It is quite easy to see how Bol will perform in 2024. She is always very consistent and consistently getting better. So I would be surprised if she does not go under 51 seconds in 2024 with the extra flat speed and the extra year of getting used to 14 stride. So in the equation the big question mark is Sydney. Which event will she even run in Paris? If it is the hurdles, can she take another step up? Hard to say as she has not hurdled since 2022 and she was further than Bol in her development curve, having started at a much younger age. If she does take a step up, it will be hard for Bol to beat her. If she does not, I do think there is a reasonable chance that Bol will beat her.

Overall, the video gave me a feeling of Femke is still improving, but not quite at Sydney's level, or the level Sydney was at in 2020. also take into account that her slower time this year was in the prelims for this world record breaking final. same is the case for 3 of her last years times indoor, 1 was a prelim on the nationals and 2 were prelims in the european champs. same will happen this year at the worlds, there will be 2 slower times for the prelims. her coach said that this WR wasnt the perfect race by quite a bit and that she can run faster.
for paris i hope sydney will also race the 400m hurdles (i even doubt if its wise to do both the 400m and the 400m hurdles since she was injured past year). i think it will be a real battle this time. i think femke will for sure run below 51 so that wont be a sure gold for sydney, since she only ran below 51 herself 1 time in her life.

    • @cobramanphil
      @cobramanphil Před 3 měsíci +1

Also things to consider Femke ran her times indoors. I wouldn't think that would be a factor, but times are always faster outdoors so it is difficult to compare indoor versus outdoor times to predict how athletes will do against each other. I am sure Femke will be improving, but so will Sidney as well which makes for a great story along with a great race. The one runner I wanted to continue in the open 400m is Shaunae Miller-Uibo. She I believe still holds the record in the 47s, but she may be concentrating on the 200m in 2024 instead. For sure Femke and and Sidney will have all the eyes on them, but it would be nice to see other runners in contention(i.e. Dalilah Muhammad, Britton Wilson) for the 400m H as well as the open 400m runs....

    • @joowsty

@@cobramanphil yes, i think that definitely makes a huge difference, but Femke has 2 peak moments in the season, the indoor euro's or worlds and the outdoor world or olympics. she only runs 400 meter flat outdoor when shes in the middle of hard training periods and usually only at the start of her outdoor season. so thats probably why her times outdoor are not up to her true potential.

Lisanne de Witte (53.04) ran faster this weekend than Saalberg (53.42), but unfortunately had to pull out of the final due to falling ill. Saalberg has a better PB but De Witte seems more in form so far. The 400m hurdles first round on August 4, followed by the first round of the 400m flat the following day. The next day is the hurdles semis and the day after that is the flat semis. All that before the finals. Swapping events every other day plus the risk of niggling injury or fatigue will sadly preclude a showdown.

This has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by this point, so the only question we have is whether she is closer to Syd than she was before, and the problem is that Syd almost never runs, and when she does it's almost invariably on home turf in advantageous circumstances because they're two very different athletes psychologically with very different preferences for competition. Femke hasn't got close to Syd's record times, but she has improved her best several times since they last squared off, now regularly runs a faster pace than she was doing last time we saw them head to head, and Syd fans tend to use Syd's WR PB as a yardstick as though she will run that time each and every time she takes to the track.
On Syd's best day vs. Femke's best day, Syd still wins... but Femke runs a lot even when it isn't her best day which Syd tends not to, and we've hardly seen her run anything at all (not to mention fans in Europe for whom Bol is one of the main audience draws these days have only had two chances to see McLaughlin run anywhere at all since 2019 - one event in Hungary in 2022 and one in France in 2023) to give meaningful indications of her form, so we get this endless back and forth about hypotheticals of what would happen if she was there. Gabby Thomas: 49.68
      Athing Mu: 49:57
      Britton Wilson: 49:13
      Sydney McLaughlin: 48:74
The world record is 3:15:17 set by the Soviet Union. The only team since 2000 to run below 3:17 seconds is the US from 2012 and 2021 Olympics. And that time from the 2021 Olympics is 3:16:85 and good enough for 5th all time. And that time is more than a second off the record and that team had Sydney, athing mu, Delilah Muhammad, and Allison Felix in it.
Netherlands best time ever is from last year and that time was 3:20:72. That is more than 5 seconds off the record. I look at America’s depth and I still struggle to think if they could threaten the record even though they’re less than 2 seconds off. But Netherlands best being 5 seconds off and you think that team can pose a threat to the record?
Netherlands A team would be beaten by America’s A team by at least 3 seconds. And even America don’t think they can break the record despite them being the best suited to challenge for it. That’s why I think it’s irrational to say you think some team can break the record simply because they’re running pb’s indoors and they have a couple of new people joining in.
Netherlands should try to run a sub 3:20 second relay before they think about challenging for the record.

The only thing left in the immediate future is the indoor world champs in few weeks. I would think she'll be pushed and run fast enough to win in that meet, but another world record will just be secondary to the win. I'm expecting she'll run the women's 400m and a leg on the Dutch women's 4x400m team.

It’s interesting to me how this post-Bolt, post-Farah era has seen an emergence in attention to hurdling events, especially the 400mH. Bolt dominated lower distances of course, Farah the long, and now we see Warholm, Holloway, Rai, Bol, McLaughlin, and even Devon Allen and Muhammad rewrite hurdle history! Interetsing progression in running in my opinion?

Femke & Sydney could realy help eachother. After Femkes Golden 400mh race in Paris Olympics Sydney is willing to write a book for Femke. "Femke's golden race at Paris Olympics." Sydney will together with Femke do TV roadshows promoting Femke's book. 😂😅

This channel has a habit of promoting athletes from the USA sometimes unfairly. This video was to be about Bold world record but ended up making Bol look inferior to Sydney McLaughlin. Bols world record wasnt even about hurdles. This channel is my go to for updates and confirmation with anything track and field cos you produce very good contents but pls do try to allow the achievements of athletes from other countries other than the US be recognized and be appreciated as much as u do for the US athletes

@vonbrave The fact is he dedicated an entire video to a Dutch athlete. It was very much extoling Bol's achievements. You act as if the narrator is claiming he knows who is better. He very clearly asked for other people's opinions at the end of the video. We in the US are a people which is one of the the most ethnically diverse in the world. Do you think arbitrary borders are going to make us fail to see greatness elsewhere?
Besides her speed what is so amazing is Bol's stamina. She never seems to take a layoff from training and competition.

As for who wins gold in their events, hard to say because of potential injuries & other elite sprinters who have improved & also hungry for gold. Anyway, it's going to be exciting . . . go Bol . . . . go McLaughlin!

So if Sydney’s team was trying avoid having her lose a race. Why would they put her into the lions den in her first race as opposed to a continental gold meet where no one is capable of running sub 50?
Similar to what they did with Shelly Ann last season. Putting her in races where no one can run sub 11 in 100m and basically guaranteeing her a win.

Sydney doing the hurdles satisfies the media and fans because of the Sydney vs femke dynamic.
Her doing the 400m flat is about legacy and becoming an Olympic champ and possible world record holder in a second discipline. Only two athletes can say they are both Olympic champion and world record holder in two sprint events. Sydney could be the third.

Well, as you know that I am biased but let me be honest, Femme Bol:s records has been impressive since she had started indoors competition of 400m dash beaten the Jamaican sprinters with her teammate and she had progressed and trained harder to the point that she is competing against the clock without so much of a rest... one thing that all of this progression of the 400m dash indicated that she is the favorite sprinter for gold 🥇; Sydney had health challenges and only have competed in 60m hurdle indoors but I can't remember the year: she has the same coach as Mo and Harrison and P ( Kersey); Mo competed at Worlds and got sidelined but ended up in third place overall to medal: Bol is competing in the 400m hurdle and the 400m dash, including the 400m dash relay?!! That is a fierce competitive plans for her individually and collectively... but we would see... again everyone involved is aware of her achievements and accomplishments in the indoors 400m dash, especially after Worlds
Championships; and as for the American athletes, they have US Track and Field, notwithstanding that certain athletes have a bye... but I don't know yet and have to wait and see which athletes are going to be at the Olympics for the medals or give their best for trying to execute in their performances; question: is Bol going to Worlds indoors Championships since she has been competed and invested in the indoors recently?!! What is up?!! Worlds Indoors and then Paris for the Olympics?!! But thanks for sharing your podcast and insights; most appreciative!!!!😊😊
