  • In this video, I am going to put the 2020 HP Omen 15 and the Lenovo Legion 5i. I have run these two laptops through 14+ creator focused benchmarks covering video editing in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, motion design, graphic design, photo editing, 3D modeling, and more. ►⏩►⏩ Check specs and pricing in the links below…
    💻 Lenovo Legion 5i 16GB Model geni.us/Legion... - Commission Earned )
    💻 HP Omen 15 ( geni.us/Omen15... - Commission Earned )
Let’s talk about the look of these two laptops. Both have very similar appearances. The Legion 5i with its matte green and iridescent Legion badge, and the HP Omen with its deep matte gray top cover and iridescent shape. Regarding which one I would feel more comfortable in a client meeting, I would choose either one with confidence
Concerning the build quality each laptop stands out in its own right. The HP Omen with its plastic top cover, bottom cover, side panels and aluminum keyboard deck, and the Legion 5i with it’s all plastic build and soft-touch keyboard deck..
I am a big fan of the HP Omen’s redesign, especially since they added the aluminum keyboard deck, this is a nice touch. Regarding durability, these laptops are going to be about the same. The aluminum keyboard deck is nice, but I don’t think it will lead to THAT much of an improvement on how durable the laptop will be over the soft-touch plastic. All in all I give the Legion 5i and the HP Omen a tie on build quality.
The ports selections are quite different, and the HP Omen stole my heart with it’s built-in SD card reader. It is one of the only gaming laptops that still features this nifty little port for video editors and photographers.
    The HP Omen comes with:
    x2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
    USB 3.2 Gen 2 (power-off charging)
    USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort + Charging)
    HDMI 2.0
    Mini Display 1.4
    SD Card Reader
    Network Port
    Mic/headphone combo
And the Legion 5i comes with:
    USB-A 3.1 Gen 1
    3 x USB-A 3.1 Gen1
    USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort)
    HDMI 2.0
    RJ45 ethernet
    Mic/headphone combo
As I open the lid on each of these laptops I am able to do so with one hand. The hinges are smooth and strong. There is only a slight bit of screen flex that is equally present on the HP Omen and Legion 5i. I would rate the hinges as a tie-breaker. Both are solid and sturdy.
Before we move onto the screen quality I want to discuss the ventilation on these two laptops. Both the HP Omen and the Legion 5i have generous vents for cooling. They both have vents on the bottom cover, and behind the keyboard deck.
However the HP Omen has an extra vent on the top of the keyboard deck.
The Legion 5i has vents on both side panels, whereas the HP Omen only has a vent on the right side. But the HP Omen has a vent on the top of the keyboard deck where the Legion 5i does not. So I guess it all evens out.
The Lenovo Legion 5i comes with a 15.6 inch FHD 16x9 display that can reach 144Hs. At full brightness it can reach 350 nits with a color gamut range of 99% sRGB - 80% Adobe RGB - 80% DCI-P3.
For a gaming laptop this is a fantastic screen, and the HP Omen is just as impressive.
The HP Omen comes with a 15.6 inch FHD 16x9 display that can reach 144Hz. At full brightness it can reach 320 nits with a color gamut range of 91% sRGB - 74% Adobe RGB - 74% DCI-P3.
The Legion 5i comes with a numpad whereas the HP Omen does not. Personally I am completely fine with this detail because I have never used the numpad on any computer I have owned.
The HP Omen I am reviewing comes with:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H (8 Cores 16 Threads)
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
    Storage: 256GB SSD
Whereas the Lenovo Legion 5i comes with:
CPU: Intel 10th Gen Core i7-10750H (6 Cores 12 Threads)
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
    Storage: 512GB SSD
If you’re looking for a high performance Ryzen 7 laptop with an aluminum keyboard, great cooling performance, and one of the best keyboard decks and trackpads I have ever used, with a screen that has excellent color accuracy then you should be taking a look at the HP Omen.
However, if you’re looking for a handsome matte green laptop with a comfortable soft-touch keyboard deck that performs cool and fairly quiet while getting great benchmarks results in photoshop, video editing, 3D modeling and motion design, combined with a bright color accurate screen then you will want to snag the Lenovo Legion 5i.

Dude, the power button on the Legion 5 is white, that means it's in "Balanced mode". You should switch the thermal profile by pressing Fn+Q, to switch to "Performance Mode" (indicated by the red dot in the power button). This kinda nullifies all your comparisons.

I had a go at both devices and decided to go with the Legion 5. I feel that despite having no aluminum chasis, the Legion feels more well built as the HP has this weird flex. The keyboard for my taste is the Legion. I type a lot, answering emails everyday and the Omen's keyboard does not give me the tactile feeling

Thanks for the review...I think MANY people are evaluating these two systems as their potential next system. Overall these laptops are pretty evenly matched. It would be really interesting if you compared the Ryzen 4800H versions of BOTH laptops but the Intel vs Ryzen comparison is also very helpful because sometimes you can get diff components on an intel version vs amd version (e.g., you can get a 500nit panel with the Legion 5i (intel version) but not on the Legion 5 (amd version) and also the GPU's available may be different). One note...The HP Omen is actually much lighter than the specs state...several prominent viewers have the HP Omen coming in at just 4.64lbs (rather than the 5.4lbs? stated in the specs) compared with the Legion 5's 5.1lbs. Not sure why HP did this.
I was looking at both of these laptops and decided to go with the Legion 5 rather than the HP Omen largely because the Legion 5 (on sale) was a bit cheaper ($200) than the HP Omen and I also liked the fact that many of the ports of the Legion 5 are on the rear of the laptop versus the side...which just make things a LOT cleaner.
BTW when considering costs I would suggest that viewers price out the entire system including support so that they can get a true overall cost of the systems.

I just ordered a 17" 144hz DolbyVision Legion 5 with a Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB, and a RTX 2060 all for less than the base 17" configuration with my work partner discount.

@@math.x_1729 yes it is but there's no other option which runs so cool with 1660ti and r5 that too at this price. Soon I'll be buying a 144 hz monitor. If you ignore 60hz then this laptop is unbeatable at everything.

@[ARB] Evil Aura i do a lot of gaming. There is no idle fan noise. While gaming fans run pretty loud but that sound is like a jet plane taking off. Very satisfying not irritating like other laptops.
