The carport I put the mill under definitely needs the heavy snow knocked off of it. Its rood pitch is about the same as the greenhouse. The woodshed is doing great. 4/12 pitch with metal roof, the snow accumulates but slides off on its own periodically.

Dry snow slides better. You might have been creating ice.
It was already icy unfortunately. This stuff came down really wet and heavy.
Bill suggests heating cables on the inside of the roof, like those used for ice dams.
Ok now that's an interesting idea.
