Re-watching this scene makes me think of a Mike scene from Better Call Saul when he's talking to Pierce. "I didn't say you were a bad guy, I said you were a criminal".
Gale never accepted his role as a criminal. He thought he was just a chemist, that he wouldn't get involved with the grittier aspects of the business, that he could live a normal life outside of the lab. But he ignored his phone, he just carelessly opened his door, and didn't immediately have suspicions of this complete stranger who shows up at his door.

3:29 Why was Walter so relaxed and acting badass? He was in fact lucky Gale didn’t pick up the phone, if he did he would have been pretty far by when Jesse arrived. And higher chances are that one does indeed answer a call, and also doesn’t have a weird music playing in the background that doesn’t let you hear it.
If I was Walter, I would have being praying for Gale not answering Mike’s call while sh*tting my pants in the process.

@@Luca-dk9we I’d say 20% genius, 80% luck. Granted, he had a plan, and a good one. But the facts are: when someone calls you, most of the times you answer immediately or return the call in a couple of minutes. Having the music loud, having the cellphone in silence, while he knew that Jesse was going to Gale’s house but he wasn’t gonna make it there in a minute or two, chances are that Gale would have answered the call, get out of there, Jesse would have arrived to an empty house or being ambushed, and Walt would have been killed. Good plan, but relying on luck a little too much considering his life was at stake (and he behaved like a badass).
I’m not complaining, the scene is very good. It’s just that I always found Walt’s attitude to be too calm and confident when there were more chances that his plan would fail than succeed. And he should have been nervous also because he knew Jesse wasn’t a killer, there was a chance that Jesse wouldn’t have been able to do it, or hesitate until Victor arrived. He saw Mike immediately picking up the cellphone and calling Gale, and he was all gangsta right there when he should have been sh*tting his pants (BTW, I would have loved too see his face if Gale would have answered).
But like someone else said here, plot armor is serious business.

He was acting like that because Jesse could get to Gale quickly as proven by the insane lead he had on Victor. He basically won when he was able to sic Jesse on Gale, even if Gale got the call and retreated, Jesse likely could have ambushed him before he got in the car.

I'm jealous of people who'll watch this moment for the first time

  • @tigerdragonmartialarts2172

Wow dude. Just did a big rewatch of BB and TWD. The mentioning of certain states, characters names, gotta be connected. Its like two different branches of one tree

the look on mikes face is priceless. considering he works for gus, it takes a different monster to evoke that kind of emotion from mike

Gale: I wonder what temperature the boiling water in this kettle is, better check it with my infrared thermometer.

Walt is a super genius. Would have loved Sopranos with Walt as an antagonist or breaking bad with tony in it lmao

People constantly underestimating Walt is a clear thread throughout the whole series.

The funny thing about an infrared temperature gun is it doesn't read off of polished surfaces accurately.

Me just now realizing that that death of Brock’s mother was a book end to this scene.
Jesse could’ve conned and killed his way out of his predicament but he tried to straight up escape which got him caught and her killed.

He couldn't con his way away from Jack and his gang. He already ratted Todd out to the DEA and they would have killed him if Todd didn't suggest enslaving him to be their meth cook. They would have no reason to let him go or work with him as equals as he is making them millions and he's already shown to not be trustworthy. Jesse's only hope was to try and escape.

Not wise from Jesse to use a gun without silencer, likewise coming in a residential area without a disguise.

He was under extreme pressure to get it done and done as fast as possible, seeing that Walt literally told him that he was about to get killed. He had no time. We don't even know if he knew where his ski mask was.

This scene is an excellent example of how selfish, manipulative, and opportunistic Walter has become as he has progressed through the criminal underworld.
