    These look awesome - genuine question - these look so much larger, is there any chance of either overworking the turbo, or getting some boost drop due to the add'l capacity of the charged air track?

    • @Sakkie_S55_M3
      @Sakkie_S55_M3 Před 2 lety +5

      it cools the charged air way better, but there is more turbo lag… but not by much that you will notice.
      Think of it as a small balloon vs a big balloon aired up with the same air pump. The air pump only supplies a certain amount of pressure but it takes a bit more time/volume to fill the larger one

    • @finemperor3694
      @finemperor3694 Před 2 lety

      Not in any sort of way that would be noticeable or even matter really.

      Not related to this FMIC, but I wanna share my experience to help answer your question. My best friend and I have the same car (F22 M235i RWD 8AT) (mine is a 16' and his is a 15') (same odo mileage). We both have exactly the same mods, (FMIC, charge pipe, catless DP, full straight-pipe exhaust [all parts from VRSF] -- stock turbo, air intake, and inlet, -- both tuned running MHD Stage 2+ 93oct AKI). Our cars are as close to a identical as they can be, except for: I have the VRSF 5" FMIC, whereas he has the 6.5" VRSF FMIC. Time after time, I consistently pull on him the slightest bit. We've never gone to a proper drag strip, but judging from our trips to Mexico, I estimate that I would put about a car length between us--me in front (assuming in this example we have the same RT at the tree). When we do ~30mph to ~90mph rolls in Mexico, I'm always even then start to walk up slowly and keeping pulling away at the higher end of the speed range. Both cars are running perfectly fine. Neither him nor I know the reason behind this, it's not him as a driver, it's clearly the cars. I strongly suspect that it is due to my intercooler. It is the only difference between our cars. My theory is, since my FMIC has a lower internal volume, it pressurizes faster--providing less lag, lower pressure drop which I assume means there is a higher volume of air entering my throttle body due to the theoretically higher boost. This small advantage in turbo response/spool, allows me to climb through the 'lower' rpms ever so slightly faster than him, and get into the powerband quicker, from there i just hold the lead. So in conclusion I think that there IS a small difference, but unless you compare them like my buddy and I have, you will not know the difference.
      TLDR: The smaller VRSF FMIC might provide slightly faster acceleration but will not be noticeable.

      @KB-nt7eg Před 2 lety

      I'm looking at a FMIC because I'm stage one and plan on hitting stage two soon. I wouldn't buy this for a stock F30. Waste of money.

    • @KB-nt7eg
      @KB-nt7eg Před 2 lety

      @@Sakkie_S55_M3 your example is assuming the first balloon was using a pump that maxed out pumping it up. BMW's are nerfed stock. Meaning their current stock equipment can handle more than what they put out from the factory.
      Most manufacturers don't do this. This is why stage one is safe with stock equipment.
      Aftermarket charge pipe is recommended for stage one since it's plastic and will break. Which doesn't cause any damage other than to the charge pipe if it breaks.
      These two FMIC's will give close to zero added lag.

    These big size intercoolers increase the turbo lag further with stock tubochargers. Only effective if you also upgrade turbocharger of your car, otherwise you wont feel any difference.

    • @davidrubin2612
      @davidrubin2612 Před 2 lety

      Untrue there is no turbo lag with 5-7” stepped intercoolers especially if you tune it stg 1 or 2.
