      i dont think thats what they meant, i think they meant stylists shouldnt capitalise on shitting on others in their community just to raise thenselves up, and that also means when a client complains to them about someone you dont in response they dogging on them too just to make themselves look good. which is a good point.

      I needed to get a colour correction after a hairstylist completely botched my foils. It was obvious to anyone with eyes let alone professionals that it was a crap job. She basically gave me hot roots. According to Sarah, if a new hairstylist validated my complaint of the previous hairstylists job and warned future clients to prevent them from having their hair ruined, they’d be breaking some golden rule in the industry.
      Well stuff your rules. If you care about people’s hair you’d understand that reputations are earned and importantly, if *you* wouldn’t want to learn the hard way on your own precious locks then don’t expect consumers to.
      I get that industries have etiquette, but what about duty of care? If I am legally mandated to report professionals to a regulating body for hurting clients in my industry, then the least you can do is acknowledge that not all hairstylists are created equal.

      As a former hairstylist..
      I can’t even fathom what these women spend, nowadays.
      Hell, if anything..
      It’s more financially feasible to attend a local beautify school and become licensed - because of the insane wholesale costs of products, compared to retail.
      I mean, I use some of THE BEST professional grade shampoo and conditioner, One could purchase (Purology Nanoworks).
      I stopped using that specific kind, and noticed a HUGE undesirable difference, in my hair.
      I thought how so ridiculous it is that I didn’t continue using it - when I have access to it, for such a considerable less cost.
      I mean, a liter of it runs about $250, retail.
      I’d pay around $100.
      And it’s super concentrated - so, it last for a very long time (so much so, a liter would expire before I even used it all, over the year shelf-life it has).
      I buy the smaller bottles for about $27 each.
      Which, still, is cheaper than a lot of even lesser quality beauty products, at retail cost.
      Salon retail mark-ups, usually, are at least 100% - or more.
      It costs $50 every few years, to maintain a license.
      I don’t even do hair, anymore - and maintain my license for the product prices, alone.
      Also, I don’t enjoy the majority of their personalities.
      Probably why I started to specialize in men’s haircuts and went to barber school, after becoming a cosmetologist.
      American Crew is one of the few professional masculine product brands - and I absolutely love their cutting techniques and overall brand style.
      Such class and refinement.
      It is a bit pricey, though - it’s not like men need the 1,0001 beauty products, like these beauty girlies think they need.
      I can’t even fathom having as much PR as they do - even though it’s free.
      My autistic-ass would get way overwhelmed at the potential selections - especially, when I have my routine products I swear by.

    The Savic Salon girl knew what she was doing whether or not she intended to shade Sarah jade specifically. As someone with experience in the cosmetology (hair) industry, you very much SHOULD call out bad stylists. One bad stylist makes all stylists look bad in the eyes of a lot of the general public. People distrust stylists and believe that they are lying to them, just trying to sell products or overcharge them all the time. If someone goes to a stylist that charges above average prices, they usually (and rightly should) assume that the stylist will provide them with a high end experience and an ideal outcome. When that doesn't happen, the client is more likely to distrust ALL stylists. Now, is calling out bad stylists trash talking them and spreading drama every chance you get? No, that's a sign of a bad stylist. But, professionally detailing how a customer was dissatisfied and showing how you were able to correct or save the previous work is not trash talking. It's showing that 1) expensive doesn't always equal experienced stylist 2) you can still trust other stylists even if you've had a very bad experience 3) and it shows the stylist who did the corrections is capable of dealing with complicated situations.

    • @julijatrajcevska5232
      @julijatrajcevska5232 Před 4 měsíci +5

      I'd argue you can be diplomatic about it and say "look, I'm unable to comment on the quality of the previous work as I was not there when it was done, nor have I seen what the hair was like originally. However, these are the issues that I'm seeing right now that I can help you with."
      Nobody is perfect so there's going to be a day where your work doesn't hold up for whatever reason and you would expect that same respect from others.
      I'd personally lose respect for any stylist that tries to say their work is the best by putting down that of others.

    As someone from asian country it is well known that in Europe, US etc. beauty services are kind of awful. This type of hair extensions on itself is very outdated and bad, no matter how you maintain it. We use tiny capsules that you almost can’t even spot when you’re looking at it. And also how much you guys charge is unbelievable. So keep in mind that service itself is not the high quality standard despite how common it is

  • @RUlNA
    @RUlNA Před 4 měsíci +59

    See, as someone not in this drama, I think Sarah’s video is less “i’m being shaded” and more a general comment ‘don’t make your business grow by tearing down others” because that is the same way the theatre world is. And she would’ve known if she was being tagged and tagged and tagged. And even if it wasn’t her work, it’s still shitty to be like “I’m a new salon look at how good my work is in comparison to this specific possible big known hairstylist.” but she was being shady

    • @KaeRXO
      @KaeRXO Před 4 měsíci +1

      But as someone in theatre too I think that’s the problem with our field as well (as well as most work cultures). Smaller actors/ new comers aren’t allowed to call out maltreatment or favoritism in fear that it will worsen or even end their careers. That isn’t even fair, just having to sit by and kiss the asses of people more well known then you for the *chance* that you *may* become as well known as them is so damaging. Because just like in makeup and hair, there a plethora of these professionals out here not everyone is gonna become *THEE* best. I think the person in the original video should have just taken out what city but left the price in. She’s allowed to say look “I fixed this mess this other person did”. It probably brought more clients in for her, but it also holds the other stylist accountable. I’m sure that wasn’t the only client of hers that wasn’t happy.

    • @RUlNA
      @RUlNA Před 4 měsíci +3

      @@KaeRXO oh i agree; the original video would have been fine if she'd simply said "this client was unhappy and i fixed it." because then it becomes a focus on how the transformation actually was instead of cultivating a sense of trying to find out who the bad work was and building discussion around the possible drama over the work. Which then you don't build yourself up - you make a scene, you drag other people down and people remember you just for the drama. which is why a lot of the folks i went to school and such with aren't working but i and some others are. i recently left a theatre and when asked why, plainly stated that our goals in the field didn't align anymore - especially after getting blamed for shitty work that wasn't my fault. i think in general, there's a way to build yourself up while fixing someone else's work or calling out mistreatment without drawing drama to the forefront of the discussion. i think youre right in that had she left out the city, had she rephrased the video, then sarah's video would've seemed out of place. tbh i just think people don't understand how to navigate conflict and complaints without it sounding like an attack.

    • @KaeRXO
      @KaeRXO Před 4 měsíci

      @@RUlNA oh yeah I see where you’re coming from though. I think it’s super crappy though that theatre culture has decided to label people as “difficult” to work with and it’s usually people who know their worth and aren’t willing to do shady and most times sexual stuff to advance their careers. If you call it out now you’re *difficult* and suddenly it’s harder to book roles. But as someone who switched from being on stage to backstage it’s insane seeing what people deal with to *maybe* be a lead in a production. But I do think theatre culture is slightly different from cosmetology culture just because of the effects it has on other people. I think something that people keep forgetting is how much money these clients are truly paying to get their hair done and how much hours they probably had to work to afford that service. If I spend $2000 to get my hair done I expected to be done well and to the point where I don’t have to get it done for an additional 3+ months. Whether I book my theaters rendition of Hadestown has nothing to do with anybody else. It’s a sorta the same but not really situation cause the long lasting impact isn’t the same caliber. Also both these women are charging $1000+ for their services so *technically* they’ll both be okay in the long run lmao. People are still gonna go to the Sarah woman and people are still gonna go to the Slavic salon. The real issue is the crappy and damaging quality work that Sarah woman is doing, she clearly needs to stop focusing on making views. She’s destroying peoples hair and that’s grounds to have her license revoked. But I doubt this will effect either woman’s business long term. But I totally see where you’re coming from though, I just wish we didn’t have to abide by these social rules because it allows emotional vampires and truly shitty money hungry people to avoid accountability.

    For a while now, I've noticed many businesses that focus a major chunk of their posts on negative experience with customers or with commenters. The typical ones are story telling about unbelievably bad customers or excessively focusing on a few negative comments. 99% of the time, these accounts post this type of content repeatedly and make it their entire personality. They fish for sympathy and engagements. I think the self-snitching is just the latest tactic. People are drawn to drama and they can get business from people who feel sorry enough for them to purchase their stuff/service as a result.

    I think people need to grow up. People are allowed to not like you or your work and you cannot control what other people say. So just focus on what you do have control over and move on. Because if you are proud of the work you do, you should be able to stand behind it without trying to convince people you are good at what you do.

    If she didn’t want “drama” or “high school back and forth” then she shouldn’t have packaged her humble brag as she did. There was zero need to say where the client got their extensions or how much they originally paid. Including that info was gratuitous and most likely intentional, to throw shade while maintaining what she thinks is plausible deniability (“but I didn’t say a name”) So while it’s true she didn’t say a name it’s equally true she added info that was unnecessary if her sole intent was to showcase her hard work and skill

    There are multiple hair stylists in Australia, just saying that is NOT identifying. The hair stylist isnt in the wrong for mentioning that. As someone who has worked with hair for over 10 years we always ask clients past stylists, we always mention if something is wrong and show proof of it being wrong. Posting it and not saying the name is perfectly okay. The Sarah Jade womans speech was uncalled for and shows she truly doesnt know the industry at all, she popped in and wanted to start shit for no reason. Sarah Jade was rude, and it was stupid of her to even say anything if she wasnt guilty.

    This is unrelated to the drama. I had nano ring extensions for 2 years and they wrecked my hair. The lady who installed them was great don’t get me wrong, and kept up with maintenance and all the advice they give (no sulphates shampoo conditioner etc). I hate the fact that if you think about it for more than 30 seconds of course hair extensions are damaging no matter what they say. And I feel like when I believed they wouldn’t it was kylie jenners lips all over again, like I was 17 and believed they just got that big along with everyone else, but it was obvious when I got older that it was lip filler. But I don’t understand the need to lie. Yes nano rings are the ‘least’ damaging, but I got them not so much for length but to make my hair thicker and ended up with half of my natural hair by the end. If you don’t have them don’t get them, you also have to style your hair with heat nearly everyday if you want them to be undetectable, that’s not even mentioning you can’t give your self proper scalp massages, can’t really oil your hair because they come out easier, can’t put your hair up without seeing the beads (anyone who says they can I promise you we can see them, no shade), overall I wish I’d have just focused on hair growth back then like I am now and I would have been happier. All of this said I do not include medical conditions or alopecia, I just mean if you have revalue fine/thin hair as I did. Sorry - just like the only thing I feel stridently about and find it interesting how many hair extension professionals refuse to acknowledge that they do, indeed, cause damage.

      *Also* don’t get me wrong I was overcome with happiness at the new look I had and LOVED the extensions to begin with, it was only about 6 months in. The other issue is definitely the issues around the cycle, you feel your natural hair is too thin without them etc

    I’m sorry but if your hair gets all matted from “improper maintenance” after only five or so days from seeing your original stylist, it’s so not your fault, that’s ridiculous. Hair does not get that matted in five days unless you literally haven’t touched it a single time since getting home, that’s absolute bullshit. Also, I’ve known may stylists and none of them are friends, they’re competition and you should call out their horrible work if they screw up your hair.

  • @theMoporter

    This is different to Muggate because these people are competing businesses. They both have the incentive to show the other stylist is The Bad Guy. You can't really prove the small business was trying to start drama, but Sara Jane's first response was to threaten to blackball them, in public, like a goddamn mob boss 😐 Let's not automatically trust when a famous, ruch, senior stylist tries to *crush* a smaller business over a (possibly unintended) vaguepost.
    Muggate was just as identifying - hundreds of people recognised the design - but those TikTokers didn't see each other as business rivals. It was just a couple of 20-somethings being a bit awkward.

    Maybe the original hairdresser was a little too specific I guess, but the well known one who responded didn't actually have to because at the end of the day no names were called. It's almost like she felt guilty and felt she had to get her story out there when no one important was calling her out. She has a client base that will always go to her so she had no reason to respond. And then low key threatening the original hairdresser to blackball her in the industry is so low and stupid for someone of her statue, made herself look guilty as heck. Glad the original hairdresser shut it down, made her look like the rational one while the responder came off as cray cray.

    The original girl who posted needed to say in her first video that she was not going to be speaking on who did the bad job first, & she want engaging with any comments that were trying to guess who the stylist was, since she wasn't intending for the point to be about dragging anyone's work but rather to show her own work and how it came out in the end result. Or at least made a second video talking about quit trying to guess, what the purpose of the video was as well as addressing the issues with stylist etiquette & ethics.

    Nah, I’m sure because hairstyling is also a service business ((I’m a body piercer, I work in a tattoo shop)) that the “don’t bad talk people” is bullshit.
    Of course you don’t want to talk shit on people who actually provide a good service and it IS professional to not join in when a client tells you a horror story with personal opinions, if you keep hearing the same thing about someone ripping people off and providing a bad service,
    You don’t act like it’s all sunshine and flowers when someone tells you AGAIN that that same person/place has royally screwed them. It’s basically negligent.
    You don’t go out of your WAY to talk shit, you stay in your lane but you WILL make sure people in your industry know there’s a bad apple if there’s enough evidence.
    There’s a specific piercer that I constantly hear horror stories of his rude behaviour towards clients. His work IS GOOD and his jewelry is also good but his customers service is horrendous. Calling people names if they use slang terms for piercings and repeatedly saying things that put down the customer and make them feel stupid and uncomfortable.
    If someone comes to me and says they also had that experience, I’m not going to ignore that. I’m going to sympathise, reassure them that’s NOT professional and they should NOT be expected to have the same knowledge as someone who this is literally their job and that it wasn’t just them.
    Now, I give credit where it’s due. I will always make sure it’s known that his piercing work is great and his jewelry is top notch but his lack of customer service does seem to be consistent. So this person doesn’t feel like it was just them and that THEY are wrong for simply not being an expert in something they shouldn’t be expected to be when coming for a service.
    It feels morally wrong to me to not try and let people know it’s not their fault that someone’s just has antisocial tendencies or is creepy.
    I won’t BRING IT UP or ever truly say my own opinion, yes, but sitting and acting like it’s all sunshine and rainbows across artists in a service field and that you should NEVER react when you keep hearing the same names of bad eggs??
    Bullshit.
    The Nice Service Artist Always is fake af. Anyone who says that is talking mad shit behind closed doors, is totally bad mouthing people the just don’t like and is part of the problem with drama in these industries.
    It’s not that hard to mind ya business, support other people you genuinely think are doing a good job, be cordial with everyone, ignore drama but also be empathetic and kind to your customers who may have had a nightmare with others.
    Not everyone in these service fields is providing a good service. Not everyone cares about their work. Not everyone is just generally Polite. Some people have nefarious intentions.
    Sitting there and saying “never show bad work from someone else. Pretend it’s fine and go directly to them.” Feels nefarious to your customers who may not trust that person anymore and you don’t get to make that choice for them. Thats mad weird. And no one is always positive. That’s just a lie to make you look better than others while claiming you not playing that game 🙄🙄🤨

    Both those long hair ladies looked better before IMO. Like, obviously what matters most (and really the only thing that matters) is how the girls themselves feel. My personal feeling is that the first girl, the one whose hair was dyed super blonde, looked better with the original hair simply because her hair initially was something that would make you look twice, she looked spectacular and really unique, wheras the cut and especially the dye job made her look kind of samey and cookie cutter. The second girl with the really long hair, the cut looks great on her, but if feels like her original colour complimented her skintone better. Both of them are gorgeous and had beautiful hair both before and after, but to my eyes, both their original looks suited them better.

    No price would have been said, not expertise would have been mentioned and no location would have been mentioned. It is really not that hard to cover someone’s identity. • @OhItsNekoAgain
    @OhItsNekoAgain Před 4 měsíci +8

    No, point Sarah Jade made was true. The original post of the "shading" was made so people would start speculating, expecting people not to speculate when you drop heavy hints and people don't want to go to a bad salon themselves, is just too naive to believe it wasn't intentionally. The "bad extension" post could have been written more vague, why drop the location of the hairsalon? Ofc people will see this post and the people in the industry and region will talk bc no one wants to be the target. OP was spreading a rumor if true or not, what she did is business damaging, especially how they worded it.
    Edit: Mug gate was kind of different since it came from the personal experience of a customer and it was not "shady", the girl was just "disappointed by the mug for the price."
