- This video runs through a recent Cutaway that I had. A typical common cutaway with a tension not on a 74 Leia. In this clip I talk about various possibilities that can happen and talk about my cutaway procedure, Sky hook/no Skyhook and why I do what I do.
Awareness and a clear head are key when dealing with difficult situations.

Super good explanation, to be able to always be attentive, and ask to react correctly in a situation of a parachute malfunction. Thank you very much for sharing.
Booked my first skydive (AFF) for next month after years of thinking about getting into the sport and I am super stoked about it! It's great to hear some honest reviews on very serious situations with no BS. Obviously I have no idea about failure scenarios yet but thank you taking the time to upload this and it has given me a lot of peace of mind.
Good advice Mason. Since last weekend I've found myself quite current in mals myself :)
I had quite a few reserve twists after my chop on Saturday (RSL) but I'm still personally in the RSL camp as I've seen a pretty experienced guy go in at line stretch on his reserve and I think it's easy to lose altitude awareness in a stressful situation. Like you said, personal preference.
Yeh each to their won hey. It can be easy to push both sides of the story on this one. I think as long as you are clear of both of the outcomes and create your own extra Procedures that you are clear about for situations both non and RSL can work well. Up to the person.
thanks dude!
Let's the bodies hit the ....FLOOOOOOOR
I have 2.500 jumps and had 7 chops so far. I too prefer not having rsl for exact same reason. I do same thing with pinkys, but I prefer to peel off both handles before choping and being "loaded" to pull reserve, because in my first chop I had difficulty in peeling off under freefall after cutting away and it took me alarmingly long time. Obviously I must be prepared to stabilize with arms tucked in.
Yeh I did that once too, but be careful as you may chute your reserve into your main if the reserve hand slips first for some reason. Id still have the hands on both tho as well. it can be scary as F hey. So don't blame you for doing that process now at all.
