Restoring the Xbox 360 slim gears of war 3 limited edition 0003 Restoration & Repair - ASMR

In this instance it was caused by a blown MOSFET
"The Xbox 360 motherboard takes in 12V from the "brick" then converts it down to more useful voltages that the chips can use. Most notably, 5V, 3.3V, and 1.8V. This is done via DC-DC switching converters.
These converters use a pair of MOSFETS (high current transistors) to switch a supply line very rapidly between 12V and ground, to get an "average" voltage of somewhere in between, such as 5V. A controller chip controls the MOSFETS to regulate an exact voltage. The output of these 'FETs then goes through a coil to clean it up, and it's then smoothed up more by some capacitors and such.
Symptoms of failure:
-Xbox 360 turns on and red lights IMMEDIATELY (not after a few seconds like on some other failures, such as the dreaded 0102). No picture on the screen.
-Fan spins for a moment and stops again, and PSU may show red or orange light.
-After it shows the red lights, the secondary error code will be 0002 or 0003.

Since this system isn't the newest on the market anymore, it's cheaper to replace the parts yourself than it is to send them in for repairs.

Breaking the tabs is completely pointless in the side covers. There’s also a small hole under the the sticker in the back to insert paper clip for breaking the top and bottom cases free without risk of damaging console.
Now that I see this gears of War console, I kind of want one! Lol. Such a beautiful looking console! Glad you got it back up and running. Great restoration job! I love the black and red colors of this console. Very nice

I recently sold a xbox just like one in video. Watching the teardown makes me glad i never had to take mine apart. I will never understand why console manufacturers insist on making their console a total pain to take apart.

Because most people just buy a new one without a second thought anyway, this stops the few people willing to try and recover their machine leaving only a handful of people willing to pay for refurbishing and even less people to refubish. Anticonsureist to the core.

Good job repairing that masterpiece(an advice:don't push the disc tray,let it close normally by itself by pressing g the same eject button or on when you did it on the dashboard.)

the xbox 360 slim that I bought in 2013, now in 2024 there is no sign of damage, it still works normally, it's just that the plate is corroded and some of the screw mounts are broken😳

my old X360 has the same issue, what's the name and capacity of the component you just replace?
I think that part was a mosfet, but better check the part yourself as it might be a different value on your xbox. Its not a typical cause of failure from the 360 and 90% of 360s cant be fixed

Ik I'm late but this is actually what is called a reset glitch hack xbox 360. It has been modded to run unsigned code. I have one myself and the chip next to the heatsink is not normally there.

Getting out of ideas for content. His “restoration” of the disc drive was super cringy. Idk what he sprayed on the laser but he scratched the snot out of it with the brush first then sprayed it directly. Lasers only need a qtip and isopropyl alcohol.

The Red Ring of Death is typically caused by broken solder joints between the Graphics processor chip and the motherboard. Heat is a major contributing factor to the RROD. Under high temperatures the solder can soften and break away from the board. The motherboard itself is a big contributing factor to this issue. The motherboard under constant high heat can begin to flex or become concave. When this happens it starts to pull away from the rigid chip and break the solder joints between the chip and board. There are some other issues with various chips that can attribute to this issue but the GPU is the most common.
The only way to fix that issue is with a re-flow or a re-ball …
The 360 uses BGA chips. Which require specialized tools.

I’m glad you got it fixed. But stop pretending like you know what you’re saying. This was NOT a RROD fix.
Error code shown was 0003, which isn’t always a GPU fault. Besides, the core problem with the 360s were inside the GPU (defective flip chips) and although cold solder joints under the GPU can cause RROD, it’s not the most prominent cause. Only way for a secure fix is a complete GPU replacement.
Staged video, maybe. It isn’t fair to rule it out as complete BS I’d say.
