When Conan was chewing gum during the Japanese etiquette session and was chewing a ridiculous amount of gum, I had assumed it was just for the comedy. But now I realize that was really the amount of gum he chews.
The best comedy is real. He’s an enigma.
Conan was also always chewing gum during rehearsal, you can see in those scraps clips. I think it'd be interesting if they do a count of how much he spends on gum per month lol
Exactly what I was thinking. XD
That's exactly what I was about to comment 😂
Yeah that’s what I thought
Conan was one wrong childhood moment away from chain smoking and strangling hookers when he's extremely displeased. Glad he took on comedy.
I'm pretty sure he does both
"There's a grave waiting for me and I've got to get to it." Good grief, that was a revealing deep dive into Conan's psyche that actually struck a chord of familiarity with me, too.
Same here. Hope you have found healthy ways to cope and/or have supportive friends like Conan does.
The grave may be waiting, but it's also not going anywhere. It'll be there when the time comes.
@@joyofsoxthis is very helpful thank you for sharing
this is literally "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop"
Veterinary technician here with a PSA Conan made me think of: xylitol is an artificial sweetener that's highly toxic to dogs, so if you give your dogs people food like peanut butter, be sure to check the ingredients for xylitol. I feel like that's not as widely known as "chocolate is bad for dogs".
Edit* just wanted to add a few more little known no-no's for pets: grapes, onions, garlic, avocados, various species of plants like most succulents, lilies and cacti, etc, poinsettias, rhododendrons, there's more, but long story short:
If it's not pet food, don't give it to your pet. Cheese, peanut butter, hot dogs, fine. Cooked steak? That's a quick way to possibly give a dog pancreatitis. Canned tuna for a cat? Most domestic cats don't have a digestive system equipped to deal with saltwater fish and the sodium content can cause kidney damage. It's just best practice to give your pet food recommended by a veterinarian.
-With love for Conan's fans and Conan's fans pets, a humble vet tech.
I did not know that. Thank you!
So a dog can eat turds, but not artificial sweetener..
@@strandvaskeren Turd is organic...lol
@@strandvaskeren technically a dog that eats its own turd already ate that turd, it was just in a different form when they initially ingested it 😆 turds are organic and if your dog eats turds, you may want to look at the dogs diet and adjust it, dogs often eat poop because they're instinctively compelled to by nutrient deficiency, their body makes them think there's something more to be gained by eating their waste.
@@TeacherDanPotato my name is Dan too! Great name, and you're quite welcome my friend.
Sona accidentally brought up all Conan's insecurities with one comment. True friends hahaha
I love how they can just talk about nothing and turn it into something hilarious. Conan, Gourley, and Sona are really magical together.
Its Conan
Notice Andy Richter isnt doing anything these days no shade to Andy but the talent is Conan

conan: "you think this is 2inches then i'm in good shape"
sona: "oh mahhhn...."
😂😂😂😂😂😂
That joke is only funny the first 5 thousand times i heard it so no need to repeat it.
@@pissoff234 maybe you should stop telling people it's 2 inches
@@pissoff234 "You think this is 2 inches, then I'm in good shape" you're welcome!!
I like to believe after this episode ended Sona went and gave Conan a hug. He really needs one.
And a friend? Ha. I'm glad his OCDs aren't harmful. It could be substances. My husband has some things like that. And it IS get this done! His cleaning, sucks. Fixing, sucks. But so does his dad's. And it is, just get this done! It's not the correct attitude towards cleaning or repairs. Exercise, to me, is just get it done.
His bones can't handle a hug with his lack of vitamin D
I don't think I've seen Conan's hair styled like that. Looks fine as hell.
6:11 One of the podcast's finest moments. Conan's ability to spin out that series of jokes out of nowhere is absolute genius!
Ive been watching conan in some form for 30 years. Ive never related so closely to him as I did while watching this video
It’s weird he’s his most relatable nowadays at his richest and his current peak.
I actually felt validated watching this. His explanation about eating is totally me
"Trident original flavor... whatever that means- oh, with gravy!"
I swear I feel like being close friends with this man is a irl try not to laugh challenge. He's a genius of wot and improv!
Conan is just one lab accident away from being a Supervillain. Jokes aside, more often than not we hear about high-functioning evil people. It is a delight to find great people who are high-functioning. This man directs his compulsions into great things. In my limited experience, I can confidently say that Conan has a habit of reaching beyond the noblest grasp. This is why I have always been in awe of this man.
I like how you just called Conan autistic in the nicest way possible lol
It's interesting that you use functioning labels, because I am certain Conan has undiagnosed ADHD
This clip here is evidence of ADHD with related dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder.
Dyspraxia is neurologically based clumsiness, but also includes not knowing intuitively how much strength to use for a task.
I have ADHD and dyspraxia, and I have broken every zipper on every jacket I've ever worn. I break pencil leads every few seconds while drawing.
A lot of ADHDers find their way into comedy because it's a place where our eccentric traits become positives.
[TW: mental health, substance abuse, self-harm, suicide]
Mental health issues are very common among adult ADHDers because not all of us find healthy outlets for our hyperactivity or weird brains.
Our rates of drug and alcohol abuse are very high. Our rates of anxiety and depression are very high.
When you combine ADHD and autism, our rates of attempted or completed suicides are very high.
Jim Carrey has ADHD and depression and came from a poor family. I am very glad that he found comedy, acting, art, and everything else he does to keep himself sane.
The Northern English comedian Lee Mack recently came out as an ADHDer. He is very active with work, hobbies, and meditation. His half-brother unfortunately died by suicide many years ago.
ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions, like autism, can be the result of random mutations, but they are also genetic. ADHD and autism run in my family, and I have had family members end up hurting themselves and/or others, leading to death or jail.
Those of us who learn to manage our atypical brains and bodies are very blessed / lucky. I am also so thankful for the internet, which has allowed me to research my conditions and connect with other neurodivergent people.
This one landed perfectly. Sona is not being too combative, Conan gets mostly uninterrupted moments of inspired nonsense, and the punchline is solid.
Combative? I watched the whole video and if anything, Sona was being very nice🤣
Combative...might not be the right word 😬
@@Alphacentauri819 The word seems to have attracted a little more attention than I was expecting. I feel some of these pre-show conversations are marred by too much toxic couple style squabbling. Not funny, but that's just my opinion.
@@tylermoore4429 that's interesting you see it that way. It seems like complete jest, no harm intended, observation.
Many times, people who have very low tolerance for conflict (even if only perceived conflict) can often have paradigms that are warped towards that view...even when conflict doesn't exist.
Also, if they are extremely conflict averse, they see any thing that isn't perfected agreement, in negative/confrontational lenses.
Squabbles, btw (which this wasn't at all) often point to much deeper roots...but due to each party's investment in self protection, their idea being "right" they fail to see opportunities for connection.
Those with dismissive avoidant attachment style, are way more likely to see an interaction that is mostly neutral (like this) as "combative"...along with calling normal couple disagreements.."squabbles" which to one means "combative" and to another means a normal dynamic of couples.
It's interesting because I've studied psychology, relationships, communication, couples, for decades, worked in medicine and had thousands of patients...and am now working towards a PhD in neuroscience. What we believe is not always a reflection of absolute truth, but of our own biases, fears, conditioning (powerfully from childhood, and also society), cognitive distortions, limiting beliefs and so on.
Even a belief like this having a "combative" dynamic, is a call to employ metacognition and introspection...vs believe our assessment outright.
Be well
@@tylermoore4429 the "toxic couple style squabbling" has been sona and conan's dynamic for almost a decade...
Finally, someone who understands gum.
This was an absolute informal low-key therapy session for Conan!
The classic bubblicious/bubble yum size is the standard in my eyes. What are these new gums made for ants?!
I could listen to a full cd of Sona laughing.
Conan is an absolute genius. Love how he can turn even a dumb unstructured conversation into a bit with a punchline on the fly lol
"we'll be back with more boring bets" LMAO! I JUST DIED
Conan chewing a bunch of gums at once put in my mind the image of Ace Ventura at the end of the movie where he spit a huge amount of gum from his mouth back into the wrapper to save it for later.
This is like how it was with the metal straws the sucking versus masticating noises. The crew really shows their orally fixating colors.
I like how these have been therapy sessions for conan
If I ever get a chance to go on this podcast as a fan, I will point out that Conan made an error at 5:43 by saying "macular", because what he really means is "masticatory". I'd like to hear his response 😂
Omg thank you for clarifying that! Hope he finds this and responds.
Yeah... caught it right away too.
😂 I hope you do get to be in one of the Conan needs a fan episodes because I miss his fan corrections bits.
I'm a physician, and the error hit me like a brick. I guffawed a, "what!!" Conan usually astounds me with his intellect, but he sure bonered that one. Must be the lingering effects of the chill chum.
@@oldaddyduncks Haha, that was essentially my response too! I had to rewind the podcast and listen to it again to make sure I wasn't the one who was hearing things. Too much chill for the chum indeed!
It's amazing how rewatchable these episodes are.
Loving the new HD clips! I would enjoy videos of the whole podcast for people like myself who don't process audio-only formats well, but I imagine that'd be a lot of editing. Thank you for sharing Team Coco, always entertaining and wonderful!
All these years loving Conan and I find out just now that we chew gum the same way! LOL
I think the way he eats comes from being in a big family, if you don't eat your food fast someone else is going to take it away from you and eat it. And possibly his Irish family experience or know about the Irish famine, I remember he has mentioned being with his grandma many times and telling stories about her early years and how much she suffered.
This is a good assessment
Really? I know both sides of his family go back as Americans pretty far. And although from a big family his dad is an Epidemiologist & the mom an attorney.
@@samanthab1923 In another clip, I think with Stephen Colbert, Conan talks about his 23andMe test results coming back with saying "100% Irish."
I have to finish the plate. Idc if im not hungry, i have to finish it.
6: 21 is my favorite from the clip. Matt is so so quick.
God, Conan is sooo cute! 😊 so huggable
I’m the EXACT same. Good to know I can relate to the Great Conan.
Conan would have knocked Violet over racing to the Blueberry gum in the movie "Willie Wonka" ...
conan is an absolute gem
Loves Conan. Two things at the same time. The gum thing im not sure if its oral fixation or anxiety. The hand squeezing is stimming... stimulating... part of being on the spectrum.
hey person! this reply made me look up "stimming". And now I finally have an answer for my life's grand mystery; "why was never like the other kids?" thank you.
omg i started watching conan again with sona loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
When you want to chew gum for a long time, but the Harvard in you doesn't want to deal with it. 😆😆😆
🤣🤣 He is thinking its a task that "hes gotta get done" while chewing gum
Points deducted for not munching like Nixon….. *MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH”
I've yet to find a stick of gum that is big enough. They are all way too small. That is why multiple pieces are needed.
Bubble Tape let you take as much as you wanted but it tastes like plastic so it's a no go.
I can relate to this on so many levels
I laughed my head off when Conan chewed a ton of gum during the Japanese lessons. Now I feel bad he has an ocd condition 😢
Do Not, I repeat do Not drink any bewerage while watching any of Conan's podcasts.. I almost died laughing 😅
"I need to get this done so I can get to my grave"
I am glad I am not alone.
I miss Conan’s show in the hour format on TBS. Saw him live early on there.
At least we know Conan has nice breath.
I just ordered Sona's book on Amazon. I can't wait for it.
I'm the same way with gum. It's a sickness!! haha
Conan may just be the funniest person who ever lived, and I'm serious. Sure, there have been funnier jokes and better build ups (Norm), but to constantly be so funny when others stay funny for five years, then lose it. Conan has continued to grow as a comedian for nearly four decades.
3:17 I've referenced what Conan says here to my therapist, that's how much I relate to this.
THIS IS WHY HE DOESN'T HAVE A FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!! LOL thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
omg I finally found someone who does the same with gum packets. When I was a kid, bubble tape was not safe around me.
It is refreshing the way Conan reveals his humanity. Now I just imagine that Brad Bitt and Scarlett Johanssen also have bad gum habits.
I wish my coworkers were like this, every conversation would be hilarious 🤣
This gum habit is perfectly acceptable when dealing with "fruit stripe" and "juicy fruit".
My parents would not allow us to have gum as I was growing up. I vividly remember, as a child, spending the day with my grandparents and they let me choose a “treat” at the store. I chose a pack of fruit stripe gum (I always chose gum in those situations because it seemed like the greatest thing in the world to me, since i wasn’t allowed to have it). I remember going into my grandparent’s backyard, and systematically opening every single piece of gum and putting it in my mouth all at once. It was a terrible experience lol.
@@MrThedennisblack awww 🥺 pretty sure Fruit Stripe gum was just trolling kids now that I think about it.. just mean
i bet it took you 4 sticks of zebra to get through this sentence
Some at Team Coco please show Conan the "Long Long Man" Sakeru Gum Japanese commercials. I bet he would LOVE it, it has a story, its funny and it would be a great conversational piece for a podcast.
Conan! I love you!! 😄🤪💯
I do the same thing. Me thinks Sona is the odd one out. I'm at least an 8 stick kinda guy. Edit: I'm from the Northeast and I forget how unnecessarily violent we make things look lmao
It just occurred to me that so is Conan. Most of us up here always do things very quickly even if there is no reason too.
Mmmm, sorry Andrew, but you and Conan are not the normal ones.
Celebrate it!
Why did you turn into a caveman and say,"Me thinks Sona is the odd one out" lol
My first reaction was, “Of course. You don’t?”
(Maybe not if it’s Hubba Bubba or Bubbilicious. And of course the whole conversation is irrelevant with Big League Chew.)
I hope you got a good dental insurance
Conan is a classic Aries… Go, go, go!
The need to “accomplish” finishing the gym pack….I’m the same way with every kind of cookie or candy box 😂. I can’t go to sleep knowing there’s a partially full box in the cupboard.
Yeah, my wife buys me about 20 packs of gum at a time, and they’re all gone in a couple of weeks. Same things for tic tacs or small chewables. Conan you’re perfectly normal! :)
Or maybe you both are just as insane 👀
I've had a pack of gum for like 4 years. Its all stale now.
Couple of weeks.....
@@crazyspace6792 I meant days ;)
@@ok9908 it’s a coin flip
suddenly the conan in Japan remote where he says "I chew a lot of gum" hits different snd makes total sense 😅 I thought it was a gimmick
I can relate to Conan on this because I do the same thing!
Trident: The Devil’s Gum!
After listening to Conan's podcasts I now know his favorite pen and gum. Ooh I hope I get to find out what his favorite toothpaste is. I'm on the edge of my seat 😂
this is great. I love hubba bubba gum those are my favorite
Hi, where can I watch the entire podcast or it's only audio?
My weird gum habit is pull my dentures out of my mouth then mash the gum in between my gums and that's how I chew gum. The kids used to look at me all weird when I did that back when I was a school bus driver but they have no idea how good juicyfruit is probably because I wouldn't give them any. (Spearmint is also good)
That last joke got an actual lol
Conan is speed running life.
I’m not gonna lie, I do the same thing that Conan does with gum lol. It loses it flavor quick
totally agree
Chews gum just like I do. I like the icebreaker square gum pieces. I’ll shove 6-7 in my mouth at a time…and then spit it out after 5-10 minutes. 😂
I just tried the Trident Vibes spearmint. Small square pieces too. It’s the best! Stays minty for quite awhile.
@@yoliebean I’ll have to look for that next time I go to the store!
I can’t get enough of the Ice Breakers Wintergreen myself.
The icebreaker cube gum. Exactly what I do, but with 4 cubes. It's normal!
@@evenflowsteven I hope you try it! It’s my fav of the square type, plastic contain style gum. And I’ve tried them all!

I chew a ton of gum to help me calm down. I have bad anxiety a lot and gum combined with meds helps me cope. Icebreakers Ice Cubes are my jam.
Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol found in plants, including many fruits and vegetables. It has a sweet taste and is often used as a sugar substitute.
Now you know. 😃👍
I do this to sometimes 😂
I've literally been listening to this podcast since the 1st episode and I am just now realizing that I never knew what Matt Gourley looks like
Right from the start you can tell how Conan's gum chewing rituals have been burning Sona out for years.
3:30 most Aries thing I've ever heard "angry hast" hahah love u guys!
I have been catching myself lately eating too fast. Like I have to get through it and on to the next thing. I get it.
What was that segment on the CO'''B-show that featured your complete incompetence, laid bare by the savage masses?? Love ya' Conan!! Long time fan!
Xylitol is a sweetener made from birch I think. Like vanilin can be made from spruce.
7:44 The BBG
What would Conan do with Bubble Tape? Just do the entire container at once? (Which would be a yard of gum).
Lol, I do the same thing. I don't think there's some weird psychological thing about not having enough food or something. It's just that one thin piece doesn't feel like a good chew, like there's not enough substance or body to it, it's like chewing a sliver of jerky or I guess half a piece of gum for normal people.
When I was a kid I used to indulge in all 6 feet of the bubble tape at once. It was overwhelming to chew but that was the fun!
Bro Conan I do that with gum too. I eat huge amounts of gum and then chew for a little time. This is so funny I feel the same way.
"Sticks in your mouth" lol
Conan can be a bullying badass but he's also insecure and cute.
omg that is how I chew gum!! I thought I was the only one LOL!!!
These podcast are the best thing I've ever seen/heard on CZcams. But i am interested, where can I Iisten to it? Not talks with celebrities, but an 1-hour long podcast of just three of them?
You can't, it's just the intros and endings
"boring bets" would totally be a tv channel on late night surfing channel bits
If we had an apocalypse and the Late Night Talk Show Hosts had to come together as one unit to rule the world and bring order, I'd want Conan as the King.
Conan takes a sideways bite of tape gum rolls.
I never really thought of chewing more than one stick of gum before. This news has opened up a flood gate for me. I'm chewing more than on stick of gum from now on.
Grave bit got me outta nowhere, FUNNY🤣🤣
Seems relatable
When I got Fruit Stripe gum, I would also chew many sticks at a time, because each stick would holds its flavor for approximately five seconds.
I do this with gum too!! But one piece at a time.
Sona has the thickest, most gorgeous brown hair I've ever seen. You KNOW that's not a weave or anything cause her hair has looked like that from moment one!
