel like they get their due as much as Fender or Gibson, but man... so much tone range.
ALWAYS love your vids, guys. Once I get over the pond, you're my 1st stop
Awsome jam at the start guys and those guitars sound great , thanks for keeping the spirit alive
-ME
I have little interest in these guitars
-Watches video
I want these guitars
Exactly what I’m going through right now
I've got a 1948. Has been to Guam, Korea, Hawaii and all over the PNW with the Navy Band.
I got a 5420T (Electromatic hollow body) in 2017. Love it. Great quality for a reasonable price. Love the sound and playability. Big Gretsch fan here.
That's the best Roland Rat impression I've ever seen, you look so like him Lee
Been waiting for this since the streamliner video last week! Thabks fellas, love your work, hope you're staying healthy and safe! ❤
I’m American, so I can speak of “RAT RODS” with a bit of authority, not really, but bear with me. Imagine a do it yourself guy that buys an older American V8 car and decides to turn it into a proper hot rod on a budget. In the winter, when he is stuck in his garage, he decides to pull the interior (to ready it for new upholstery), he sands it down and takes out the door glass and primers it (to ready it for paint), and then to get it running he upgrades parts as he goes. He puts a premium on 1/4 mile drag times and burning rubber at the stop light, so he spends the last of his savings on an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley Carb, Long tube headers and dual exhaust, a more aggressive cam, larger fuel pump, and some sort of shorter gear and locker for the rear. Because after all, going fast in your car on the road is better than admiring your pretty car in the garage. What you get as a result is a car that hauls ass, isn’t finished, still rolls around with primer, and no headliner, carpet, or frills. Since it is a cool as hell and he gets compliments everywhere he goes, it is going to remain “Ratty” and probably better brakes, before that expensive paint job the owner doesn’t have money to get. Ironically, the ‘rat rod look’ gained traction among folks that have a lot of money and want to look plain, tough, and impressive. The same kind of folk ride new Harley Davidsons and buy Gibson Les Pauls, I imagine. As a result, the rattyness has established itself as a look and trend all its own.
The Captain is on FIRE! Sounds great, Lee! Pete is always great. Love Anderton's channel.
Just incredible guitars. They sound so good. But you two are great players. This makes them sounds even better.
Just picked up the Rat Rod in grey today. It's a beautiful guitar. As soon as I walked in the store it, stood out to me. It sounds and plays just as good as it looks.
owe a lot to y'all for opening me up to such a huge world of guitars... THANK YOU! forever a fan.... rockstars
A few years ago I went into my local guitar shop to buy my first electric guitar. I was thinking squire or epiphone but ended up buying an electromatic jet.
So much guitar for the money - it was $650 Australian dollars and had a higher quality finish than some American made guitars that cost well over $2 grand.
The new double cuts cost a little more but still retail for around $900 AUD. Based on Lee's recommendation I'll be getting one as soon as stores open back up.
To anyone wanting an affordable guitar I can't speak more highly of the Gretsch jets.
Might be the best sounding jam I've ever heard on Andertons.
G5222 is mind-blowing. And I didn't know about it. what a beauty!
glorious reviews and great fun to watch. I am an 46 y young grandfather now and this is what youtube needs . Good fun and education at the same time. 👍
Seems like I'm always watching the jams several times through, they're that good!
I picked up a g5222 jade grey and the thing is absolutely phenomenal. It looks just like the 50’s version and it’s got so many things about it that make it so unique on sound and you feel the vibrations. I love it so much. Should be pretty fun for some metal :D
The captains playing is sounding really good these days.
Good job Lee.
This might be Lee's best tone to date on the opening jam! Nice playing Cap!
I was just looking for a video online for these yesterday...happy 28th day in a row indoors to me!
From Leo: Lee must be jamming with a lot more skilled musicians these days, his skills have grown exponentially. I have had a sweet spot for Gretsch guitars for 50 years. The voice of Filtertron pickups has always been outstanding. Glad to see that the Fender marketing people have been making them a lot easier to get. Great guitars, When you play them, it is hard to believe they are not $1795.00.
Agreed. Lee's finally sounding more like a guitar player these days.
Only thing I'd change are the pots... unless, they've finally upgraded them. IDK, but I'd hope they did! The economy pots were really 💩'y. Great guitars though.
LOL the Rob leaves the scene and all of a sudden the Lee is able to grow and expand. Interesting...
@@levipatterson7624 Lee probably got lessons from Pete. He appears more patient. I love Rob, but he's like, "Lee, just do this," runs magic fingers up and down the neck a million miles per hour. Lee just watches him like," What the bloody hell?" 🤣
Lee, your playing has really improved since you first started making videos. Great job man!
Hey Captain, your playing has really come on in the years since you started making these vids. You got some chops, man!
Hey, Captain! I just love your solo :) Playing take off...and you're more confident than ever. Cheers!
I love The Gretsch Electromatic’s! Really enjoyed the outro jam!
Happy Easter from Winnipeg, Canada. Beautiful Gretsch guitars and super episode, as usual! Play safe stay safe! 🙏
Thanks from the U.S. I just recently lost all mine and my late fathers collection to a house fire so i havnt been able to play in a while. Your videos keep me going. Thanks again guys.
my name is mud Wow, mni mud. What a blow, losing your gear to fire. Best wishes. I hope you and yours recover well, and you get some strings in your hands soon.
Hey Captain playing so much better than last time I saw, nice solo! :)
It took me 40 minutes to watch this video because I replayed Lee's opening solo like... 30 times 😂
6:46 don't ask why but when lee played that D chord, I instantly heard Ronson
I have wanted a Gretsch for many years, but as I got older that interest lessened, but Lee, you have revived that feeling again with the G5222. The fact that it is more than reasonably priced is nice, but hearing all the accolades about the guitar and listening to the sound, I just might have my next guitar in mind. I will only allow myself to have five, as I can get carried away buying sometimes, and there is one spot left; for a Gretsch? The Gretsch name brings back to me a very wonderful time in rock and roll music, the 60’s Rock ‘N Roll British Invasion. It was a time when you couldn’t wait for that next new song to come out, or the next new band with a brand new sound!
I’m pleased with my 5220. It’s very resilient! Accidentally falling off the stand and nothing happened! You won’t be disappointed!
Incredible sounding guitars. Great to see you guys to
I had no intention of buying a Gretsch until I saw one in a dope color picked it up and loved playing it for every second
Lees playing is now a different level ! Well done sir !
impressive what touch of theory and THEN jamming with great players can do even after 20 years playing ...
G5222 is my favorite. The sound like post rock video got me interested in the G5220 (ended up buying it) and that natural finish and tone of the G5222's got me wanting to get one of them too lol
im 15 and Malcolm was and remains my hero since i was 4 or 5. Hes the reason i chose to play rhythm guitar so that double jet looks like an amazing option for me
The Gretsch G5222 Electromatic is such an amazing guitar and sounds awesome when you put the treble on
daaaaaamn. I haven't been watching your videos for a while (just busy) but Lee has gotten some SKILLS! Keep up the ripping!
Hands down Lee, that is the best guitar tone on this or any channel I watch this year..👍
I have two Gretsch Electromatic FSR Double Jets. A Gold w/Bigsby B-Tops V/T/3 way and a Surf Blue HT with Filtertrons. They play beautifully, look stunning and each has a distinctive sound. Two of my favorites of all.
I met you two and Chappers and Bea at NAMM in January. I was chuffed!
If Lee likes it, it has to be great. Nice to see the enthusiasm from you fellas. There wasn't much "gain" to be played when I started in 1958, but, it seems we (bands) had to play it relentlessly from the 60's on through today. I have been tired of gain ever since then. I don't hear gain when I think of Gretch. Maybe on another video, we could hear the musical cleans sounds of Gretch. Maybe we could remove some midrange from the e.q. (alot). Thanks however for this review that most players will enjoy! Lee, we still have to hear you play every Blues song ever written in one video! Glad to see you back there...
I literally just ordered that Malcom Young look alike g5222. Can’t wait to get it in my hands. This video, amongst a few others, convinced me to pull the trigger.
I recently picked up a G5222 and for it's price point, it's incredible. Hell for any price point it is incredible!
Lee: Awesome tone right to the bones. Nice phrasing in the intro..
You guys having me wanting that G5222 so bad!
That G5222 sounds great. They all do! But wow, the price couldn't be more perfect.
Great tone on these guitars. Makes me want to buy one.
Not watched an Andertons vid for awhile. Good to see how much the Cap has improved!
Thanks guys..you made me buy ANOTHER guitar..just bought the 5222..and just bought a fender player plus..every time I watch your reviews I buy a guitar..but thanks for doing these demos..they really help a lot…
It's videos like this where I really see how far Lee has come with his playing (with help frome Pete) ;)
That intro jamming ALONE is worth a like!!
I have a Double Jet on the way. This review makes me very happy. I picked it up because of Malcom to be honest when I saw the natural finish but im so pleased its a great guitar now. You have to wonder about that for under $500. It has a spot open next to my SG when it arrives.
I could listen to you guys jam all day.
I regularly play a vintage 1963 Gretsch Double Cut Duojet for work and have tried out the top end Malcolm reissue. The new one is closer than I thought it would be. Almost an acoustic guitar as the block in the center stops around the bridge and the top floats freely from there. Mine is practically a banjo. It has the sparkle drum covering on maple that moves like CRAZY. It is louder acoustically than my 335. These new all solid PAUL LIKE Electromatic Jets are not the same category. They are solid body Gibson style guitars with Ray Butts designed pickups that take them out of the Gibson category (once plugged in) with their top end sparkle and zero mud. They are a great first guitar for a student who wants to get good and can't decide between PAFs or Tele pickups yet. They are great back up guitars...and yes, they are great "character" guitars for your tour... if you break one, you won't cry about replacing it. If you are watching this and drool over real old school 6120s, best to look past the cosmetics and learn about "trestle bracing" vs open bracing and urethane vs nitro before you buy. If you are a hard core AC/DC Malcolm fan, you want that hollow quality in the higher priced model. He set his amps pretty low gain and the fatness you hear is that nearly-hollow guitar with the filtertron. It also feels right for those Malcolm riffs. Fun video, guys. Skøl!
I'm not allowed another guitar, but if I could this'll be it, and it's no money. Best I've ever heard Lee play.
The blackboard to the left reads "Electromatic" in the open shot, but "Streamliner" in the Captain's close ups. I see what you did there post- production guy!
I have a Fairlane blue 5420t and I simply adore it. Cheers!
I really like the sound Cap got at the beginning of this video.
Wow, Lee's playing has come on leaps and bounds.
Best solo I have ever heard from the Captain!
Stellar video, as always. Entertaining and informative 😎
Great intro, guys! Great playing, great guitars!
Really really nice jam, guys.
The Captain's playing has come so far! That intro solo was awesome!
"Rat Rods" are hot rods for guys and gals who want a more" bare bones "approach. Some"Rat Rods" are bare metal, some are peeled paint, and lacquered rust, some have full paint albeit flat non-gloss The Gretsch is "reflective "of this aesthetic (No Pun Intended) ! "Rat Rods" are the ride of choice for the Rockabilly's."Rat Rod" car shows, always have Rockabilly bands, ideally with period correct type instruments. The white Gretsch is perfect for your "Rockabilly Guitar Slinger".and is a great re-interpretation of "Fifties " Gretsch Guitars.
Awesome, I just bought a G5222 Electromatic and looking forward to blasting out some AC/DC on it!!
Duo-Jets, single cut, double cut, filter Tron, Dynasonic (my fave) - don’t matter. They’re all wizard. I’ve had many Gretsches and liked them all, but I fell in love with a single cut, black, Dynasonic (single coil) DJ with a Bigsby. I’ve played lots of Les Pauls and have three, a ’54 Goldtop, a 2001 reissue ’59 Burst with real PAFS in it and a recent re-issue custom shop SG. They’re all great, but the DJ blows them all away. Lee, I’m with you on this one and not at all surprised.
Buy one got it today, it’s absolutely fantastic sound, got the grey blue one
You're a guitar monster Pete!
Love your work.
Looks like the tracking bar at the bottom of the video has been updated. Nice!
Wow, Cap. Very tasteful lead. Moving up in the pecking order. Nice job.
Like for the intro jam alone. Well done gents!
Lee has always been the most lyrical and melodic guitar player in the bunch. Personally I think he's got the most raw talent and the best feel.
Exactly ! Sure, pretty much everyone in the videos is more skillful and probably has more practice under the belt, but whenever Lee plays it just resonates with the soul, gives me goosebumps all the time.
You guys kicked it on that jam....wicked tone out of those Gretsch's and at those prices a guitarist can get 3 or 4 different Gretsch models for the price of one Gibson Les Paul. That's exactly what I did! love these Gretsch guitars.
I’ve fallen hard for Gretsch’s lately. I have two, a hollow and a solid (ish) and they are addictive. They got them so right it’s astonishing.
Just bought a Gretsch G5420TG Electromatic from you guys and its absolutely top quality in tone and build quality. I'm very very happy with it and it just ROCKS!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘 Only other guitar that I have been super impressed with recently when first trying was a Yamaha Revstar! Might have to purchase that pedal that Lee using as well👍 although a Gretsch G6134T-58 Vintage Select White Penguin is also on my shopping list😁
Just bought an (almost) new epi last week (it's a late 2019 right before the inspired by gibson line) and have to agree with you on the quality being overhauled, it plays amazing and even better than my other epi that's just a few years older.
I finally got my hands on a G5220; absolutely fantastic playing and sounding guitar. The jade grey metallic is beautiful too.
Just got the g5222 in jade grey metallic. So excited for it to arrive.
