How to File Nails Like a Professional Nail Technician

- Hey, guys. So we've got a super super special surprise in this video. We are going to be working with our Polish translation voice actor, MALGORZATA!!! OMG!!! I know a bit of Polish. Jen dobre, that's about it but that's because my dad had a Polish girlfriend at one time!
So, I know you've all been asking for a filing video for a long time and I've listened. I'm going to be showing you five different forms of filing in this video for various different nail shapes; So, first of all, we have a pipe shape; a stiletto; an almond nail; a ballerina and then we have your traditional square nail.
I'm gonna go through each nail and show you how I would file them. So I'm going to be using an 80 grit file and also a 100 grit file. These files should never be used on a natural nail. they are far too coarse. The lower the number, the coarser the file.

The Adventures of Mi I agree with you. If I’m using my e-file it’s because I’m trying to get rid of to much product. If you lay the acrylic like butter their isn’t much to need a drill for. She just taught me so much
Oh yeah. I paid six grand in nail school to get my Washington state education for a nail tech license. We didn't even have a teacher at all. CZcams videos was my education even though I had to go to a school to get the 600hours needed to be able to take the state tests: A Written test and then the practical test. Of course, the tests are $200.00 apiece., so $6400.00 USD for a nail tech education in the USA. I just paid money to sit in a room, read the book, and watch CZcamsrs teach me how to do nails. Thank GOD I found Kirsty!!! She taught me how to do it!! The others never said how to build a nail, just a parade of gel colors after a quick acrylic application without explanation. So I am thankful she does a great detailed examination of every step and procedure. I love her!!!!!

DEFINITELY saving this video for repeated future reference! I'm teaching myself to do my own polygel nails at home and shaping is my biggest problem. There's no better teacher out there!

This is such a great teaching tutorial! Could you do this same type of video but show how you file your own nails on both hands? Since I’m not a licensed nail tech, I only practice on myself and struggle with filing, especially contouring. It’s hard to maneuver the file and/or my hand to get the right angle when filing.

Newbie here- fantastic video! Find holding clients hands right so hard! They fight it- they want to look at everything they pull back. It’s a wrestling match how do you do it without hurting yourself I find I seem to give up and move around them more :/ which I know will cause long term problems so I’m trying to figure out now how to get control without hurting myself or them! Or yelling haha
Your stalleto is always so beautiful. There's another CZcamsr and I won't mention who but I watch her do a set and omg anyone wearing those would need to register their nails as a deadly weapon. They looked so silly and pointed I would be afraid of hurting someone with them.

Kirsty omg, I have rarely loved a person this much. You just (hopefully) helped me SO much with this advice on cuticle, vibration and lifting issue. I have been meticulous in prepping, to the point where I think gosh darnit, if this thing lifts, I will (insert expletive here). I have been filing the free edge first, and cuticle last. I will be trying out cuticle before free edge now, and I am optimistic it will solve some issues. I am still new to nails (been doing it for around 4 months), and luckily I my clients dont usually get horrible lifting, but on the ones that do get lifting, I am left scratching my head.. as you said, I might have prepped the nail to "within an inch of its life", so it's very frustrating to not know the solution. The only difference is, I sculpt with gel. Would you recommend a higher grit than 80/100 for gel? I have been using the 180/100 banana files.

Brilliant video. Thank you. I struggle with my filing and getting the nail just how I like. Can you tell me what grit file would you use if doing gel too Please as I only use gel. Have not yet managed to get the hang of acrylic 🙈
