- What does a sewing machine, a fan, and an old roller blade have in common? They all got used to create a rotary guitar speaker.

So in the end, it is a sewing machine case speaker! I once made a cardboard box to howse the guts of a push button phone for our daughters to use. It didn’t one out quite like I expected; it came out way better! We and all of their friends called it “the cardboard phone.” Hmmm. I wonder where it got to?
Well done, the baffle could use a scoop to better direct the sound. You will get a more pronounced doppler effect if you have the box closed off on 3 of the 4 sides.
Great job! That thing is really cool. I didn’t realize the motor in a sewing machine was so beefy and noisy. It’s so the opposite when someone quietly sewing away on a working one.
It’s been a while since your last video..great to see you posting again! ✌️🙂
Thanks! That second baby will do that...
Yo! I’ve been looking at videos all week of DIY Rotarys! Thank you!
I’ve had plans to build one for a while. Could I build my take/response on it?
Build away!
It's missing the treble horn
I feel like cutting a hole in the cover, adding some grill cloth, and somehow integrating the power switch and jack would be a really cool next step. This is so cool!
Yeah I really debated that for awhile, but then you can't see everything move...haha
Very creative and ingenious! Looking forward to more of our content. Thank you.
That was a beautiful sewing machine.
Like a Leslie speaker. Glad your channel is back. Helped me build my first studio rack a couple years back.
Awesome build! I've always wanted to build a DIY rotary speaker. This is quite a practical way to do it, nice work!
I love your channel man! Thank to you I’ve made my big 1x12 guitar cabinet! Mathis one sounds sooo good! I would love to see the next version! I’m sure you’re gonna make another one ;)
Ridiculously cool! Well done!
Awesome work, keep it up!
Great project💪 makes me want to build my own
Try closing three sides.
Impressive skills.
Love it!
Awesome!!
Dude .... You are a genius. A madman with amazing ideas. I need to be your friend. That would be awesome. Lol. I need a few tools a disc sander, a band saw and a lathe. Even your smaller lathe in this video was cool too. Did you make that? :) I love your channel brother. And the fact that it's musically relative is even better.
Since you have completed the project you might have satisfied your creative itch, but I would like to recommend that you adapt this to a larger speaker, say a 12"
Nice work, btw
Hell yeah
Is there a part two? Id love to see a second iteration with more detail hahaha
Same
Merwins music! Fantastic video!!! I want to build one. I have a few questions regarding the dimensions of the box.
Did you ever experiment more with this? I'm thinking about doing this kind of thing with a 12" speaker. I feel like if you covered more of the speaker with a round base and had a horn like exit you'd get more effect from it. Great project though!
Never thought of this....
Умницв! Я очень рад что у тебя получилось сделатт leslie
Nice build, great idea😁 🤔crimp first, solder later🧐 not vv 🤐
Can you go over your rack equipment in a video. Please thank you. I have the same tape recorder.
How did you wire the foot pedal to the new motor? :)
Poor old sewing machine!
Didn"t you find an other old motor?
Sewing mashines are so sophisticated devices!
Hello could you help me? I have a 5 watt tube laney cub8 amplifier and I want to make a cabinet with a 12 "speaker, what specifications should this speaker have regarding my amplifier? Thank you very much in advance!
😮
Why didn't you use the sewing machine pedal to control the speed?
How did you find/fit the motor belt?
You are ready for a lathe . The longer you wait the more you will need it.

How's the speed control work?
With the sewing machine pedal. Off when not pressed to full speed all the way down.
@@MerwinMusic cool! So the shaded pole motor responds well too the sewing machine pedal? Guess I'll be adding some items to my junk wish list 😁
You forgot the treble horn!
What you have made is NOT a rotary speaker it does not sound anything like a Leslie ...the speaker in your contraption does NOT rotate Many years ago I built a true Leslie type speaker where the speaker was built into the side of a drum that had a shaped port it was driven by a record player motor the whole thing rotated and gave a true Leslie sound...there is another way of getting the Leslie sound some old upright electonic organs ,Yamaha for example had a Leslie speaker built in I have such a unit somewhere I must find it ...kind regards from the U.K.
The speakers themselves don't rotate in a Leslie either. The biggest difference between this and a Leslie is a Leslie has two sets of rotating baffles to create more warble than just wah wah. This is basically a mini Fender Vibratone but less people know what that is.
