I'd say that might be a white sucker. In my local creek, there are lots of fish that look just like that. I have several videos on my channel of them in their natural habitat. I'm surprised it went into the trap, because the ones in my creek seem to have no interest in the bait. I've always wanted to keep these fish. Hopefully you have success with them.
Yes it is a white sucker they can get very big and they are very difficult in an aquarium they like to school together on the bottoms of creeks along rock ledges or along logs or banks. And they often turn sideways and shine under the water as they jockey for position they do eat small worms but mostly algae
I agree with many of the other commenters the mystery fish are white sucker. I keep a pair of them at home in a Walstad aquarium. As to why they are not lasting for you I couldn't say. They have been going over a year in various set up's I have including the last six months in a filter less Walstad aquarium with no air stone and heated to 24C.
You might consider throwing in alot of extra polyfil in your filter, you seem to have a lot of particles in the water. I'm sure you know this already, just pointing it out
I'm going to have a 50 gallon with no big fish. I'm going to have crayfish which is why is has to be bigger, Minos, snails, clams and some bigger minos/baby fish. To me the fish look like round gobies or at least a close relative
I made it out of hardware cloth and a twisty tie. And yes, I don't know what I was thinking. It's an Eastern Stoneroller. I've had them plenty of times before. Brain fart. Lol
Mostly just what I feed all the other fish (a variety of prepared fish foods) but my sculpin and darter need "prey" so I also feed with bloodworms and brine shrimp and daphnia (Mysis shrimp)
They die because you need to acclimate them with a drip. Chemistry is off. It's also why you have such bad ich. I'm surprised they all don't look like zombies.

I have them to😉
Just caught some pumpkin seeds and a blue gill for my first native tank! Thanks for the inspiration man 👌👌
Pumpkin seeds?
@@removeableskull7446 yah those are a type of sunfish
I agree that it looks like a white sucker...they get a decent size, I rescued a few from a draining pond last summer
I think it's actually an Eastern Stoneroller. They look really similar, but the markings are spot on if you look it up.
yeah i looked it up thats most likely a white sucker...
I was thinking the same :D
I say its a long nose or white sucker.
nice you like p-51's too?
My favourite word war planes are 109s ( especially the K-4s), and the MK II spitfire but the P-51s are pretty good :)
In my creek there are a lot of baby sunfish but I can only manage to get crawdads in it
I would love to have a Native Bowfin tank
I’m starting a native tank with crayfish, mosquitofish, pond snails and madtoms

I used a tortilla wrap and I almost had at least two pounds of minnows
Thats a stone roller I think ?
Why didn't you collect any plants for that tank ?
The crayfish I've caught have always died w/in 24 hrs. I even tried to use water from the same habitat, no luck. Gave up on them.
I kept plenty of crayfish in a cichlid tank lol. Had tons of hiding spots but they lasted many years.

I want one. Fish tanks are so expensive.
My local bait shop used to have those and they called them a northern sucker

Cool video I subbed cant wait to finish up my native tank
that's looking really good Dan!.... love all the native creek fish bro
The sucker fish is commonly called a hogsucker
Been a sub for a while. You're about what my spirit animal would be, if you could choose a fellow natural tank enthusiast for that position.
Looks like a white sucker Dan! As common as they are I've never caught one lol
I can't find any websites about an Eastern Stoneroller, but it looks just like a Central Stoneroller
Maybe you could get a cooler for the tank?
I wish I had a local stream that I could get some native fish from where I live. Very nice tank.
Wow. Hope they survive.
Dan could it be a Roanoke Hog Sucker? www.ncwildlife.org/portals/0/Fishing/Images/Nongame/roanoke_hogsucker.jpg
That's a good guess, but it's an Eastern Stoneroller.

Matt B Im pretty sure that those are just oxygen bubbles form his airstone, but that is definitely not bad advice😉
that's a white sucker i wish i could find a spot with them where i live
if u are in the uk then there gudgeon if not then no clue

Definitely white sucker, get a nice stock of algae wafers and watch them grow!!!!
Are there any trout or Goldshiner or other big fish in that creek plus how many cm is that fish I could try to identify it with measurements
cool video Dan,
keep up good work with native tank.
I have a 55 Ga native tank with a fresh water soft shell Turtle
God Bless My Friend
Could that be a type of stone roller, the one with the sucker type mouth? Does the bait holder come with the trap and if not what do you use?
I made it out of hardware cloth and a twisty tie. And yes, I don't know what I was thinking. It's an Eastern Stoneroller. I've had them plenty of times before. Brain fart. Lol
I figured as much on the eastern stoneroller. I do that alot too.
Maybe catch some diving beetles? Or maybe some tadpoles?
Those are Bell Mouth Sucker Fish I have caught a few of them here in Washington State.
That's a white sucker I have them in my creek as well
That “new” species is just a sucker minnow
I also got my minnow trap stolen once here in Calgary. So if anyone of you reading this is the culprit, REPENT!
Lol
I like your purple thumb nail
Looks like that fish has ich
What up with the painted finger nail
Look up "polished man"
ITS A SUCKER MOUTH MINNOW!!!!!
I believe that fish is just a common chub
Can you catch some snails 🐌 for your native tank?
Sure, but I never think about it when I'm out there. Maybe next trip.
Dan Hiteshew cool it might be interesting
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly i used to have a shellcracker sunfish he loved to eat snails crayfish mussels minnows and tiny salamanders
Hi
Hello.
I started a native tank and I have a question. What do you feed there fish?
Mostly just what I feed all the other fish (a variety of prepared fish foods) but my sculpin and darter need "prey" so I also feed with bloodworms and brine shrimp and daphnia (Mysis shrimp)
Dan Hiteshew thank you so much this info will help
Those fish are northern hog suckers I catch them every now and then
Creek chubs dont like worm water the like it colder
You have ick!
You do
Naw....that’s dandruff.
If you google logperch you’ll be able to see right away that’s not what you have.
Chub
Log perch?
Northern hog nose
I would acclimated them in a bag
it's not a white sucker i got on of those and the mouth is a lot more flat and bottom'ish looking
Coooooool
🤠👍🏻👍🏻
Fall fish maybe
They die because you need to acclimate them with a drip. Chemistry is off. It's also why you have such bad ich. I'm surprised they all don't look like zombies.
My water is almost identical to the stream water. I've tested many many times.
I think thats a white sucker
Dude!! Its a sucker! Not even close to anything like a darter or log perch.
