@@akkudakkupl Hello, I've just had a look at Fords model T transmission, I can see the similarities but also a lot of differences. I didn't base this design off of any specific transmission. If you have seen a transmission mechanically identical please let me know. Just to clarify, I came up with this design but I can't guarantee that someone else hasn't also come to the same design.
I was a bit confused by the choice of materials only until I saw the lathe. At that point of the video, I saw the genius of the engine creator. The machine that built the machine has driven human progress forward until now, and the practice is on full display here. Congratulations on your designs, the elegance is no small thing. I look forward to your future 5 axis cnc project. You haven't announced the building of such a thing, but it is inevitable. Lol, great stuff, truly great!
this is so ingenious! This channel needs more subs. I would love to see a heavy flywheel on the output of he gearbox so that you can do a "dyno" run through the gears. it would sound awesome
What you've built here is rather similar to a three speed hydraulically controller automatic transmission common in the 1970s If you ever decide to sell these as a kit that can be assembled, I would love to have one someday. I don't own a 3D printer and have no real use for one, but I would love to assemble and play with something like this.
Absolutely fantastic, that you can get all the tolerance required with modelling and printing. That must have taken quite some time to get all the pieces working together.
This is actually how the clutches are working in the automatic gearbox :) especially old ones, 3-speed with OD. The only difference this gearbox have with real(!) automatic one - is a torque converter and control circuitry, which was done by oil pressure
9:57 in auto transmission lingo these things you call clutches are simply called 'bands'. In that application the bands engage and disengage various clutch packs.
Для модели это очень красивый дизайн! Мягко говоря я поражён сегодня такие вещи делает один человек... Автор очень хороший инженер! Спасибо большое за видео.

Can't believe how compact this thing is! Earned a subscriber! What printer settings did you use for such a high resolution on the gears? Did you use a tighter nozzle?

If you could upscale that...and make it the size of those gocart engines...you just may have solved the gear changes for gocarts! So very awesome!!! Keep em coming!!!!
I had a similar idea for some time now, but wasn't sure how I'd make the different planetary gears engage or disengage. My thought was that using clutch packs similar to an actual automatic transmission would be a good idea to have lots of friction with low wear, however that would require a rod system to pull the clutches together and possibly the use of synchronizer gears slowing down a planetary gear set before engaging. The idea with the clutches and the camshaft is much simpler, but I'm curious if the friction is sufficient to transmit high amounts of torque without slipping. Also the wear might be a problem over time, so I think a solution with clutch packs would still be better for practical use if somehow possible. I suppose it would also require two servos as one could only switch between two gears.
Hello, (as a prefece the main goal of this gearbox is to be compact) the clutch rings provide adequate friction (they are made from carbon fiber re-enforced nylon) With regards to wear, the ring gears would most likely wear first and are easy to replace. However, Id like to build something into the gearbox to allow me to adjust the tension of the clutch rings. When I integrate this gearbox into a system like a vehicle, i will get a better idea of how it performes in that system and may look into implementing somthing to account for wear. hope this answeres your question. Thanks for the comment!
MAN this is SOO COOL!! I am designing also busy designing a 3-speed mini Transmission, thought yours is WAYYY better haha May I please have the files for it?🙏
Very slick can we buy the plans from you or do you have any other documentation available? My dad is a retired mech engineer and would get a kick out of building this.
its such a shame storing any meaningful amount of compressed air at the micro scale is basically impossible, because an air engine like this on an rc car or airplane would be an absolute _riot_ for a fraction of the price of nitro engines
that design is incredibly clever
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
It's exactly how automatic transmissions work. Ford Model T had one like this but 2 speed and manual.
@@akkudakkupl "worked" is the word you were looking for.. they dont work like this anymore. :)

I was laughing in disbelief at how incredibly clever this piece of design is. Well done, you are clearly very talented!
Thanks you, I'm glad you like it!!
Every step of this design shows a distincf mental clarity of the goals and requirements. Fantastic work.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it!!
The best designs for a 3d printed gearbox I’ve seen so far. Excellent!
Thanks!!

That top bell housing bolt is the one the mechanic will "forget" to replace
As a mechanic I quickly noticed he had a custom tool for the job..... I have a toolbox full of them after years at BMW.

Absolutely incredible! Super design, printing, assembly, everything!
That's freaking awesome man. Nothing more satisfying than a press fit part right?!?!
Thank you Agreed!
this is remarkably similar to how the old ford model A & T transmissions worked. the difference being how the clutched were applied
Amazing work! Your fit and finish is excellent as is the final result. Thanks for sharing!
This is amazing....until now I never understood planetary gear boxes.
So many satisfying clicks and snaps as it goes together perfectly..
Thanks!

Hi, Thank you for letting me know!
3d printing + machining ! What a incredible duo
thank you for your dedication to excellence in every video!
I came interested in the transmission, and I'm leaving realizing I need to build a lathe for my prints, incredible stuff!
Man... incredible work!
I really like this design. Very well thought through and unique. Love it.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
This is one of the best designs that I have ever seen. Just amazing!

You should add a flywheel for some drag / acceleration sounds
Outstanding! 🫡👍🏻
Incredible gearbox and engine! :o , you should do a collab with Tom Stanton one day

Nicely done. Some design details are inspiring. Need to note.

Aldo the idea is nothing new, it's incredible if you have been designing this. Amazing, nice work !
This is the coolest 3d printed engine projects I have ever seen. Wow!
I'd say this very much represents a preselector gearbox, which also have the brake-bands over the epicyclic gears
brilliant bit engineering! could sell that as a kit!
@JohnnyQ90 needs to see this
Brillant !!
im really impressed by this, it also just looks quite sleek. even tho some ribs in cavities type of flair could definitely make it look much cooler~

Love the video! Audio is everything in videos (ironically enough) so a better mic would suit the cool design and content!
What 3d printer do you use? Your parts look so clean i thought they were injection molded for a sec.
Wow, I really would like to see some physical numbers on what it's capable of. Or some kind of demonstration
Amazing print quality! What 3D printer do you use?
Bamboo labs P1P and X1C

Very slick can we buy the plans from you or do you have any other documentation available? My dad is a retired mech engineer and would get a kick out of building this.
