    To adjust the idle you need to use a jumper in the service port box, pre OBD2 models. All clean out idle valve as someone has also mentioned.

    Mine was doing exactly the same thing. Turns out that I had left the throttle position sensor unplugged when I was cleaning the throttle body. So definitely check your TPS is within specs before doing anything else.

    I have since found that there can be other problems and that adjusting the idle screw is only masking it.i cleaned the idle senser valve and found that it runs better and there are probable more reasons and the mass air flow is worth cleaning to as it does not cost much but a can of mass air flow cleaner.the early ones have a vane that I don't think can be cleaned

    I have a 92 and my tps has 4 pins in it how do I test that because what you described is just 3 pins. My issue is when I put the AC on or go from park to reverse or drive it almost stalls and shakes bad.

    My iddle switch only triggers when moving the iddle slightly. Full throttle test fails. I get nothing. I have the high iddle problem. What do you think??

      Hopefully you've figured it out by now, but there are a few other things that can cause a high idle.
      1: Your throttle body butterfly had the plastic seal cleaned off during a throttle body cleaning. To remedy this, you need to adjust the throttle butterfly stop screw. This can be see from above and behind the throttle body, and is a screw that physically stops the butterfly from closing too far. It is close to where the throttle cable connects to the round spring loaded part. You need to break the nut on it loose, then adjust it using an allen key from the front. Note that this stop is calibrated and painted to seal it in place from the factory, but if your plastic seal on the butterfly was cleaned off, you need to adjust it. You may need to adjust your throttle position sensor as shown in this video after adjusting this stop screw.
      2: There is a small restrictor inside the valve cover breather hose that goes from the driver's side of the valve cover to the chrome pipe on the front of the valve cover. If you replaced this breather hose, the new one did not come with this restrictor in it, which will cause a high idle. You can cut the restrictor out of the old hose or buy one from a Mazda dealer. The part number for this restrictor is B61P13986 and the orientation it is installed in the breather hose does not matter.
      3: Some sort of vacuum leak. Air may be getting into the intake system after the mass air flow sensor. Look for cracked pipes or missing covers.

      @Augownage Před 9 měsíci +1

      Also a note, the restrictor in the breather hose only applies to 1.6 Miatas (90-93 in US)

    What should be the output voltage of the air flow meter at idle

    • @Username-ng8jy
      @Username-ng8jy Před 2 lety

      ?? Resistance you mean? You’re on a 12V system. Do voltage is 12V
      Resistance. Usually changes on sensors as they’re thermistors.

    Whats a spec miata?

    • @TheZProtocol
      @TheZProtocol Před 5 lety +2

      Spec Miata is a Miata racecar compilant to race in the Spec Miata series. Engine, transmission and differential is basically stock. You get to change the suspension, brakes, wheels and tires as well as safety stuff is required. You could still have a street legal Spec Miata racecar depending on the State inspection requirements.

    my miata does the same thing..high idle so it never really stalls which is good but i wasnt sure the idle was normal at 1500..i want a solution not a hack to mask the problem..also its choking..like if i try to rev it up it will choke almost to stalling then slowly go back up to 1500..not a problem with granny driving but..cant rev match );

    • @TheZProtocol

      Have you figured out what was the problem? My '90 is doing just that and I can't seem to find the cause after 5 weeks. I tested just about everything

      I have a 90 miata. I replaced almost everything on this car it's doing the same. So I replaced the tps sensor it jercks when you let off and on the throttle.

    FYI Miata are on a open loop system u cant adjust idle, injectors none of that learn before you have someone mess up there car
