I'm a Lance Missile veteran of the 2nd Battalion, 42nd FA, B Battery, (your missile launcher is marked 3rd Bn, A Bty) and I really appreciate the love, the time and the attention to detail that you gave this little model. I have no such patience left to build one of these, but I am happy to see our legacy continued this way. In 2/42 our official motto was "Strike Deep", but our unofficial motto was, "Nuke 'em 'till they glow!"

Lancer here too. Italian Army, Oderzo, 3rd Missile Battalion Volturno. I was the section commander for this bad boy. The fastest team in Italy in my day (to the chagrin of my academy colleagues. Maybe if they weren't assholes to their soldiers...) . I am going to try to replicate mine with the Volturno colors and emblem if possible. Ours was flat green, so that will be easier. Also I'd use some silver. Ours had the paint scraped off and down to metal.
"Nuke 'em 'till they glow!" my Lancer friend.

It's great to see a real hobby shop again. Many have disappeared over the years. To name a few Squadron, Polks, and even the English chain Beatties. There's nothing like walking the aisles and looking and picking up the boxes. Then go over to the display case and view all types of models people have proudly built and painted. I'm partial to 1/35, scale Tamiya and Dragon, but in my day mid 1970s I was into 1/72 scale--WW 2, Eastern Front. Now back to Andy. I applaud you for keeping this man's memories alive like many others who subscribe to your channel. I truly enjoy your videos on the latest models entering the market and how you construct them with good tips of whatever to do when this or that happens. you make it look effortless. Your painting techniques to your realistic weathering the vehicle makes them look so real. Thanks again, Andy with two super big likes. Ted

Andy.. I'm 69 and have not built Models since I was 6 to 17... right before I went into the Military. Since I've retired ...because I came across one of your videos...I've gotten back into the Hobby !! I've taken a M-4 Revell Sherman.. and a Renwal Twin Forty stamped 1960 ...back when I was 12 and cleaned off these AND MORE and restored them. Back then we didn't have all these neat Washes and Pigments ..and because of your Vids I've totally redid a lot of these old models.I'm about to order a my first Air Brush and paints...(wish me luck lol lol ) and some Armor kits. Your Videos are great... you instruct well and man am I greatful that I found your site !!!! THANK YOU !!! PS.. try the M-7 PREIST... you haven't done that one yet.

Hi Andy. This is a very well detailed Model. I served as a section chief in a Lance Missile firing platoon in
3rd Bn 79th FA , Rivers Barraks ( The Zoo ), Giessen, West Germany in the 70s and 80s.
There are just a few things wrong with this model. First of all there are no wooden running boards on top of the
sponsons inside the track. They showed incredible detail on the Launch Truss. That was the thing the missile
sits on top of. What I did not see were the ancillary equipment required to fire the Lance.
There should be a monitor programmer on the right side of the launch truss with a power cable going to the battery box
and a bigger umbilical cable going from the MP to the right side of the missile ( MMA ). We should also see the
container containing the GSU ( Gunner Sight Unit ) and the Firing device and cable reel. There would also be a boat tail
cover to protect the rear of the missile in transport.
If you were displaying the Lance in launch configuration you would have placed in front of the launcher
the 2 empty Control surface containers, the GSU unit and the boat tail cover.
Oh and please stop called the control surfaces fins!
Sharks have fins, '57 Chevys have fins.
The Lance Missile has Control Surfaces.
Now drop and give me twenty.

I am really pleased to hear that younger people are showing interest in the hobby .. I think manufacturers don't consider this demographic while they produce and market because a 15 yo person won't be able to afford almost any kit from today's hobby stores because prices are getting crazy.

Great looking build, but I caught 2 things. One, you didn't use all the tread pads and two, it looks like you dropped the missile retaining straps. They were round in the beginning and flattened later on. :) Once again great looking model

      @Bill23799 Před 6 lety

Hey Bill. I served as a section chief in a Lance missile Firing platoon in West Germany in the 70s and 80s.
The rocket engine of the Lance actually is covered by what is called a Boat tail. It does look just as shown
in this model. The boat tail gets blown away when the Missile is launched.
There was a Boat Tail cover that was placed over the boat tail to protect it during transport.

One night i thought that modeling was essentially dying as i was the only one of my town of 27,000 to do any modeling, But thanks to you and your tips and constant stream of long enjoyable content to watch everynight. You've have given us one of the first real good online platforms for modelling, its a little different then the model conventions and shows that we have to travel so far to get, and magically put to gether a 50k (hopefully by the time you see) person strong international model group. So, thank you for putting more modelers and models together and giving me a good reason to go on. (BTW I got a Maus).

Andy, if you're having trouble keeping your decals straight, try using a thin low tack piece of electrical tape as a rule for alignment. It would definitely help on some of those little yellow squares you were fiddling with as well as the white markings around 24:30
