MAAR and Matthews are two very under appreciated players from past Michigan teams

Definitely one of John Beilein's best defensive teams since he's been at Michigan. Oh and back to back sweet 16 appearances, 2 Elite 8's, 2 final 4 appearance and now possibly another national championship appearance. Most underrated coach in college basketball right now. Give the man his Credit!

Now....Michigan gets the highest remaining seed (Loyola Chicago) next weekend at the Final Four. Have to give Michigan a huge advantage here. Anyone knowing about Michigan Basketball and Coach John Beilein. You give that man a whole week to prep for a game.....that opponent is in trouble! GO BLUE!!!!

Florida State's coach not fouling in the last seconds of the game will be a looked apon in the NCAA tournament as a head scratcher. Your team was down four with about 12 seconds to go. FOUL!!!
Especially since Michigan was god awful from the free throw line all year.

I am not even a fan of either team but this game was exhausting to watch - it was like a heavyweight fight that was decided by a TKO in the 12th round. Two football schools playing what was like football on the hardwood.

It was BRUTAL to watch as a Wolverine fan. Especially the ending. FTs have been a bit of a bane all season and almost cost them in spectacular fashion. Michigan had to miss at least 10 uncontested or pretty open 3s. If they make even 3 of those shots this game is a whole lot different. But, the defense is what makes this team special.
Michigan is not a football school . It's a preeminent bastion of academic excellence across the board first and foremost. The fact it is #1 All time in football wins, in hockey national championships, and top 8 in basketball cuteness all time as well as the only school located outside the state of California that is in the top 5 all time for alumni and student Olympic medals won, and the first and still only university twin a national championship in all 4 major sports of football, basketball, hockey, and baseball...are all just incidental to UMs dynastic global imperial power greatness fame .

and to think he was a 2-3 star that no one really wanted. He was offered when Michigan missed out on a recruit. Now he's a possible pro. Beilein coaches kids up like few others can and MAAR was our hardest worker for the last 4 years. That's a great combo

A1 Video gamer o agree. The D was there. We just needed a little more offense. Players were open on fast breaks but they tried to create fouls. There were some threes that shouldn't have been shot. There only good if you make them. It's the little things that always counts.

Best thing about this team is, anyone and everyone can step up when needed, but the defense has been nothing below outstanding all year. Offense wins games(Virginia) but defense wins championships (Michigan)
Hasan Elhady you kind of contradicted yourself. Virginia had the best scoring defense in the country. They just couldn’t do it when they had to.

This is one of the best..of not the best...UM team.
Hard to say they're even the best Beilein team. That 2013 team had much more talent and worked so well together just like this team. The few differences are that the 2013 team could actually make free throws and score consistenly while this team plays much better defense and has more experience. Pick your poison I guess, but its hard to say no to a team with 5 future NBA roll players and one player (Mcgary) that at least played a little but.

No, the 1989 team would beat this team by 18 to 20 points...Glen Rice set the NCAA tournament record that still stands for most points in a tourney along with other future NBA players such a 7 foot two inch Riley, Terry Mills, Sean Higgins, Rumeal Robinson, and others. A total of 6 NBA players were on their team that season.
What makes this Michigan team so special is that they are the by far the deepest team in the tournament with a second string that is literally as good as the first string even with superstar Maurice Wagner.This depth is wearing out more physically talented teams. Also , UM is very speedy , plays a suffocating defense, is quick so can slash for two inside or hit for 3 from
way outside, is a great passing team, and because Michigan is so ivy league or better academically, its student athletes have a higher IQ than anyone else so do not choke as often or make poor judgment errors and turnovers. Thanks to a great coaching staff, UM is a very unselfish TEAM, and has very teachable players.

In past years if Michigan shoots under 40% from the field they're out. This year they area much more complete team. 18% from the 3 is why this game was close. Normal 30% shooting from 3 and it's not even close
