  • How to Mulch a Garden. Gardening doesn't have to be a lot of work, especially if you use mulch in your vegetable and ornamental beds and pathways. Mulch is a huge garden timesaver because it helps prevent weeds, reduces the need to water, moderates soil temperatures, adds organic matter to the soil as it breaks down and helps your garden look tidy. what I find is good as well is rather than trying to weed out all the weeds from around the tree or plant you wanna care for, is to place a nice thick layer of mulch on top of the smaller weeds. they get starved of sunlight and you get all the benefits of mulching.

We've been putting cardboard down then the mulch and/or leaves on top of that, we've been doing that for 4 years now !

Don’t remember anyone saying to water thoroughly before applying mulch. I’ll have to make sure I do that.

Off topic so excuse me. But I put myself in a crappy situation. I had some "bald" spots on my grass so I used a Scott's fertilizer and over used it. I now have big brown spots all over my grass. Any suggestions?

724davemo Use a good quality lawn insecticide to deal with insect damage, the added fertilizer damaged the grass by adding more stress to your grass. I prefer Bay-er Com-plete in a silver bag, use in May & August to target grubs.

Last year, hardwood mulch was used around my tomato plants and it was loaded with Spider Mites.. Not a good experience using mulch.

heavymechanic2 Are they real tomato plants? Mulching doesn't work well on non fruiting tomato plants.

@@uni000ver000sal do people really grow non fruiting tomato plants? I cannot see any logic in doing that lol. Or...
it just dawned on me you may be referring to a different plant

A nice video but just one suggestion. Not to be mean but you should not say 'your gonna wanna' do such and such. You may not realize you are saying it multiple times and it just does not sound professional. Just a tip.
