      @@troymcclure681 He didn't do it out of guilt, or for redemption.
      He did it because Kim was in danger. She'd confessed to Howard's wife. If Jimmy didn't take the heat for Howard's death, his wife would've sued Kim over it and taken everything she had... which, at that point, wasn't much. Jimmy confessed to everything because he still loved Kim and didn't want to see her life go to shit the way his had (even if she deserved it).

      Indeed. The main example being when he convinced Hank that Gale wasn’t actually the master chemist. He just couldn’t bear to see a subordinate receive the credit, even when it was to his own detriment. He was foolish. The Gray Matter fiasco clouded his judgement.

    Walt overreacted a bit here IMO. Gus was trying to intimidate Walt and basically get him to stay the F out of the way, but killing a DEA agent and his entire family would've brought wayyy too much heat, and Gus is smarter than that. Walt should have been concerned, but only for Hank, he didn't need to rush to Saul and call the disappearer, he wasn't in actual danger from Gus.

    • @Ryan88881
      @Ryan88881 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yet Gus's response to that was still both perfect and true. Jesse even himself knew Walt's seemingly never ending mission to be Hank's unflinching guardian angel or whatever was now transforming from maybe a little quirky and odd at first to now officially being over the top and fairly melodramatic. At a certain point, I'm sorry but the dude playing with fire has to get burned. It was no one else's fault. Logical consequence. It could be argued in some crazy sense even that Hank would have "wanted" to at least die in the line of duty rather than dying relatively young but for some purposeless reason.

  • @Ryan88881
    @Ryan88881 Před 2 měsíci +5

    Part of me now wonders if Jesse could have ever, possibly, just maybe could have convinced Walter to let Gus take out Hank. I mean he was simply just his brother in *law* but not an actual blood brother, or even a really close friend. The conversation probably would've eventually veered off into being about Jesse almost being like an informal child of his "alter ego" and the "identity of his alias. Either way, Hank was working in law enforcement and in some pretty serious departments and essentially in the line of fire. It was impractical of Walt to think he should have done all that he did just to try and save Hank from sticking his nose where it arguably doesn't belong in the first place, at least not without logical consequences.

    • @UniversalLopes
      @UniversalLopes Před 2 měsíci +3

      Walter would NEVER allow this, in various cases you can see that he says "Hank is family", they are like brothers
      Also, after Hank died, a part of Walter died too

    • @Ryan88881
      @Ryan88881 Před 2 měsíci

      @@UniversalLopes Uh, well yeah lol. I've seen the show mate. And yes, Walt says he is 'family' and Walter maintains this, largely just symbolic 'kinship' mind you, and this traditionalist civic formality relating to "in-laws" via his own 'fuzzy logic' about what actually constitutes "family". He just gives this whole quasi-artifical "bonding" between them tons of undue weight pretty much throughout the whole series so yes, we know. But pragmatically speaking, that's a silly and illogical viewpoint, and arguably even harmful. We know Walter's "logic" and heuristic reasonings for it. But by no means is it the correct or practical approach. They were NOT like brothers. Not even close. They weren't even particularly close "friends" and I'm sorry, but the whole 'being a non-blood relative' thing is pretty much the deal breaker. Hank may have been a decent guy to hangout with but he was clearly a major thorn in various peoples' lives. And I don't think I have to even reiterate that old classic saying about playing with fire. Hank was basically on the front lines of the very real Drug War.

      Not to be rude; it's just quite a surface level observation to make, that if Walt let Hank die, Walt would be safer for it in his illegal dealings. I don't know what more you're trying to say than that.
      Walt has far less control over his emotions than someone like Mike, who has decades worth of mental hardening under his belt from his police work and time in Gustavo's business. Walters background by comparison makes him ill-equipped to handle being in the drug business. He can be ruthless, but he isn't the hollowed out man Gustavo Fring is inside; he's an emotionally frustrated, unstable man who wants the power Gus has, and will imitate that attitude to obtain.
      You seem to put great value on blood relations, over non blood relations. Personally, I think it matters less in life who you share blood with, to whom you have a familial bond with. And I think we're meant to get the impression that Walt and Hank have such a bond.
      The point I'm trying to make is that who Walter is, puts him at odds with ever doing such a thing imo; it's very much the point that he's self destructive. But never crossing that particular line left him just enough humanity to try and do what he considered to be the right thing at the very end.
