Hidden Messages in Every Mario Game

- Hey guys happy MAR10 Day! I have a really cool video for you all where I go over some extremely hidden messages in every single Super Mario entry. In Super Mario Sunshine, if you go to the windmill early and talk to the pianta standing at the base, he says something like "You're a little early. isn't there something else you should be taking care of first?"
This also happens with the Sphynx in Super Mario Oddysey. Instead of asking his questions, he asks "Shouldn't you be doing something else?" and he doesn't talk to you after until you save Peach. Quite a good detail that Nintendo included.

Fun fact: In the 3D All-Stars version of 64, Bowser's 120 star message changes "Control Stick" to "L Stick"

Of note in the Turtle Zone secret in Mario Land 2, the first letter of blocks starts out as a W. Busting the blocks in the middle and revealing the hidden blocks changes it to an M.

Also, when you finish Super Mario Odyssey the first time, after the Credits roll, there is a message at the end saying "Thank you for playing" and Mario verbally saying "Thank you so much for playing my game."
The star statue in SM64 is supposed to say eternal star, but since everyone wanted Luigi in the game, thats what everyone believes. Also, I really don't think that theres a hidden message in the galaxy logos abd it was completely random.
In Sunshine, the book was supposed to be what you were supposed to find for the mission, but got scraped and changed to a red coin mission but the model of the book was already made.
In Odyssey, during the New Donk City Festival, there the final 2D panel on the City Hall is a replica of the original Donkey Kong game and the coins in that area spell out DK.
My favorite was when you beat Darker Side in Odyssey and Cappy has this whole monologue about how far we've come together... It took me 2 years to beat the game so it truly did feel like a journey and it was kinda sweet
in NSMBDS there's technically another (not quite as hidden) message. If you get to the end credits the screen will have a button combination put around the screen in the background (i think it's on the bottom screen), put in around the screen that lets you play as luigi when you boot up a save file by doing it (L + R + A)
I just assume you didn't bring it up since it's a lot more known than the challenge mode one.
I was told that the book from sunshine was originally gonna be a mission where you had to collect it and give it to an old man, but got scratched last minute.

I know you only cover mainline games, but you could find one very interesting hidden message in the original Paper Mario. You could find Luigi's diary there, and he not only mentioned that he wants to go on an adventure on his own, but also how terrified he is of ghosts. This was in 2000, more than one year before the original Luigi's Mansion was released (but was probably already in development).
At the end of Galaxy 2 a Luma says a bunch of playstation icons that I never understood

There actually was another Easter egg in Super Mario 3D Land. That being a somewhat figure of a ghost at the end of Ghost house 4-4 if you sit by the 16:02 fence behind the flag pole for about 20 seconds. In Japan the number 4 is unlucky so I see why they put it there. Over all it’s not really a message but it’s still cool.
One of the most obscure hidden messages is in Yoshi's Story, where there are letters made of coins that only appear when you are under the effect of a Heart Fruit. Every level in the game has one hidden letter. When put together, they spell out YOU ARE YOSHIS GREAT PARTNER.

By far, my favorite one is the thank you message from Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels
You missed a "3" reference in SMB3. The landmass where you find the castle in World 3 is shaped like Japan. Also, in the GBA version, one of the 3s that appears in 5-1 is swapped out for a 4, referencing the fact that it's the fourth Super Mario Advance.

I deep dived on the noki noki book years ago. I found it before youtube was really a thing. If you use your hover nozzle at just the right spot in that level, you can clip through that wall and touch the book. Touching the book does nothing, its just a texture
NSMBU doesn't have a thank you message to my knowledge, but Luigi U contains one, complete with a carboard cutout of Luigi riding Yoshi with the face removed so you can your character in it's place.
Where do you get those character renders for your thumbnails? You always use lots of ones that I've never seen before.

The message in mario 64 is actually a place holder as it's in ocarina of time
in SML2 in Mario Zone , go to the cap and go as right as you can to find N&B, the pre-nintendo company fighting against L.E.G.O
You are correct with the book in sunshine, You were originally gonna get the book and bring it back for the star, however they changed it into a red coin mission.

The book was part of a mission originally i think. You would have had to collect the book for the Noci elder (I think) but it was later changed into a red star mission. The assets were just never removed.
May not have a meaning but if you warp to world 5 in Super Mario Bros. and beat the castle, you will find a bag with 5 toads inside
The book was actually from a scrapped mission that you were supposed to bring the book back to its owner
If im not mistaken, the book in the bottle was somehow supposed to be the main focus of that mission, instead of red coins

I put so much effort when I was like 8-11 in Super Mario 64 to get all 120 stars and I was a little disappointed just to get extra lives. Then my little nephew ended up deleting my save file not too long after I got all 120 I was so upset lol.

I think the Super Mario Galaxy one is just people speculating and making something up that was never a secret or hidden message to begin with. People wanted to believe and see things that aren't there so hard that it was a secret message but it's really not. It was just unintentional thing with star sparkles on bits of the text by whoever made the logo for the game not thinking at the time.

10:10 while we do know now that Luigi was in the game files somewhere, as far as the statue goes, somebody actually wrote a letter to Nintendo asking about it, and their response was that it was just there to troll people

"L is real" is a reused asset from ocarina of time. It is just a generic sign.
the sign in ocarina is reused from mario 64. 64 came out 2 years before ocarina
