This Is Why Twitter Will Shutdown In The Next 60 Days | Elon Musk Is Out!

SdĂlet
VloĆŸit
  • čas pƙidĂĄn 19. 11. 2022
  • Elon Musk is creating an environment where Twitter will fail in the next 60 days if he doesn't fix his behavior immediately. Altering firing 14 employees over Twitter, he demanded that employees work long hours or leave the company with 3 months of severance. 1,200 employees chose to take the severance, this is after massive layoffs just weeks ago.
    At this point there aren't many people left that can keep Twitter running. There is a real possibility that Twitter will experience outages which could result users leaving for competing services. While we won't get into Twitter's potential for going bankrupt, these scenarios will make it much harder for Elon Musk to increase the companies revenue.

    Companies are bought not for their infrastructure, but for the employees that created and maintain the infrastructure. Elon has eliminated much of the value of Twitter by eliminating the employees. Now the only reason to buy Twitter is to get the name, and you could probably do that at a discount after it goes bankrupt and all assets are liquidated. The code you probably want to redesign from scratch anyway because the technology has moved on from when it was first written.

    As clickbait-y as the title sounds, I have been saying the same thing and wanted to hear your take. I'm glad I did, you came at it from a very level headed and logical perspective, and one that I think most of us experienced software engineers should be able to agree with. From a technical perspective, he's done major damage to the site by firing so many people, including entire mission-critical teams. But he is most screwed from the financial perspective, considering the loans now on Twitter's books will accrue $1billion / year in interest alone, and Twitter was losing money even BEFORE Musk bought it and plopped billions in debt onto the balance sheet. Now that he's fired like 75 - 80% of the staff AND lost most of Twitter's advertising partners, I don't see how they can possibly recover. No decent, professional engineers would take a job there right now unless he pays them insane money, which runs counter to his objective of cutting costs

    • @CodyEngelCodes
      @CodyEngelCodes  Pƙed rokem

      Happy you feel similarly to me, and it's also great when a clickbait-y title just comes to you because it is legitimately based in reality.
      I didn't get to talk about the balance sheet of Twitter (honestly probably not necessary for a SWE channel) but also agree that the debt he put onto Twitter is going to be very difficult to recover from. Although to my surprise Twitter brought in $5 billion last year although they lost $221 million so coming up with an extra billion dollars just for the interest payments might be tough.
      Actually I'm wondering if Elon Musk is playing a game of 5D Chess with us. He sees the damage that Twitter was doing with certain communities and realized it was going to be nearly impossible to moderate. So he bought the company and is intentionally destroying it to prevent extremists from organizing đŸ€”
      Of course I don't think Elon Musk is that strategic, he's just a terrible manager that thought he could take over Twitter and run it like a car or space company.

    • @rdean150
      @rdean150 Pƙed rokem

      @@CodyEngelCodes LOL that's a fascinating theory. I agree though that he's probably not that strategic, nor that benevolent. He very much seems like a thin-skinned troll who experiences recurring bouts of acute smarm. His bone-headed Twitter Blue faceplant demonstrates this pretty hilariously.
      At this point he looks less like a Tony Stark or Steve Jobs, and more like an inflatable tube man, flailing desperately in the wind and hoping he can latch onto something that will stop the bleeding out of his net worth.
      I suspect he's probably regularly gauging how soon he can file for Chapter 11 (or Chapter 7) without triggering some sort of additional regulatory or reputational blowback.

    Yeah. I think the answer to that question is quite simple. You can disagree with his decisions but saying the company is gonna shut in 60 days or acting like he's dumb & you're here to educate him about it ? Lmaoo. I can guarantee you that much, it's never gonna shut. The traffic on twitter has increased after the takeover & despite Elon firing so many employees I don't see any visible downgrade in the app's performance & services. Also, Musk has been clear since day 1, one of the key reasons why he acquired twitter was cuz he doesn't like the left leaning bias among the employees & top management at Twitter & how they censor people based on their political ideologies. How do you think he's gonna bring about a change in work culture at Twitter without firing the employees that are part of the problem? He's just gonna hire new people that suit his criteria. Afterall it's his company, he has a vision for it & if he thinks he can't attain that vision with the current staff, ofc he's gonna remove entire posts, fire long term employees & move things around. nonense, twitter would run at aprox below 100 people. the squareroot of employees do 50% of the work.
    as for random harddrive filsl up shows again that programmer have no clue about it. this is not a thing that would or could happen anymore on a hyperscaler.
    everything is virtualized these days. one person can manage 1000ƛ of servers, can shift entire datacenters with a mouseclick.
    something like this could happen on traditional VM style systems. not on containerized microservices based ony highly virtualized plattform...
    but yea guess someone is desperate for clicks without any competence

    I say let's make an official bet, with a contract signed by both parties.
    If it closes i'll send you $10K USD and if you lose, you send the money my way.
    Put your money where your mouth is, that would give you tons of credibility and surely more views :)
