      I find the Amethyst earrings in the deep autumn probably have more white quartz and I would see them in summer - although the depth of the Amethyst could work in it's most concentrated areas, beside a Garnet I find it cool. This is interesting to me ,as I never really considered this gem outside of winter ,it being February's stone.

      I agree, in the darkest tones, they could be fine with DA but overall, next to the face and cosmetics and hair colour, perhaps not a new item to add to a wardrobe but if a DA owned them, they'd find common ground. The same happens with burgundy fabric between SSu and DA, my conclusion being that if they're that hard to to tell apart, the item could work for both in the everyday world.

    Welcome back, Christine!
    I appreciate this video so much. My TCI Soft Summer fan has quite a spattering of purples. For most of the strips it’s easy to see “this one is warmer, this one is middle, and this one is on the cooler end of my spectrum.”
    The purples aren’t like that though, and it’s really hard for me to wrap my mind around them. Being on the warmer end of the SSu spectrum myself, I find myself borrowing from SA’s purples more comfortably than, say, TSu. True Summer tends to feel… I dunno… silly? … when I wear it? I’m not sure how else to describe it.
    I found this video helpful though. And I’d really love to see more comparisons of neighbor seasons (SA and SSu, LSu and LSp, etc) in these videos. I don’t know if that’s possible, though. They would end up being an hour long! Still, I’d watch them.
    Your videos are super helpful when I’m going shopping for specific colors. They keep me on track and from getting distracted.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 11 měsíci +6

      It's wonderful to be back, thank you. I'm settling into this new location and it's working out well.
      I agree with you, that SSu purple can be hard to imagine from the palettes, TSu can be strangely bright for SSu in certain colours, and SA seems the closest place to expand, and all of these are good decisions. You can see a variety of choices in the SA and SSu panels in this video, some very traditional, some more relaxed. Purple is quite challenging, surprisingly so for a cool neutral Summer.
      I hear you about hour-long videos, it's my concern with the colours left to look at (blue, green, red) that have so many choices. We'll probably break them down somehow. These Your Best Colour may be as close as I'd get to dedicated comparison videos since I'm conscious of not presenting colour analysis as rule-bound or so detailed that most people wouldn't take a closer look.

    The energy of True and Dark Winters purples is quite similar. They are calmer, nocturnal, quite mysterious, whereas Bright Winter purples are not. They look more carnival, discothèque. Maybe that's why Bright Winters aren't particularly flattered by dark purple by itself. I love dark purple, but I cannot say it's one of the top colours.

    I am a Bright Winter closer to True Winter and I love purple! Reds, purples, fuschias, and bright blues are easy and always get me compliments. I feel at home in purple and, like red, it is a forgiving color on me even if it isn't a perfect BW match. 12 Blueprints Imperfect eyeshadow looks natural on my skin and I even wear MAC Heroine with a bit of red gloss.
    Now green and yellow...I have watched your yellow video several times and still struggle and every attempt at green makes me look sick.
    I really appreciate how this color video went one level deeper, really mimicking the shopping experience and helping us as viewers develop our eye. Purple is a color with a lot of nuance. It can pull in many directions. This video was super helpful to understand. For example there are some "softer" periwinkle-ish purples that I wouldn't think would be Bright Winter.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 11 měsíci +2

      So interesting about purple and green. I imagine you could play with Imperfect, meaning mix it with lighter purples or turquoise. The matte aspect would make it flexible for making new colours. With green, if you've tried it, do you find TW green has the same effect on you, or the cooler BW greens? Or BW teal and turquoise, usually among my favourites for this group? Turquoise can be a surprise, it looks like Spring but the brightness is at Winter level. I agree that purple (and turquoise) can go in many directions, maybe because they're a mix of cool and warm-associated pigments and textile has a lot of influence on how these colours appear.

      Hello again, may I ask you a question? I am a True Spring and I am confused about transitioning to an autumn wardrobe because the warmer clothing I see in stores is predominantly black, charcoal grey, mustard, olive, deep reds and pumpkin colors. In other words, they are not my True Spring colors. How does someone dress seasonally appropriate (weather-wise) while also dressing within his or her own color family?

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 10 měsíci +1

      There's no time of year when stores offer wide colour choice for most people in their various Seasons, but I agree TSp is more challenging depending on where you live. I think the answer is planning. If you're in the US, you have access to stores that serve many different climates, either locally with good shipping policies or huge online retailers with many colours (Land's End and many others). Putting more shopping time and budget into times of year when your colours appear may help, or on holidays in warmer places. Joining online groups where people collaborate on shopping and know brands that use more bright colours. Google 'clothes in bright colours' and look under Shopping. When I have time, I add pins from current retail to my 12 Season Pinterest boards. Buying what's in stores is a good compromise, so one year, you may buy a lot of coral or whatever the colour of the year is. Learning your neutrals is good, the backbone of a wardrobe and colours that can appear randomly in stores everywhere. I appreciate the frustration though. Most educated consumers experience it with all sorts of products and buying does take more time. The good thing is that your colours won't change and your purchases last for as long as you want to keep them, which is a long time because everything looks so good.

    I believe purple in general looks more at home with Winters and Summers becaise it's a COOL color. On the other hand, Autumns and Springs can look great as well if thought out right. For example, Springs' warmth can contrast very well with purple as some can make the color look like grape candy or soda🎉, while some autumn purples can look sweet like berry jam.

    im a true winter, but im definitely more drawn towards some bright winter examples over some true winter examples (especially the muted jacket on the bottom, its too soft for me). the turtle neck top and the turtle neck dress would look great on me, since the bluer the color, the less olive my skin looks. also, the bluer the color, the brighter the color i can wear and its not overpowering. the more warmth in the color (more red in the purple) the more i need to watch out. purples and greens are definitely scary colors for me in general, as its very hard to know when how much warmth can my skin handle till its too much. that's why i stick to visibly bluer versions, since its safe area for me.

In the same way that I see blue (and navy) as more interesting than black, purple is more interesting than navy, possibly because it's not a dual-purpose neutral the way navy can be. Glad it was helpful! Being light and fairly saturated, white is often manageable for LSp. The question then becomes, which white? In an analysis, white is a challenging colour to decide Season since it has less colour pigment to work with. The advantage is that you may have flexibility with whites, and in time you might narrow them down to the great whites.

Maybe it was the light background, so the page looked like a white blur with beige blobs. My new approach is to add white and beige within a video about colour (like in the most recent video about Light Summer, would appreciate your thoughts about whether that worked). But I haven't tried medium and darker browns. Thank you for the suggestion!

      Your Light Summer Video worked really well. As a True Autumn I need help mostly around the orange browns There is an orange brown in the Dark Autumn palette and another surprisingly in the Bright Spring which are ever so close to the True Autumn one. It may also be that as True Autumn has a wider range of browns (and because brown itself is a mix of colours) it is hardest colour for me to discern. Also I find that as I have Medium brown hair and brown green eyes that if I wear a solid brown outfit it can be a bit blocky or drab. It needs some texture or a marled knit to give me contrast.

    I'm so happy to have found your channel and your book, which I know I'll be rereading many times. A friend and I got into Color Me Beautiful in the '80s and discovered that we had a knack for typing people, which we did in informal groups. When color analysis seemed to fall by the wayside later on, being considered "an '80s thing," I was disappointed because I felt that kind of knowledge shouldn't be lost. When I first heard about 12 seasons I felt kind of resistant to it (I mean, TWELVE? LOL), but I now see how the concept of 12 completes the picture of the full range of human coloring and is so much more inclusive. I've been watching your videos as instructional tools, pausing to gauge my own impressions of the pictures and diagrams before listening to yours, and I'm thrilled to find I agree with you a good 95% of the time. Yes, we can be quite focussed on clothing, which makes sense when we begin transforming our wardrobe, but those small items are fun to wear and look at. Teaberry was a new colour for me, I had to look it up, gorgeous coral. You never know where it will appear. Like a quest!
      When you said marshmallow, edges glowing and just starting to burn, so brilliant. I could feel the colour! I'll be thinking of that all day, thank you :)

      Why thank you :) It's amazing once the purples are separated, ay? Reminds me of a swarm of colours in the middle of a wagon wheel, and when the wheel spins, they all separate into 12 little worlds (reading Leigh Bardugo, as you can tell). Thanks also about the silver hair, I especially love the things it's taken me 60 years to figure out, meaning the right colour highlights at last. I'm in a new location with better light and the silver shows up better. Wouldn't mind a few artistic stripes but maybe they're in the future.

      @ChristineScaman  Před 7 měsíci

      I'd be happy to make a video about this topic, it's a request many people have. Making these videos, I've learned that they always help me clarify my thinking about the subject.
      My perspective on olive skin tones in Winter people (I'm thinking Culls is Culpo) is that they're the same in how they wear their Season in apparel as other members of their particular Winter Season, like in the People of Colour video. Blush and lip colour may vary, with red looking more natural and healthy than fuchsia, but these are often individual choices for all types of surface skin pigmentation within any Season.
      Maybe you could help me with specific questions? It would help me get started and have a place to focus, rather than making a video that could sound like it's about any Winter person in that type of Winter, which I can't always distinguish from images. If you were speaking on behalf of people with olive skin tones, what would their questions or colour situations be, different from the overall approach to Winter?

    I'm back to this video again, Christine 😂 Are you tired of me yet? My birthday is next month, and I always go on an overnight shopping trip with some girl friends for my birthday. So in preparation, I'm thinking about my closet and what I'd like to add to it. I really hope there are more purple options out there this year.
    The first time I ever bought a purple shirt, it was probably a TSu purple. It made me feel like I was wearing candy. The second time I bought a purple shirt, it was more LSu. I thought I had done well that time because the warm-to-cool levels were right, and it was clearly softer than other purples I had seen in the stores. But when I got it home and tried to put it with other pieces in my wardrobe, it was very obviously too bright for my SSu wardrobe. *sigh* Maybe there just isn't that much out there in stores? I can easily find my pinkish-purple mauves. But my bluer purples seem very difficult to find in stores.

    Прекрасно видео! Сравнението с близките сезони много ми хареса - изключително полезно е човек да хваща прехода от единия към другия сезон, когато пазарува. Да споделя историята си с един странен часовник, който си поръчах след дълго оглеждане в сайта. По всичко личеше, че цветовете на циферблата и каишката попадат към палитрата на Soft Summer. Но явно снимките са били обработени, защото пристигна часовник с доста тъмен лилав циферблат, все пак сивеещ, и светлолилава каишка като за Light Summer. Реших все пак да му дам шанс, защото беше и подарък, и се оказа много интересно допълнение към гардероба ми. Добавен към тоалетите ми с тази каишка винаги става център на внимание и е като единична лютива подправка, която придава живот на ястието! Може би прескачането от време на време в съседните сезони не е никак лошо, за да се получи този wow ефект, който прави един тоалет запомнящ се. Досега съм получава все комплименти за този часовник 😊

      From Google Translate: Wonderful video! I really liked the comparison with the nearby seasons - it is extremely useful for a person to catch the transition from one season when he is shopping. To share my story with a strange watch that I ordered after a long look at the site. It seemed that the colors of the dial and the strap fall to the palette of Soft Summer. But apparently the photos were processed because a clock with a rather dark purple dial arrived, after all, a gray, and light -purple strap like Light Summer. However, I decided to give him a chance because it was a gift, and it turned out to be a very interesting addition to my wardrobe. Added to my outfits with this strap it always becomes the center of attention and is like a single hot spice that gives life to the dish! Maybe jumping from time to time in the neighboring seasons is not bad to get this WOW effect that makes a toilet memorable. I have been receiving all compliments for this clock so far.
      Glad you enjoyed the video! I agree, sometimes an accent with a connection to the rest of the outfit or person tells an interesting story that people enjoy, like a conversation piece, a fun digression.

    Yay!!! You’re back!! Okay, what you just said about a dark autumn with very fair skin, mossy green eyes, & silver hair…yes, agreed. Also, so many people use only the “dark hair, medium dark skin, dark eyes” example of dark autumn. So, in your opinion could someone with super fair skin & dark blonde/light brown hair be a dark autumn?

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 11 měsíci +1

      And happy to be back, thank you :) I try not to describe Season using skin surface colour, or hair and eye colours, though I appreciate that this is the information you have at the moment. With words, everyone pictures something different. Our Season is 100% about how we react to colour, rather than how we look on the surface, which I find more useful after knowing the Season for putting together great looks and a personalized closet.
      The dark-medium-dark combination you describe could apply to someone in 6, maybe 8, Seasons. So very light skin tones and light brown hair, doesn't sound likely or unlikely for DA. I'd go with possible, but not 'average' given that average doesn't exist...or maybe I could say, each Season might have 3 to 5 average appearances. Such a vague response, but it's the truest one I know.

      @ChristineScaman  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes! Right there with you! Excellent you picked those out. They seemed close at first, a bit too red but the white cord (likely True Winter) was a little more than the purple so maybe the shorts were BSp. I included them so folks could see that of all the purples at the store, these would be quite ok and viewers would have this side-by-side visual of the better phone case. Possibly I should have put a ? beside the shorts. We appreciate Best so much more when we understand Almost and some viewers have eagle eyes for colour and palettes, but I never want people new to this concept to feel it's too fussy or complicated. There's room for everyone at this table; you could give a seminar at the Annual Meeting :)

    • @hirsch4155
      @hirsch4155 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@ChristineScaman Well I found them a lot less saturated (on my screen at least) than the other items in the spring picks, it stood out on my screen almost as a more muted colour. I don’t really count the drawstring because it’s incidental to the look, in my opinion, though I guess it can be seen as adding contrast like for the winters or BSp. My point is is that I think BSp deserves more than just an incidental touch.
      And at least for me I think Springs ideally should never compromise on saturation, easier said than done of course. My dad is, bright spring, and it’s amazing the difference for him when saturation is present and the crispest whites, and not the run of the mill box store cotton white t’s. My parents go to Bali and the silk shirts acquired suit him great because they hold white and colours very well and durable. Soft is anethema, but of course mens clothes tend to be soft a lot of times , we gotta get the winters and springs in our life out of those muted tones!
      But 😮normal equals muted these days:(
      I see colour analysis as a collective endeavour as much as individual lol!
      The convention awaits :D
      But seriously, I would go to one 😂

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 11 měsíci

      So interesting, thank you for explaining, I see what you mean. I thought of the bathing suit as too red rather than too saturated for the group, and the drawstring was my TW reference. Agreed about Sp needing that brightness, even in Light Summer, the person looks so good, but I also find they need to stay in their Season. BSp is too much on TSp, the cool side looks Winter-y and the warm side looks overheated, and likewise LSp is best in their saturation (although it can be so hard to find in stores that wearing TSp in matte or woven textiles can be quite ok). Also agree that the Springs are at their best in their brightness colours. Now I'm wondering if every Season is that way but no, DW in their navy, TA in their olive, TW in surgical steel gray, quite awesome. When you mentioned your Dad's shirts from Bali, wow, I could really picture it!

      Still stay with the same palette. Many people choose the lighter or brighter colours from their palette, or fabrics that brighten colour, or wear more colours at once, but our pigments remain the same when the time of year changes so our Season palette does as well.

      The best way to find information about specific items is to follow the link for the image in the Desc. box. When it opens in URStyle, scroll down a bit to find Used In Set, which will take you to the store website with more product information. I looked for the two nail colours in the True Spring panel (though I'm not sure which Season you had in mind) and the items are not available any longer, at least on those websites (Ulta's link didn't open).
      Using nail polish as a reference guide is a brilliant idea. It may be best to test it (hard with this product, I appreciate), because I don't see any of these colours in person and most are probably not as you might expect from the pictures. The pictures can help you know what to look for but in terms of shopping reference, a bracelet or scarf may be easier to test before purchasing.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 8 měsíci

      I've had a few clients with similar colouring to yours who have been Soft Summers. How we wear the colours of our Season doesn't change depending on skin tone, same as the analysis process is the same, whatever the depth of surface pigmentation.
      For example, Oprah, Mrs. Obama, and me may be the same Season and we wear the Season the same way. The only two differences that come to mind in this example are that they may wear slightly darker lipsticks, but lipstick colour is decided one woman at a time, there is no best or average lipstick within any Season. The second difference would be that if I had silver hair and wore very light colour, there might not be enough contrast between my hair, skin colour and the clothing, and I would add a darker area. People with naturally darker surface skin pigmentation have enough natural contrast that the adjustment might not be necessary.
      In any Season, there may be adjustments, but these depend more on each individuals pigmentation rather than related to surface skin tone. In your case, as I think about what the differences might be or have been with my SSu clients, nothing comes to mind. There are cultural differences in how people want to look or may wear their colours, but if you were to read the e-chapter about SSu, it would apply equally to you as a person in your Season with lighter surface skin tone.
      Making videos something I enjoy and would do more of, but finding pictures of people in any Season wearing harmonious and non-harmonious colours is hard to do. Great question, thank you for asking :)

      Thanks!

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 8 měsíci

      OK, thank you! The celebrity part may be challenging, I don't know any I'm fairly sure are BSp, and almost guaranteed their hair is dyed. The problem with chemical colour is that in pictures, you can't tie it out of the way and you wind up analyzing the apparel to the dye. Even harder to talk about the person instead of the dye when the hair colour is a version of yellow, which it most often is. I couldn't see how this helped people so I started looking at men. So a BSp male celebrity...who would be an example? David Beckham may be in the neighbourhood. No others come to mind.
      Jewelry could be done.
      Hair dye, that's decided one person at a time, there's no colour, average, or menu that works for everyone in a Season. It depends on their natural base hair colours and natural pigmentation, like eye and eyebrow colours and skin tones.
      LBD, it can work because of the W influence, as you say. Helps a lot when the neckline is low, the fabric has a little shine, and the accessories are colourful. That said, if I had $1000 and could only buy one dress, I'd never choose all black on BSp. Little areas of black can be useful, same as little areas of white, but there are more flattering choices. I'll think more about a BSp video, I'm sure there's something we could do.

    • @ChristineScaman
      @ChristineScaman  Před 10 měsíci

      When we hear names of colours, it's likely that we all visualize slightly different colours but they serve the general idea, especially when they come with a comparison colour name, like lime and olive. White is challenging because there's so little pigment that our imagination has less information to draw from. I find paint colour charts helpful, like charts of 'Benjamin Moore best whites for 2021", at least it's some kind of standard we can all access. White Dove seems to be off-white with a grayed yellow green pull, White Heron seems similar with less pigment and possibly better for Summer. Magnolia is a clearer, creamy white that doesn't seem soft enough for Summer, maybe Light Summer but even there, it seems more clear than pastel, although it does appear to have coolness. I'm not sure with that one, I'd wonder about one of the Bright Seasons?

In a lot of paint stores now however,I felt like the pink sat between the orange and the brown, the purple was off by itself and didn't go as far as purple,grey pinks. As a child,some of my Laurentian colored pencil names still stick with me , and to this day I still think of bright yellow green as "french green," which helps me distinguish it from 'waterier,'juicier' lime green .
