I'm 65, my grandfather (pawpaw) was from Alexandria, Louisiana. Turtle was his favorite. As a kid, he took me places, in a boat, where I didn't know enough French to be allowed. He passed about 25 years ago. Thanks for the memories.
The last, and only, time I’ve had turtle with gravy and biscuits was in 1988 in Espanola, Ontario Canada. We were up there bear hunting and there were some good old boys from Tennessee who’d pulled their bass boats all the way up there. They got this MONSTER snapping turtle out of the lake, cleaned it up, and fed the whole hunting camp for days!
Jeff, enough with the production Friend. You got all of us fans and followers just being you, setting a phone on a stump, and talking to all of us through what you're doing. Add in some family every now and then and it's a win. These overproduced videos with jump cuts and bad audio are unnecessary. Bless y'all.
I am a native Montanan that used to live in Florida. Gigging frogs was a hoot. If you have them in south Bama, a vid on that would be fun. Perhaps Merle could help out. I sure do like that little guy!
Man I growed up over here to East of y'all and we would catch something in the woods are the creek and grandma would make it tastes better than any thing you can buy at the store God Bless Y'all and keep showing people how to live in hard times
I love everything about this video. Its got great cinematography. When I hear biscuits and gravy I automatically think of a white gravy, but that looked so good. Also Iv never thought of making a gravy like that.
Years ago, I was fishing a river with my boss from work when I noticed a snapping turtle the size of a golf ball swimming the surface. He wanted to pick it up thinking it was cute and I warned him. I've helped harvest fully grown snappers and I know even the babies will attack if you get too close. He picked it out of the water making sure to stay away from its mouth and that tiny little turtle was determined to take a finger off. When you catch a big one you want to eat, you purge it for a week before dispatch and then get it to bite a stick to make it easier and safer to decapitate. Its head will be dangerous for maybe days. It will still bite you. Same with a northern pike. Even after you chop it up, it could still bite. Crazy.
Love it! If I may critique the roux, do it in the oven in a cake pan and stir occasionally until you reach the color you are looking to achieve. You eliminate direct stove heat and it comes out perfect every time. No need to stay on it.
Having parents that came from the country and didn't have much they made it on what they had. Like fish, turtles, birds etc . kids these days have to have McDonald's etc to live. I love turtles, deer, squirrels, raccoons, fish and I could look in ve off the land. I don't need steaks, chickens ect. from no store. You can even get your vegetables of the free land God gave us not man💯💯💯💯💯💯👍🏾
can anyone tell me what the texture is like of a snapping turtle? I've eaten sea turtle before and it's texture is like steak but tastes like seafood with a salty taste of the ocean I'm wondering if they are the same.
crazy how so many do not know that brown grave is really over cooked white grave ...LOL my grandma did it prefect every time I'm about 70% of the time can get it just right ...its always good but when it just right it is amazing
@@Tyler-sv4sw a sharp knife cut through the neck below the chin or so. let him bite down and stretch it out. just beware of the head cause it will bite your kids and pets days later! no fooling

What? Brown gravy is not over cooked white gravy...there are numerous ways and flavors to make gravy.
You know the barron family eats good a little surprised theres no cast iron pans in action?
How you kill a snapping turtle?
You have to cut his head off and bleed him out
@@charleyt4965 butchers knife with a good chop or what?

Jeff’s forearms chewed up by catfish
The brown gravy is good but the gumbo would have been better. Thanks for the video 👍🏻
