  • This video tells the story of one family's efforts to develop their property in the Mitchell grass country of the Winton district of N W Queensland.
Anne and Charlie Phillott were the winners of the statewide conservation competition run by the United Grazers' Association in their centenary year 1990.
Listen to their story of the long term development of the Keyline irrigation system and how the ponding of water behind diversion banks leads to improvement of the scalded soil and the disappearing Mitchell grass. See how wildlife conservation can be integrated into a rural production system.

Thanks go to Geoff Booth who first time instigated this composite of 16mm vision & sound reels into a completed and digitized film.
Geoffrey gifted Regrarians Ltd. Director Darren J. Doherty the ‘Australian Keyline Research & Educational Storehouse’ (AKRES) or the ‘Keyline Archive’ and we're gradually digitising this amazing resource and making it all publicly available.

If only more people had taken up these practices back then. Profit and sheer greed always get in the way....
