The fact that she only realised she was gay because of social conditioning at college is terrifying wow

it’s really not a lot of people discover their sexuality in college

@@audramcdonaldapologist3676 why? College is also where people feel the need to fit in the most in their life. If you are what you are then shouldn't you have felt it your whole life? If your identity changes based on who you're surrounded by, is it really yours??

you’re right, maybe they always felt that way but didn’t realize they were actually gay or they felt the need to hide it and came out now for whatever reason but from my experience it was because they were raised in an environment unfriendly to LGBTQ+ folks also some people were very sheltered and weren’t raised really knowing a lot about sex and sexuality, hell, some parents didn’t even give their kids “the talk” and discovered their sexuality in college when they finally learned about it, High School/college is also the time a lot of people have sex for the first time so it makes sense why they would focus on that aspect of themselves during that time
and about your identity changing based on who you are surrounded by: sexuality isn’t a switch you can turn on and off and that is why conversion therapy doesn’t work, your sexual identity doesn’t 100% change based on who you are surrounded by, you were always like that and now you are more comfortable expressing it, you don’t “become” a sexuality, that doesn’t happen
Plus not every college has a lot of gay people in them, a lot of conservative institutions don’t and they exist 🤷🏾‍♀️ and they still have gay people there but just not many so is it still influenced by your environment if that is the case?
I would say High School is more of the time to fit in because you are still a dependent and a minor by law and still have to do follow adult orders but also want to be your own person, as someone who is in college, it is not about fitting in, college is about doing what you want to do and gaining independence, what you wrote about college being a time of fitting in sounds like projection and the way you are thinking about this is odd to say the least
