  • The INSANE 400 Meter Hurdles Battle; Femke Bol VS. Sydney Mclaughlin
We have all been waiting for this. Sydney Mclaughlin against Femke Bol in the 400-meter hurdles. Can anyone challenge McLaughlin's dominance? Or will Femke Bol surprise us by making the unreal a reality? One thing is certain, and that is that this battle will not be boring. These are perhaps the two biggest names in the 2023 400 meter hurdles.

First of all McLaughlin was focusing entirely on the Open 400 meters last year so she wasn't even going to run against Bol unless Bol ran the Open 400 meters. Bobby Kersee is Sidney's coach and his athletes never really run the indoor season seriously. In the outdoor season last year Sydney was preparing for Budapest. I believe she ran 3 Open 400 meters trying different tactics with her last race in August she 48.78 seconds which is a time I don't believe Bol has ever run. Sometime after that race Sydney developed a knee injury and her coach shut her down for the remainder of the season. So your comments about Sydney avoiding Bol is just plain dumb. I love Bol. Its a shame trying to put her has a simple internet champion, she deserves more... Sidney has almost 1 second more than Bol, has beat the world record four times in a year, she gave a new standard in the distance twice (first above 52, second above 51) what we are comparing on? I do not understand the comparison between these two lovely athletes. BOL is Brilliant but Sidney is from other planet, that its the reality. Let them do it their owns way.

Bol is already faster on the flat 400. Bol's indoor World Record is worth 1272 IAF points, and McLaughlins PB on the flat gives 1257 IAF points. On the hurdles though you should remember that Bol only started in 2019 (!) while mcLaughlin started on the hurdles in 2016. So McLaughlin had a large headstart. Nevertheless Bol got a bronze medal in Tokio in 2021, with only 2 (!) years of experience. That is completely ridiculous... Furthermore, McLaughlin won that final with a then World Record of 51.46, which she ran 5 years after starting on the hurdles in 2016. However in 2023 Bol ran a 51.45 in London, which would have won gold in Tokyo, and she did this only 4 years after starting on the hurdles. In other words: McLaughlin and Bol are on quite similar development curves (and if anything Bol seems to be developing a bit faster), but Bol started 3 years later in time. What the current status is is completely unclear, Bol has continued to make strong progress over the last 1.5 year, while McLaughlin has more or less disappeared... And nobody knows what she is going to do...

Maybe because she has always beaten athletes like Kaczmarek (who won silver at worlds and has a PB of 49.48) by at least 0.5 seconds. Obviously if you run only 2 races outdoor at the beginning of the season and only focusing on another event you can't have the best time. Also in 2022 Bol ran 50.30 indoor and then 49.44 outdoor, this year she improved to 49.26 indoor so you can imagine what she can do outdoor. That's why people consider her one of the best

In Eugene she ran a jaw-dropping 50.68 seconds to beat her previous record of 51.41 by almost a full second. Sydney was the first woman to break the 51-second barrier in the 400m hurdles. She was also the first woman to run the 400m hurdles in less than 52 seconds. It means that even today she holds a significant place in the history of track and field. The people saying Femke are cracking me up. The reality is - Sydney is way faster than Femke. The end. If you look at Syd's best time - 50.68. Femke's best time - 51.45 is still slower than Syd's 2nd fastest time of 51.41. If you look at their best flat 400 times - Sydney's is 48.74 and Femke's is 49.44. Stop trying to make this a rivalry. In order to have a rivalry both parties need to win races. Yet every race they've ever been in together - Sydney has left Femke eating her dust. Is Femke the 2nd best 400m hurdler right now? Yes - but she's still .77 behind Syd's WR. In a race .77 would probably come out to 8-10 meters behind Sydney (See: 2022 World Championships). Sorry to burst bubbles...

This is just the hype to build up a race between Sydney and Femke. They probably won’t face each other this coming season until the Olympic Games. Sydney will run every event from the 100m to the 400m and probably won’t run the 400ih until 2 months before the Olympics. She’ll log 3 maybe 4 for races, break her own world record and absolutely destroy Femke in the Olympic final. Femke simply doesn’t have the foot speed to compete with Sydney and Bobby Kersee has taught Sydney how to “run” the hurdles and not just “jump” over them. This was the reason she lost to Dalilah Muhammad. If you go back and watch those races where Dalilah set and broke the world record, you’ll notice how poor Sydney’s hurdling technique was. Fast forward to 2022 World Championships her technique was flawless. Femke is going to have to at least threaten the world record between now and the Olympic Games for this to be a relevant conversation.

Especially if they invent a new pair of cheating shoes like at Tokyo.

So Femke Bol ran in Tokyo in Dutch wooden clogs? 😃
The problem is that everyone used there track spikes with carbon plates. As far as know the Dutch were among the first who had them.

Femke Bol won all international 400m hurdles compitions in 2023. And you can't say the same about Sydney, and she will have to train hard to reach that level again!🤔

BOL not only lost to Ms. Sydney but she also finished behind Ms. Muhammad in the OLYMPICS.....
She's a great athlete as both of the other ladies. Until she breaks the WR, and beats Ms. Sydney heads up, let's stop these silly comparisons. 😅

Sorry, Sydney is not ready to win the 400m hurdle race against Femke Bol at the Olympics 2024 in Paris.Maybe she will find an excuus not to run against her and choose the 400m flat!😁
