earl was by far the worst ive seen live, ive been to over 80 concerts. his music doesn't translate well to a live setting, but i still consider him a living legend, & feel lucky to have seen him for that reason

Its my fav track. Haunting beat. Idk what Fantano is on about it not being on the beat--i felt they were locked into the pocket of that groove. Especially how MIKE switched it into a double time triplet flow. Shits crazy

imho, it sucks, earl phoned it in, his lyrics are very typical, honestly indistinguishable from his other songs, delivery is extremely slurred and low energy, beat is repetitive and honestly sounds like an amateur copy of an earl type beat. mike, well hes just fine. i think the song its below earl’s skill level and creativity, and either the beat shouldve been left on the cutting room floor or he should’ve dedicated a lot more time to his pengame and mike either should be replaced or bar tf up. i know earl can, idk mike that well so idk if hes capable. one of my least favourite earl songs.

its crazy cuz mikes new album "burning desire" is actually goated
Sentry is haunting, the rythm of the song is intensly catchy, even though they're "flowing with no regard for the groove the loop is pringing" the fact that their free from this groove creates on other kind of groove, letting this voice feel like a complaint in the background. MIKE coming like this with totally different flow, is bring a second breath, taking us in an other rythm but still immerged in that deep ambiance the music brings.
Sentry is fire, it"s giving very peculiar energy, heavy, and deep.

Saw Earl perform this live last night in Honolulu and it was fantastic. He looked happy. Some concert goers were unprepared for this new era of Earl, and were disappointed with the lack of his performances of his older, darker tracks.

Earl And The Alchemist both work excellent like PB&J. An easy High 8 to light 9 on this album for me. "The Caliphate" is my favorite song on this project, Earl and Vince absolutely went hard! My only issue is that who thought it was a good idea to release the album as a NFT?

Always interesting when people have opposite reactions. Sentry feat. MIKE is likely my most played song of 2023. I have a chronic health condition and when my brain fog and headache gets really bad I play that song and it feels healing

i feel like the "ended mid-thought" flow works to paint a sort of scrobble on the page feel. almost like the song is a daydream during lunch with a friend or something, snapping back and moving on imo.
truly one of the best releases of the year, Uncle Al beats with Earl lyrics are so amazing, they could have done better here but I really content with the result tho, and even so it is better than the mainstream releases of this year
i actually liked mike's flow on sentry....it's a 6/8 feel but he spits over it like 4/4. at least that's how I hear it.

Good to hear this went well, it did feel like Earl was in a weird spot artistically for a bit there. Sounds like this was in the right direction, I'll check it out.
This album was made 2 years ago and only got released recently so earl will more than likely keep on the trajectory he was on before this album. (Which I'm fine with I liked his most recent album)
It would've been a riot if this was worse than For All the Dogs💀

@Col2k I’ve only been watching his second channel with some album reviews here and there. im kinda new to his upload schedule on the main channel
I would advise Melon to listen to All the Small Things and My Brother, the Wind as well. I actually prefer the Caliphate over Geb, but I feel that the album is better with the other two tracks in. All the Small Things is more potent and impactful than Heat Check to me, and My Brother, the Wind has some of the best Alchemist production on the entire record.

for me, this one and Faith is a Rock by Mike and Wiki are 10's, such fresh production by Al and such poetic presence by the rappers

Really enjoy earls verse off Sentry, especially the ghost in the shell reference.
maybe I’m jus a Earl rider but this album was an easy 10 for me. I look at this and Some Rap Songs like how it look at MM…FOOD and Madvillainy from DOOM; equals but prefer one over the other depending on your mood

Dooms most praised records are pretty overrated in terms of sound, there are albums with similar soundscapes that have more to offer musically.
3:12 no regard for the groove beneath them on sentry? earl is rapping in a 6/8 waltz flow and then mike switches it to a 4/4, there’s a very intentional regard and switchup happening to the groove beneath them

Fantano wasn’t listening on Heat Check. The end chorus of that song was my favorite part of the album. “I heard she was hooking out west like Kareem did” 🔥
He also lost me with Sentry. He isn’t a fan of MIKE tho
I really did not like this album first time i listened to it. But after watching this i decided to give it a listen and i would give it honestly a light 7 / 10.

I really wish you would have mentioned the tracks My Brother, the Wind, All The Small Things and Geb. While they might not be available on streaming services (and even worse, Gala music exclusives) Earl and Alchemist have stated that they are Voir Dire tracks all the same. It’s a shame less people will dig for these tracks (all on youtube) because they are all exceptional, maybe even some of Earls best.
Also it’s unfair to say Earl hasn’t evolved much since 2018 because some of these songs were recorded as early as 2019 for different unreleased alchemist projects, including the ‘secret’ album hidden on youtube in 2019, also Earl has been previewing some of these tracks at shows for years now.
The lyrical intensity is gone. His lyrics are still poetic, but the multi-syllable filled, passionate bars. Lets be real, most older Earl fans, want the OLD (pre -IDLSIDGO) Earl on some Alchemist beats. BUT! I can say Alchemist did a great job matching Earl's energy. Its obviously not the old Earl, but its a new Earl that still fits ALC.
PS- The Vince Staples tracks should of been on the original release.
Edit: Someone said it in the comments but I agree "I just wish my favorite artists record with some passion into their art, like they give a fuck. Not this monotone, mumble shit, like they were on muscle relaxers and said fuck it."

In the past (eg JPEGMAFIA's LP!) he's gone out of his way to focus on the most authentic version of albums, which the OG tracklist of Voir Dire most certainly is. Voir Dire is definitely an album I can listen to all the way through with no skips. Love alcs production ofc and I love Earls happier cooler bars since he’s usually in a dark state. Very good album and the album cover is 🔥

I like the track wit mike. The words lift you like the sample “peace when I’m rollin around” just hit different and sets the tone for the rest. Masterful execution but I get what you mean about the flow but I think it’s a continuous semi heavy head nod track.

The "Earl hasn't grown artistically since Some Rap Songs" criticism isn't especially valid for this album because a lot of it was written and recorded 2-4 years ago. My Brother, the Wind is from 2019.
