This broke my heart worse than the 1996 series. It would be 22 years before the Braves ended an 8 game losing streak in World Series play.
I'm a Mets fan I always wanted to ask a Braves fan, What was it like losing in 91 and 92 and in the playoffs in 93 as opposed to losing in the years after you won it all in 95?
@@jimmym2486 Losing two World Series hurt when we were on the doorstep of a title. It's a deflating feeling similar to losing the Super Bowl. In 1993 we were just as dangerous but was undone by the upstart Philadelphia Phillies, who won the NLCS 4-1 (won all 3 games at Veterans Stadium). We finally got our title in 1995 but lost it to the Yankees, who beat us again in 1999. Losing the World Series is the second worst to losing the Super Bowl. I hope that explains it for you. Best of luck to your Mets.
@@kenosultan3240 Yes Thank You.
The 90s were the last complete decade without social media. Also it was the last decade to enjoy an analog lifestyle. Also Jim Leyritz would hit the last home run of the 90s. It was good to see Leyritz win another World Series title the year after he was on the losing side of the ledger. 25 World Series championships for the Yankees would be the greatest team of the 20th century. If not for the 1994 strike, the Yankees possibly would have 28. Meaning winning 6 straight titles breaking the record of 5 straight titles from 1949-1953. It was also good to see Roger Clemens win his elusive championship.
AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ were early forms of social media.
This game officially sealed the Yankees as the true Team of the 90s, as well as the greatest baseball franchise of the century.
What’s amazing is that the first time the Yankees and Braves met in the World Series in 1996, Atlanta was the heavy favorite with that trio of stellar pitchers in Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine. This time around, they came in with that same trio and an equally good team…and they had NO chance against the Yankees. This Yankees team was even deeper and more talented. Jeter had become a full fledged star. Mariano Rivera had become the best closer in the game. Bernie Williams was still one of the game’s best. Scott Broscius had become a major player. They had El Duque. Cone was still solid. Pettitte had blossomed into a great pitcher. And they had ROGER CLEMENS. Top to bottom, that 1999 Yankees team was just dominant.
Not true in the slightest, that they “didn’t have a chance against the Yankees”-this was an evenly matched series that should have gone 7. The Braves regular season record was better by 5 games, and they had even played the Yankees in interleague play and won 2 of 3. Glavine had outpitched Clemens, Hernandez and Maddux had both pitched poorly, the Braves actually roughed up Rivera for a four-run blown save in one of the games, and the game the Yankees won in the regular season was against a Braves starter who wouldn’t be a factor in the World Series. The Yankees definitely had an offensive edge and obviously the best closer in baseball, (though again, Rivera did blow a save against the Braves that July), but significantly, the Braves’ starters had the edge, (all four starting matchups in this series favored the Braves starters by ERA, and that was true even WITH Maddux and Glavine both having, for them, off-years), as did their middle relief outside of the closers. The highest ERA among the Braves’ non-closer middle relief core was lower than the lowest of the Yankees’ parallel relievers. The Braves were two better managerial decisions on bullpen use away from being UP 2-1 after three games. They had three solid middle relievers who could easily have been trusted to hold 8th inning leads. Cox stayed with his starters too long in Games 1 and 3-by not using his bullpen properly and allowing clearly tiring starters to blow 8th inning leads after being masterful for 7, he turned what should have been a 7-game classic into a sweep.
That’s the day I was born!
1996-2001 Yankees - Greatest Team Ever....Will never be equaled
I HATE the Yankees but greatest team ever? I am going to assume that in Yankee history, You are calling that the greatest Yankee team ever. How about the team that won 5 straight series from 49-53 or the 36-39 that won 4 in a row. As for short term dynasties well you have to go to another sport and look at the Islanders who won 4 straight Cups from 80-83 and won an incredible 19 straight playoff series before they ran out of gas in the 84 finals in their quesr for 5 straight Cups
Yankees should of won in 2001.
@user-td1me4tv3u shoulda coulda woulda 😭
@@user-td1me4tv3uShould have
@@jimmym2486The 49-53 Yankees didn’t have to deal with free agency and multiple rounds in the postseason. Did you intentionally leave those facts out or just too stupid to know anything?

And the last World Series of the 20th century
Correction: A century is 100 years, not 99. This was not the last World Series because it was not the last year. Can you get that?!
1900-1999 is 100 years
@@bravesatlfan No,No, you are saying there was a year zero and there is not
There never was a year zero. Every century has started in a year one. Ergo, 1901 had to be the first year of the 20th century. This is not mere pedantry but a fact that most people refuse to acknowledge.
If there is no year zero. Can you explain why every 10 years there IS a year zero? :)
Does anyone know of the score used for the intro?
I was at this game
Me Too!!!!....Upper Deck 1st Base area....I was also at the 1977 WS final game....What a difference at the end.....I was celebrating on the field for at least 30 min in '77....Times had changed.
When there was no smartphones on people's hands, they had signs instead.
Yankees vs. Braves in 2022 World Series? it could happen.
and just like in 1999, Braves will have the home field advantage if they were to meet in the world series. Yankees home games 3,4,5.
Then the Astros and Phillies had other plans
I lived in NYC back then....One hour from Atlanta now....Still will root for the Yanks.
Did NBC leave the MLB after this?
They did the 2000 Alcs yanks Seattle
@@cforgione100 It was a shame that NBC lost baseball again after 2000. They are so much better than FOX
@@jimmym2486 yeah I agree nbc was great
@@jimmym2486absolutely
NBC had the ALCS in 2000
Fox had the NLCS in 2000
After the Yankees won the AL Pennant Fox had the World Series
It's hilarious and ironic that the Braves 1995 World Series rings have "TEAM OF THE 90s" on them but the Yankees smoked them twice in the same decade to win championships. Who's your daddy? 😆😆😆
