    Choosing these colours was harder than I thought! I had a mental picture of each group that stayed consistent with what I've written but when it came down to selection, I had to play with all the blues and how denim behaves as a textile. Great blue jeans, like gorgeous neutral tones, can add so much to a look and I looked for a wide range of options that could work in a few groups. If you're not seeing them the way I do, no worries, screens change colours, or try turning up the brightness on your monitor.

      Thanks for describing the colour 'thread' that runs through each season, eg gold in Autumn palettes, even though the fabrics are blue. That helps to distinguish them.

      Your videos have really helped me understand the concept better. I’m starting to understand that it’s not just ‘add a touch of yellow and it’s spring’, but it’s more about the amount of colour giving the impression of brightness. There was a blue blouse on another video that I would have put in summer, but you said it was spring, but summer could borrow it. That’s when the penny dropped. It looked as if it could be a cooler blue, yet it had no grey or muted quality to it, nor icy, and it was a blue with some brightness to it. That’s when I got it. The green videos have helped too.

    Christine, your ability to see the color differences in these jeans blows my mind. I tend to have a good idea of the jeans that work in my closet, but communicating why is a whole other animal. Jeans are so hard to shop for. The right size, the right fit around the waist and hips, the right shape leg, the right light to dark range, the right warmth/coolness, the right amount of pigment, the right color in the pigment. 🥵 I hate shopping for jeans 😂 But when I find that perfect pair! What a victorious moment!

      When I find the right jeans, I often buy 2 pair because I know how hard they are to find.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +5

      Agree, jeans are as hard as bathing suits or foundation. I also buy 2 of anything that's really good. I have little collections of work pants, casual pants, blush, eyeshadow, lipliner...Starting all over again can be exhausting. Keeping a couple of basic rules in mind helps me ignore most of what's out there so I have enough attention left for the good stuff. We only got so much attention (and time for dressing rooms) :) Jeans, think about general colour cast, amount of colour, and darkness. And never worry about perfect...those choices I discarded for Soft Autumn could have been quite ok, maybe even better for some tastes or preferences.

    Hi Christine, I am a true summer. I immediately say, “ugly, muted and greyed” and I can stay on track. I fought being a true summer for years. I so wanted to be a winter, but I am who I am and have accepted my coloring. Finally I am enjoying it. It is challenging, but when all of it is done, I look in the mirror and “Wow! This all looks like it goes together and belongs, and it makes me look better than I really am.” The same with the makeup. I find this fascinating. Grey colors, in my season, look fabulous with my grey hair now! So, I kind of grew into my season, kicking and screaming, and now I accept and even like it. You have helped me so much and I thank you. I could listen to your voice all day. ❤

      I'm so glad I've been able to help. Growing into our Season is something we may all experience to some degree, that moment of letting go of beliefs we're hanging on to for no particular reason, of realizing how unhelpful our hair colour has been for 20 years (this was me), of facing down choices that now have more reason to change than remain the same. Living and learning, and reaching a far better place, more beauty, no pressure :)

      If it helps, summers are luminous and claim some of the most fantasy colours there are. When I thought I was a summer, I wanted to be a winter, but when I found out I was a winter, I was suddenly upset I wasn’t a summer because I lost the fantasy pastels. I feel like summers get to look very “naturally” beautiful, kind of like autumns, because of the muted feel. That’s why y’all are associated with mermaids and like, faeries and such. And looking good in grey is hard okay. But summers just look all misty and cute and glowy-remember what I said about natural beauty?

    I’m a Dark Autumn and I always go for black jeans or jeans that are the darkest blue I can find with orange stitching. I always feel like my outfit MUST have something dark or else it doesn’t look right, so I just wear black jeans it’s my default but I should really try those other options that are more golden.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +3

      It's always good to have a default item as your standby, but if you love jeans in general, you might find dark olive, burgundy, or the bronze purple. The brightness of these colours in jeans might be perfect for DA. You could also branch into some of the darker neutrals, those dark golds and buckwheats. The palette already adjusts colours to be relatively dark and you don't necessarily have to take every item further than that. I know a DA who wears a soft black top and turmeric jeans, looks spectacular!

      @@ChristineScaman Thank you for the tips. It’s hard to use swatches when shopping online. Im personally very sensitive to darkness level so I know I’m safe when it’s as close to black as it can get. Actually darker colors that border DA work for me so warmness is less of an issue for me. @@ChristineScaman Do you think greenish yellow gold is suitable for True Winters? Every blog post about this color type advises them to wear silver, platinum or white gold metals but I don't recall them ever talking greenish gold for this season.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +2

      Good question. It seems reasonable that green gold could be better since the yellows in the palette have a green quality compared with other Seasons, whereas it's easy enough to imagine that warmer orange-leaning gold wouldn't be as appealing. Where I hesitate is that TW yellows, both in the palette and the skin tones, seem to me to have some red component, meaning they're not purely primary yellow. When I imagine green gold next to those TW yellows, that red would be missing and the green gold might look acidic or greener than it is. As ever, it would depend on the gold and the individual. Also, I can't recall a time when I've seen the combination on an actual person to have a solid opinion. I'll pay closer attention, I'd like to know the answer!

      I know what you mean. At some point, I realized I found jeans bulky and heavy, even the ones that fit fairly well. They felt like workwear and I'm a dress-down person who just feels better in athletic wear. Absolutely we find entire clothing categories that we give up on, whatever the general guidelines may suggest. Nothing works equally for every person, that's called normal :)

      I agree. I have on at the moment very dark navy but softness enough jcrew joggers that fit closely and do the jeans neatness but far far more flattering with a quince cashmere crew neck sweater. The Jean texture is not going to work for me I am recoiling. Velveteen jeans in dark browns are great. I know as dark autumn and I think with much towards dark winter given my silver shine on charcoal black hair when young and pale skin with golden under glow green eyes, very white teeth now with lost that pigment, always fading of anything looked terrible.

    Thanks, Christine for this helpful video. I am a dark autumn (who can pull off certain dark winter colors at times). Jeans have been a real struggle for me and after watching this, I can definitely see why. It continues to be an ongoing frustration. Because I can sometimes pull off winter colors (my hair, irises, eyebrows are all very very dark brown) I often pair olive tops with black jeans. It works for me and maybe others find the same to be true for them 🤷🏻‍♀️. The black jeans (especially high waisted ones) are also super flattering because I’ve been *blessed* with pretty full hips and just struggle with finding flattering bottoms that work with every top in the first place. I also like your idea about the golden stitching. That helps with the color balancing in many of my outfits. I also find that pairing with other elements of my outfit helps too (maybe if I wear a belt, the buckle is gold, I can choose rich brown boots, and jackets that are tan, brown, or just have those richer tones to help with balance).

    I’m so happy to have found your channel! I’ve been studying different color season theories for over a year now to help improve my wardrobe purchasing choices. (And to help others when I do custom sewing for.) I love your theory of color harmony and “equal energy” when choosing color combinations. As DW with “high contrast” (gray scale contrast), I was so happy to see the icy blue faded denim choice at the end of the Winter denim categories and your explanations (being far from the face, close to white)and your “blessing” for it being within bounds! 😅 I usually pair my new favorite faded wide leg jean with darker color tops to get the high contrast or a light top with a dark jacket over. Is this correct? I suddenly worried about losing harmony and disrupting energy levels? Maybe, I just overthought this?😂. I am binge watching all you previous videos to catch up on your great color advice and love when you do these “pick a color” and do an analysis for each season! Thank you so much for in depth explanations!💋💋

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +2

      I'm so glad that you're finding value in the videos. Pairing faded jeans with a darker top is exactly how I'd see that colour of denim for DW. Energy levels is a term that came from my imagination, looking for a way to communicate how it feels to look at colours together. It's so personal and non-specific that it can have us all overthinking, same as 'harmony' :)

    Can you do a video on elegant neutral looks? I am BW and it seems like everyone else has an elegant, understated, neutral choice. Summers and Autumns are muted enough in their pallettes to do this easily. My TSp looks like a million bucks in head to toe cream/gold neutrals. Winter neutrals are drama! Is there a way for us to give a similar effect or is it just not us?

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +2

      I'd be happy to do the video, a great suggestion since there have been many requests for a Winter Progressions video but I wasn't sure how to approach the subject. Neutrals could be great, as well as jewelry. When you say 'Winter neutrals are drama!' , do you mean that as a good thing or something you want to avoid for the 'understated' look?

    • @LiaAndrews
      @LiaAndrews Před rokem +2

      @@ChristineScaman i usually love drama. I wear black, white, silver, and charcoal a lot with a preference for white. I love bright colors, particulary reds and fuschias.
      This arose when I was hanging out with my Spring friend this weekend. She loves to wear color too but she also does this all neutral thing that looks fabulous on her. She looks understated and sophisticated. I don't feel I have that option.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +2

      I so agree about Sp and their neutrals. Vanilla cream, apricot beige, and coconut shell are so beautiful together, and these are their neutrals! I wouldn't see understated or sophisticated as out of Winter reach, but it may not have the lush or rich feeling of Sp and A. Keeping a step back from the extremes with light gray and charcoal, and adding a 'neutral' colour like navy or brown, works well. W may look polished but not dramatic in those combinations, especially if clothing styles are relaxed, in the same way that W's version of casual looks dressed up on everyone else. I'll keep the video in mind, thank you :)

      It would be great to watch such video from you, Christine.
      Meanwhile I opted for very light taupe/stone + BW azure/sapphire colour family + a bit of bright fuchsia/magenta. Also it can work with or without white colour.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před rokem +1

      @@RK-qs5dy I've been thinking about this excellent topic and how to best present it. The time limit for video, finding the images, I feel unsure where to begin. I have the impression that the question is next-level, asked by people who already know how to choose their colours and would like ideas for combining them. Perhaps a podcast could solve all this. I do agree with the comment that for Winter, it's white, gray, black. Not much nuance really, and gray with gray isn't as interesting, let alone exciting, as gray with a colour, even if it's navy or Oreo cookie brown.
      Your colour combination sound perfect. I loved your words 'nothing to do with stereotypical Winter landscapes', so insightful and important. Inspiration can come from a butterfly and still be Winter. I do find Nature's combinations the most evocative, feeling an affinity to male mallard duck and Canada goose colours for neutral combinations, I see them every day :) Building up a bank of inspiring images to draw from could be a great tip!

      I'm not familiar with other colour analysis system, but generally speaking, I think the terms are different names and mean the same thing. If you look below the surface at each system's grouping systems, analysis process, and the colour palettes, I'm sure there would be differences, but overall, they could be interchangeable titles. The more significant differences are between 4, 12, and more Season systems, since 4 Season systems may have the subgroups combined into the 4, and with higher numbers, each group is more subdivided. I use a 12-Season system called Sci\ART.
