  • Sometimes Rambo loves his squeak ball too much that he doesn't want to let go.
And he likes to whine and cry while fighting to keep his ball. What a drama king.

He needs to learn to see it not as losing the ball, but as 'something else great is going to happen now'. A throw of this toy to fetch, another toy, petting, whatever. He doesn't have to lose his spirit, but you need him to be able to change focus. It could be a matter of safety for some reason, someday. (Edit to add: apologies if I'm missing context. I haven't caught many of your videos yet.)

I absolutely agree with you! This is one of the commands we need to brush up but I haven’t set the time to do it yet. I do have a few ideas on how to work on that. Thank you for the comment! I especially love you mentioned he doesn’t have to lose his spirit 😊

Please teach that dog some basic obedience. The only reason that sweet dog didn't do give that toy 🪀 up was because he's the alpha in that relationship and didn't want to. He's going to be 10x the dog he is with some basic commands: no!; sit; stay; come; out (or something to that effect, just pick one word including no); go potty (trust me when I say that one will save you tons of time). And teach yourself a "Drill Instructor" voice for giving the command. That wishy-washy way won't do you or your dog any good on the long term.
He looks so much like Merlin, my mother's dog, that I truly want the best for him because he deserves it. I hope I don't sound too critical because I honestly am trying to help. I've trained my own GSDs for 4+ decades. I'm not a pro, but I've learned some things re: training along the way.

Thank you for your comment. I understand that your intentions were good, but I respectfully disagree with some of the suggestions you made.
While your suggested training style might work well for you and your dog, it's important to note that it's not necessarily the only or best approach. There are various methods of training, and personally, I don't align with the idea of alpha-type training or using a drill instructor's voice.
The dog you perceive as 'disobedient' is actually well-trained, though the concept of 'well-trained' can be subjective. I'm not attempting to prove the extent of my dog's training. My goal is to capture and share ALL training moments - the good, the challenging, and even the funny ones.
Just a reminder: You can’t really give useful dog training advice to someone based on a 10 second video you saw. Context matters, including the history of this dog and the relationship we have.
