Dance in New York City: The New Vogueing Scene

- In New York City, a new group of dancers keeps the city’s legendary vogue scene on the map.
Vogueing began as an imitation of models in fashion magazines and on runways. It is part communal tradition, part competition, part personal statement. And occasionally it surfaces as a mainstream pop-culture phenomenon, too. Vogueing first strutted into the mainstream in the early ’90s with Jennie Livingston’s documentary “Paris Is Burning” and the music video for Madonna’s “Vogue.”

It always amazes me when people get upset about stuff like this. First, it takes an incredible level of fitness and coordination to dance. Second, they arent hurting you, so leave them be!
Hi, David. Can you help me understand what you consider a perversion in this?
I doubt that people get upset about stuff like this.
David Williams How calling things other people do a perversion makes anything happier?
they all look like theyre being Mr Peepers + Mango
It's called a dip, period. It's not called a death drop AT ALL.
Jordan Branch let the straight people call it a death drop
Not entirely true. Actually there are different types of dips: box, hairpin, kansai, makevelli (aka suicide dip), scorpion, etc. As far as that death drop business goes, some ballroom kids in The South coined that term in vogue dramatics 20 years ago to compliment a well executed suicide dip. It was meant to be a cute way to talk up someone's performance but was never a technical term. It spread out West and was eventually disseminated into mainstream popular culture via television. So yeah - a very specific type of dip WAS referred to as a "death drop" as a compliment but was NEVER synonymous for all dips.
Seeing the mom vogue with her son😍😍😍😭
I sooo admire the physical endurance and physical strength of all these people. ♡
I love the personal expression that each dancer brings. I hope this form of dance always has an outlet!
Soft dip looks so good yessss
I was taught that there is no deathdrop! Its called a dip!
right me to.
Who started that term deathdrop I wonder??
@@kekwayblaze3176 I think it's attributed to drag queens, like on RuPaul's show and others
@@layma5113 The phrase has been in use long before Ru Paul's show ever mentioned it. "Death Drop" was originally just commentary used to compliment a dip, specifically one in Dramatics executed with great height. The phrase was in use long before RuPaul's show started mentioning it. The mainstream has since picked up on and completely misused and abused it; I guess because it's "catchy" and easy to remember.

Man Vogueing truly is an art. It is the art of making the most physically aggressive and obnoxious movements *without* creating a legal justification to get your face bashed in.
This clown is mad about a dance 😂
Hahahaha hahaha hahhhhhhh hhhhhh hahahaha hahahaha
How did I end up here
Jun Seba god led you there
There are many gray shades in the world, but dances do not apply to them, because even the dance of death is already just black, but by no means gray ...
I bet the guy at 3:02 doesn‘t even know who AC/DC are...
I don’t like this vogue style new way I like the old school style better
society has touched it's new low..
the low of people insulting other peoples happiness still goes lower everyday I see

That’s cute they paint these people as an accepting community 🤭
It is.

Braulder Braulder who are "these people"???
@elephant: these 'people'.
And it has to be black always??
They need to *REPENT* and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can deliver a person from sin and darkness.
What dancing?
Then I hope he delivers you to a better place than hating on these innocent people
