Amazonia is such an amazing region. On this trip we went from Manaus to Autazes and then to a little community about 50 km south where we stayed the night. We went down the Amazon River and the Madeira, which is one of the biggest tributaries of the Amazon.
The second part of the River Trip was one of the scariest nights of my life. My father-in-law had told me that we were going to take the boat out that night to look for crocodiles which I was stoked about. Then we went over 20 minutes upriver, into no mans land and there were thousands of croodiles and the 4 of us on a tin boat, in 3-5 feet of water. I wish I would have had a night vision lens to give a better perspective but the orange glow you see in the video are all crocodile eyes.
On the taxi ride home we went through a region heavily affected by the wildfires and our taxi driver, Jandersen, shed some light on how bad they were and how little help they were provided with.
As you can see from the video, this was during the dry season when the river was extremely low and right at the tail end of some of the worst forest fires in recorded history. I will definitely go back closer to the rainy season and show this area in all its glory.
