Funny--I have 15 Woody Shaw recordings but not this one. Seems like one of his best. What a great musician. Got to see him in 1977 at a night club in Massachusetts with Clint Houston and Carter Jefferson.
Saw Woody in 77 at a college pub, he was at the height of his trumpet/jazz technical and inventive soling…I was blown away, but was too young to fully appreciate
He came to our sectional rehearsal the next morning…he was a special s-ecial dude.He deserved a better end to his life.
I still try to play like him…
he was actually at his height years earlier -- but he was still very good to the end
@@brianhammer5107 well if ur referring G to he was at his height in 60 s over the 70 s Woody
That is highly debatable
60s Woody tasty control
70 s Woody.. Explosión of notes and Solidifying his Vertical Trumpet improves... At which he is credited to being the master
One of the most beautiful and contemporary use of the small ensemble in Jazz music.
This is Woody's best album on Muse Records. Everybody plays great. This large ensemble led him into his best work as an artist, which is his recordings on Columbia Records.
um, NO - his best work was with Larry Young, and on the "Blackstone Legacy" album - there is one good Columbia album, "III"
Man, love this album. Thank you for sharing. 🙏
Man I love Woody Shaw.... I once owned this wondrous album on LP until I tragic lost it... I love everything about this record, thank you for uploading.
Awesome album!! Love that jazz

This is the shit!!!
👍🏿
Luckily for me I did get to see Woody Shaw once in NYC at a summer jazz festival. one of the highlights of my musical life. Seeing Billy Harper play the same day was cake too. Life was good.
You're so lucky!
0:00 Hello To The Wind + 16:47 Obsequious + 26:28 Jean Marie + 36:02 In The Land Of The Blacks (Bilad As Sudan)
Very useful; thank you for taking the time!
It's crazy how good and deeply this touches me... Bernie, you and Muse have brought light to the darkness & I thank you for it.
This performance is just an ensemble. Woody's flugel and cornet are both brilliant as well as gentle. Especially, I love Woody's start from the ensemble in Jean Marie.
Woody is killing
I guess Woody played the flugel on #1 and #3, the trumpet or cornet on #2 and #4.
