- čas přidán 14. 06. 2015
- "Euronaut" is a private project of a research and diver support submarine around Carsten Standfuss - a German naval architect. It has been designed between 1988 and 2000. Then it took another 12 years to build it on holidays, weekends and after work. Most systems on board are second hand and homebuilt.
The sub has overall length of 16 m (52 ft), surface displacement of 57 tons and is capable of diving up to 250 m (820 ft).
Transit speed is up to 6 knots with a 190 hp diesel engine. Electric drive measures 40 kW.
The life support system provides air for the crew of six persons for a week. The diving chamber allows saturation dives to the depths similar to the operational depth of the submarine.

that probably feels so good, just sitting on that thing and thinking "I built this"
that woulf be so cool
Connor yes
look into "journeyman boilermaker" if you want to build pressure vessels.
Thats what she said.
The feel of accomplishment indeed
there are no words to say how amazing this is. everyone is under the impression only navies have this and for a team to build something soo good is a monumental achievement. these guys should be honored by their country. for generations to come
oh, oh my that sentance hasn't aged well.
@@themanformerlyknownascomme777why?
A 16 m long vessle, capable of diving up to 250 m is NOt what I would call an amateur project :DD
Hier könnte Ihre Werbung stehen There is nothing amateur about it . The difference with others is that it was made with privet money and effort with love , to add icing to the cake nothing German made is amateur period.
Well, it is german so what did. you expect? My first guess was 80 ish meters
So what sort of legalities and permits must someone require an ascertained for item like this and what limits are there are to stop people from doing things that they shouldn't do do because it seems to me then that if if a group of enthusiasts with private money and access to the White Facilities can you build this then surely we have enough money they could build something slightly bigger they wanted to 4 for various purposes
The Art of German Engineering was never lost.
@@brickleyyard4966 you sound like a fun person
What the world needs is a military size submarine with windows and scientific instruments that has enough room for scientists to live on fairly comfortable for months at at time so they can study the ocean and the great depths for long periods at a time.
Rest of the world: "In my spare time, I like to watch movies and have a walk with my dog"
German people: "In my spare time I build 16m long submarine"
Not "German people" its a German dude...
@@mbukukanyau I'm making fun of Germans. All the people with the German nationality don't know how to have fun if it's not by working. You know, the good ol' joke about them. Like, it's a pretty comon thing for Germans to build a submarine.
Using "German people", is a kind of emphasis : The people of Germany as one entity, share a common hobby, building submarines in theyr spare time.
I'm not a native english speaker, after all. So maybe, what I tryed to say in my joke, have better way to express it, and my kind of emphasis is not working as I intended.
@@jbdallara Don't even bother explaining a joke to a German, because unlike with high-precision engineering they don't do well with jokes....
I am impressed that they actually had an airlock that a diver could use to go into the water and then return to the submarine without compromising the submarine.
Meanwhile I cant get my kitchen faucet to stop leaking
nourtaher86 yeah..really i cant finish my golf cart
The best privately owned sub I've ever seen.
It is also the best private submarine ever seen
Roger Gomes and this Nautilus?
@@Nordlicht05 Well the Nautilus was sure Astonishing it was still Designed withsomething Completely else in Mind
I would hardly call that an amateur build ha
+rich r, actually you are right. These are professionals in related fields, but noone earns his money with submarine building. Some parts like pressure hull are professionaly made. On other hand the rest is homebuilt, low-tech or second hand. Noone got money for it. What is it then, when not amateur?
+Deep Blue Sea This is just a home build project.
Haha (home build project) like it could be built in your backyard or garage? If that's the home build then I would really want to see the pro built version.
You won't believe. :) After steel work was done, the sub actually DID stand in the owner's backyard. Since the house stood right next to Weser river. All the interior and exterior job have been done there during 10 years prior to the launch.
My neighbors would absolutely kill me if I had something like that at my house. He is lucky
Wow, I can't even fathom the engineering minds that went into building this. Great job
This vessel looks like a real sub built by a navy! This is an incredible achievement for a private team! I salute you!
That is bloody amazing.
germans are some of the best engineers
Possibly THE best engineers. While the Italians have got some sexy super cars.
Scotland has some of the best Liners
They invented guided missiles
NZT Photography and square sausage
Who’s invented the best world changing inventions and medical sciences Germany or Britain???
wait, how in the world has this only got 288 likes? This thing is absolutely amazing! My Grandfather was a tin-smith and moonshine still maker in the applachian mountains. I remember one night he woke me up (drunk on moonshine) and told me that he was building me my personal submarine.... I was like 5 years old. I waited for years without daring pester him about the progress he was making.... Eventually I realized grandpa was a big drunk and probably forgot by the next morning hahaha.... Definitely makes my day to see people who actually got their sub, even if they built it themselves :-)
+Photography Photography haha nice man
And I thought my projects took long! This gives me a huge burst of hope!
this is the closest thing to what I imagine I'd have if I had my own submarine.
I've followed this project on a different site when Carsten was just getting going. It's quite amazing to see it in action.
Imagine the changes in technology from when they started building it to when they finally launched it!
just like svseeker
Absolutely amazing!!! One of the coolest projects I've ever seen. A great example of ingenuity and the human spirit.
Awesome! What an amazing feeling it would be, seeing your own submarine diving for the first time! Huge kudos to the builders.
Unbeschreiblich...ich habe noch NIE in meinem ganzen leben so etwas professionelles gesehen, was von "Laien" (nehmt's mir nicht übel:-)) gebaut wurde und 250m Tauchtiefe...RESPEKT!!!!!
Thanks for the whacko music. It was a great time dancing to it.
I wonder if you have scared any navies thinking it was an enemy sub!
No idea. I don't think they mentioned us a lot since we don't have identical operation areas.
+Deep Blue Sea ahh ok, thats good! Do you have any ways of making sure it doesnt happen?
Nothing. I Don't think that's a problem
Deep Blue Sea oh ok. Keep doing what you are! Greetings from America!
Thanks!
"Amateur built.." , na, I'd say that, in order to put this together with such quality, they are certainly not "amateurs".
If you don't get paid to do it, you are an amateur. It's not a reflection on quality of work, just a simple matter of where the funding is coming from.
Germans can build any thing given enough time.
+taiming71 (except high MPG, clean diesels)
+kevin mcmillen *badumtss*
+taiming71 With that kinda logic even I could do anything given enough time!
+romthewarrior What do the extermination camps have to do with a team consisting of Germans, Dutch and Ukrainians?
+Deep Blue Sea They have to do with the previous comment. But it's a joke dude. Hat off to the the team btw
These guys know what their doing, nice job.
Virtuosi Genius ...Bravo... The Germans were always the best U-Boat builders... Unbelievable skill and craftwork...Sail On Sail On.
I wouldnt say best, America has consistently outpaces every nation in the world when it comes to submarine warfare.
Deep Blue Sea, you guys are an inspiration to millions. Hope you know that. Big fan of German ingenuity. Kudos from the United States
So much admiration for dedicated engineers ,what a project ,I think your fantastic ,well done !
Well done to all those involved in the action.
Project awesome!
Well done again to this special team
That boot is amazing .
Wow, incredible dive depth!

Think you're right.
That's so sick! I want one. The porthole in the bottom reminds me of the Nautilus and 1000 leagues under the sea!
Love this submarine, the blue color looks fantastic.
Excellent project....WOW....congratulations...must be most gratifying!
Its a beauty, you guys. I'm awestruck by the professional finesse and the size of the behemoth.
Kudos to friendship, kudos to workmanship, science of accumulating knowledge, sweat, hard labour and perseverance. You guys must've started out prior to the internet revolution.
I never miss a submarine movie, seen them all, though I've never been in one. I'm from India, I've never even seen one for real. Good one, I'm touched.
Beautiful. Now we need this in space.
You guys are amazing that's something to be proud of
Thats awesome! Congratulations on Finishing it and an amazing Aquatic Ride!
Awesome build fellas, my hats off to you all for creativity and innovation and meticulous attention to detail. Could not help but notice that any of these that are being "Sea Trailed",,,seem to be shadowed by Naval ships. Interesting. Saying good job does not come close!
Randy Winner It's busy in those waters and it border's The Kingdom of the Netherlands to the West and The Kingdom of Denmark to North of The Republic of Germany.
To the North-West sits The Kingdom of Norway, the North-East sits The Kingdom of Sweden, all have their Royal Navy's going up and down the Scandinavian Sea to the Wadden-Sea into the North-Sea.
Not to mention all kinds of ships going trough there from the Republic of Poland and of course from the Russian Federation.
Try and float a dingy there and it will attract the attention of a plethora of different Navy's,....not to mention operating a submarine there commercial or otherwise.
Beautiful sub - looks like a very complicated engineering project.
Fantastic job gentlemen very inspiring!
Excellent example of ingenuity, well done
"Amateur" doesn't seem at accurate at all. 'Private' would have better described this venture.
The only thing they didn't made them selfs, was the hull/hull welding, because it's the most critical thing, so they let professionals do that and also x-ray the welds. All this information can also be found on their website ;)
Aw sweet, Mirrors Edge.

Had this urge to go running after watching this video....
I thought the same...
Very satisfying achievement, well done guys
Its a real work of art from every aspect.

Master builder, This is amazing.
Hugely impressive! Bravo!
This is amazing and wonderful project!.... I'm fascinated... CONGRATULATIONS!!!.....
DAS BOOT!
Awesome cool!
The cartels in Latin America would pay you guys big money to build a fleet of these for them.
Amazing build. Makes me very proud of my German heritage.
Think about it...
In Germany a couple of amateur enthusiasts design and build a fully functional submarine over a period of 24 years and is better than any submarine in the North Korean fleet.
Congratulations!
It's wonderful !! Congratulations !!
Wow great piece!!
That is absolutely epic. I would kill to be part of a project like that.
This video came out on my birthday so it’s awesome to see something like this :)
Its so great to watch this, well done man.it can be used for rescue in bad weather at sea or underwater👍
Damn it took 10 years to build! Good job
Stunning!
Love this. Amazing stuff from clever people.
Well done lads.
Really amazing accomplishment!. lol at naval vessels keeping an eye on them
well, those naval vessels have to justify their income somehow. Furthermore, god forbid if ever accord a shooting war, the navy needs to be able to distinguish a friendly/natural submarine from an enemy one.
@@Mthammere2010 Were already capable of identifying any and all surface or submerged contacts using nothing more than passive sonar.
@@DeagleGamesTV but this thing is only one and built recently they wouldn't be able to identify it submerged and 30 km away they would be confused of the new prop sound unless they see it on the surface which they already did
Very great work!
Wow, looked great runs great! Want one!
great submarine..
great video..
I'm enjoying the Mirror's Edge music.
Amazing Project!

Fantastic and a credit to all who participated! But I agree with the comment below, far from amateur in any shape or form.
A masterpiece.
Ein geniales Projekt und meinen ganz großen Respekt vor der Arbeit! Wie tief habt ihr euch schon getraut damit?
How can you make a submarine and not make it yellow...
