The 1st Gen 4Runner is pretty useless without a working rear window / Tailgate.
I recommend you service the tailgate of your 1st gen 4runner once a year. It's a 30 minute task that can prolong the life of your truck for years and years to come.

The key mechanism on my 1st gen tailgate is completely seized can’t turn the key at all. How do you take apart that key mechanism you said not to take apart 🤣? Also how much did it cost to get yours painted?

I briefly explain it starting at 3:13 in the video. Just be careful as you're pulling it out, it's spring loaded and you might lose some parts if you're not paying attention. Also, take good note of the configuration of the tumbler inside, maybe take some photos before you pull it apart...
The cost of the paint will vary because I got the friends and family discount. But you can expect to pay between $4k to $6k for a paint job like this that includes prepping and sanding the whole car down, removing the shell, sanding it, and reinstalling it. It's a lot of work.

My window will not go up and down. What do you suggest? I do not hear the motor working or humming.

Hot wire the window regulator motor connector with a 12v battery to see if the motor is working. If it is, could be the window control module which is behind the drivers side trim panel in the back, or it could be the gate latch not recognizing the gate is closed.

Do you know how to install the glass? I inherited a 89.my brother took the glass out when he had it repainted

Ooph. I’ve never removed it completely. But I’m sure there’s a diagram somewhere. It would definitely be a bit of a challenge I’m sure.
